Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

In after Baud. Damn.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

Roe is not about choice. It is about freedom.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

The unpunished coup was a training exercise.

People are complicated. Love is not.

Our messy unity will be our strength.

When you’re in more danger from the IDF than from Russian shelling, that’s really bad.

Cancel the cowardly Times and Post and set up an equivalent monthly donation to ProPublica.

You passed on an opportunity to be offended? What are you even doing here?

This fight is for everything.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

They punch you in the face and then start crying because their fist hurts.

Republicans cannot even be trusted with their own money.

Not rolling over. fuck you, make me.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

Bad people in a position to do bad things will do bad things because they are bad people. End of story.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

You know it’s bad when the Project 2025 people have to create training videos on “How To Be Normal”.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

We know you aren’t a Democrat but since you seem confused let me help you.

Honestly…I almost wanted to cry. Poor buddy was clearly terrified, the crowd is yelling and scaring it even more, all these people are looming over it. I saw that it eventually made it out into the stands and probably was able to escape that way, but it’s probably traumatized :(

Okay, I’ll stir the pot. Here’s an interesting thread on how anti-vax groups on Facebook are speaking on code to fly under the radar.

Quick thread: I don’t think most people know what antivaxx posts on Facebook really look like.

    That’s good. Why would you?

But I think people assume it’s Suzy Turmeric plaintively yelling at you about the microchip, and it’s not.

It looks like this. Like code. Or gibberish.

Not an expert, but Yankee Stadium is a big facility in the middle of a heavily urbanized area, and it stands empty most of the time.   I’d assume it’s home to a long-established feral cat colony.   Tonight’s ‘tv star’ made the mistake of wandering out into public view at the wrong time… but if you watch the video, he approaches the dugout door twice (and the numbnut ‘guarding’ it doesn’t have the sense to let him back in).  This is a cat who knows his way around his environment.  I’m sure Stripy Dude was terrified, but I suspect he’s seen worse!

@West of the Rockies: Service uniform of the boogaloo boys. No idea why, but I’m sure there’s a convoluted story, maybe in this wikipedia entry.

The boogaloo movement, whose adherents are often referred to as boogaloo boys or boogaloo bois,[3] is a loosely organized far-right anti-government extremist movement in the United States.[4][5][6][7][8][9] It has also been described as a militia.[10][11][12] Adherents say they are preparing for, or seek to incite, a second American Civil War or second American Revolution which they call “the boogaloo”.[13][14]

Ya goin’ to hell, buddy, no matter how many Suburbans you drive.

The pastor of a Rocklin megachurch who has defied California’s COVID-19 restrictions urged his followers during a Sunday sermon to oust Gov. Gavin Newsom in the recall election, testing IRS regulations that restrict political campaigning inside churches.

During an impassioned sermon, Destiny Christian Church Pastor Greg Fairrington asked his congregants to vote “yes” on removing the governor from office in six weeks.

“You afraid of Gavin Newsom? My God, do your job as Christians on Sept. 14, and vote ‘yes’ on recalling an immoral governor,” Fairrington said while pointing to a screen behind him that delivered the same message.

In neon red letters and against a yellow backdrop, the screen read, “VOTE YES ON RECALL SEPT. 14.”

“Not paid for by any candidate or committee,” a second, smaller line stated.

A lot of venues like stadiums and amusement parks keep feral cats around to help keep rodents under control.  They try to keep the cats from getting out when customers are around, but they are somewhere between tolerated and encouraged.  I was a bit surprised this cat didn’t have its ear tipped.  In any case, nothing terrible is going to happen to the cat.

What Have The Romans Ever Done for Us?

@trollhattan: YouTube TV let’s you rewind live TV IF you’ve added it to your DVR library which means it’s being recorded. And they give you unlimited space for your DVR library. Takes a little pre-planning to add every sports event you want to watch to your library so not as convenient as a cable DVR.

@frosty: Those utter dimwits are fucking us over and killing kids under 12. I get more pissed off by the day.

Go read that quote again – they’ve fucked their own kids over with their woo and lying to themselves it wasn’t them with anti vac stuff.

When I read that right-wing nuts have appropriated Aloha/Hawaiian shirts, I wonder how Weird Al is taking this. He has a huge collection of the shirts and extremely good politics. And he’s extremely strategic (how else could someone make a mega-career out of paradox songs?).

Off the google though so don’t know what sort of luck I’ll have.

@Steeplejack: Nice.  I never met Mr. Hackman, but I did stand next to him–not in a creepy way–for a couple minutes once. It was cool and kind of surreal.

The cat video was frustrating to watch not just because the cat was clearly getting pretty anxious (even though it’s likely that cat was already familiar with the stadium and the crowds, no cat enjoys having to flee vigorously over and over again), but because as soon as it got to the edge of the field anyone could easily see it just wanted to leave the field… and yet those guys kept chasing it around and around until someone finally just opened the fucking door to let the cat go out, which it did.

I have youtubetv and I love it. Unlimited storage. And portable – I can use it at home on my flatscreen and desktop and on the road using my phone or tablet.
