For your viewing pleasure:
At about 2:30 seconds you get to hear me handle a live grenade after Watergirl calls on me out of the blue to make remarks AFTER ordering me to mute myself.
On a personal note, I have felt crappy for three days now, with a stuffed up head and coughing up ghastly things, and out of an abundance of caution I have scheduled a covid test. In the past ten days I have been to the grocery store fully masked once, and had my waitress Lori (masked) hand a bag of Italian though my car window that I had ordered from my Italian place, but you never know.
I don’t feel like I am dying or have it, but I do feel shitty, and longtime readers will know that I am a touch of a hypochondriac. I’m fine with physical injuries- I could have a limb severed, apply a tourniquet, and drive myself to the hospital and think nothing of it, but when it comes to colds I always turn into Fred Sanford coming to see Elizabeth.

Awesome. Will watch later.

Shout out to YouTube for designated Cole’s channel to being a YouTube Kids channel.
Steeplejack
It’s going into the last segment now (with Joyce Vance), but Ari Melber has had a really intense episode tonight, airing it out with Peter Navarro, Boris Epshteyn and Dustin Stockton about the “Green Bay Sweep” and the events of January 6 (2021). Pretty wild, but Melber handled it well.
Will be interesting to see what Vance says. She’s up now.
Steeplejack
@Steeplejack:
Spoiler: Joyce Vance quoted My Cousin Vinny. “Everything that guy said is B.S.”
zhena gogolia
I hope you don’t have it. I’m pretty sure you don’t.
ETA: Everyone who hasn’t heard Adam Schiff should tune in. He was fantastic.
Comrade Colette
I hope it’s just a cold, although Monsieur Colette’s recent mild cold symptoms came with a positive Covid test. Yeah, I know that’s the last thing you want to hear. Thank G-d (and science!) for vaccines and boosters. Good luck and feel better soon
ETA: thanks for the Schiff link – looking forward to watching later.
debbie
That desk back there is pretty clean. I hate tidy desks.
Another Scott
Nice.
Tasteful product placement, also too.
Thanks.
[eta:] Good luck with the test, and get better!
Cheers,
Scott.

Cole, hope it’s just a Man Cold.

I’ll watch if there’s footage of Cole doing something where there’s humor to be had at his own expense. :P

@debbie:
When I was a retail manager, my direct reports gave me a sign that said, “A messy desk is a sign of genius.” Based on that, I must have had an I.Q. of 4,000.
zhena gogolia
Ack, you used gallery view at the beginning so some of us are visible. ?
debbie
Rudy’s been sentenced to a year in prison. Speedy justice!

Heh. I always cleaned mine up at the end of the day so the next day wouldn’t start in a state of chaos.

Got a text from Tim today, our “big pump” came back in today, ( 5,000 gpm), no longer running. 2 months running out in the Sumas flood station, being refueled while it ran, 24/7.
$15k rental written off as a donation. Corporate will just have to suck it up.
Tomorrow, I’ll get to take a look at it, hopefully get it running again and send it back out next week.
debbie
Cacophonous indeed!

@debbie: I never cleaned mine until I retired.

First question on the on-line form you have to fill out before your interview for a green card: please provide your travel history for the last 15 years, including the source of funding for the travel. 15 years!
Betty Cracker
In other words, you are a MAN. ? Feel better, friend, and let me know if there’s anything I can do, including driving north with a vat of garlic chicken soup and a wheel of Granny’s horrid fruitcake.
japa21
@Betty Cracker: Just threatening him with that will have him up and about in no time.
Gin & Tonic
@Baud: A year? I was sure Fruman would sing like a canary and get off with probation.
evap
@Gin & Tonic: When I went to work for the feds (temporary gig — two years at the National Science Foundation), I had to provide a travel history like that. It took me a while to figure out all of the trips! There was also a human who interviewed me and for each foreign trip had to ask me series of questions including who I interacted with on the trip. Since my spousal unit is Irish and we go to Ireland at least once a year, and take other foreign trips frequently, it took a while. What a pain!

” . . . I am a touch of a hypochondriac”
Just a touch mind you, nothing anyone would causually notice. Yeah, just a touch.

@Gin & Tonic:
How did the interview go?
Omnes Omnibus
@Betty Cracker: Horrid fruitcake? I am confused.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
Listening to the post-impeachment (Impeachment 1) portion of Schiff’s book, and trump’s post-acquittal (moral) crime spree: driving Alexander Vindman out of the army, and his brother out of gov’t service; firing Robert Maguire; firing an Inspector General (I forget which department); ordering (if he had to order) Barr to meddle in Roger Stone’s sentencing… just that fairly brief bill of particulars has me gobsmacked all over again. I feel like the frog remembering the boiling water. And the worst is yet to come. Again.
MomSense
Hoping for a negative test, Cole. I’ve tested so many times lately. Between the close contacts at work and with my kids I was sure I had it. One day I had a headache and was convinced it was COVID. Then I remembered that I hadn’t been drinking water and was probably dehydrated.
I’m going to watch the Schiff video. I hate seeing myself on video and hearing my voice but I really want to hear Schiff again. He is an extraordinary person and I’m grateful he is willing to be a leader now. He is the right person at the right time.
If you haven’t had a chance to give his book some love and write a glowing review, please find some time to do so this weekend.
MomSense
@Jim, Foolish Literalist:
INORITE! In our zoom with AS he talked about Barr’s dishonest and unethical “summary” of the Mueller report. It brought back the trauma of that day. I remember on this blog how furious and distraught we were. I almost wanted to tell him he should read the comments from that day because damn I think he would have felt at home with us.

Because it’s redundant?

@Baud: It didn’t. This was a warm-up, just reviewing necessary documents, please come back Monday for the interview. And enjoy your weekend in beautiful Ciudad Juarez.

@Steeplejack: No, fruitcake is good. Fight me.

LOL. I admit there’s probably good fruitcake out there, but in my experience it’s one of those things you have to carefully seek out. It’s not a given.

Faithful Lurker
@MomSense: I make an English fruitcake, with only dried fruit, no candied stuff, and lots of nuts and soaked in brandy. It’s a rich dark cake with lots of fruit and nuts, what’s not to like.
Steeplejack
@Faithful Lurker:
“No candied stuff.” I think you’re onto something there.
Faithful Lurker
@Steeplejack: Damn right.
MomSense
@Faithful Lurker:
Yes! That’s what I like.
sab
@MomSense: I am too.
Dan B
@Steeplejack: The candied Citron was just awful. I’ve made Mincemeat from scratch – yum! And figgy pudding with shredded potatoes, carrots, currants, lots of spices, then brandy and hard sauce.
Gravenstone
@Omnes Omnibus: What I want to know is, who was supposed to be the pulling guard on their team? Sydney Powell?
Steeplejack
@Dan B:
Do you have a good recipe for mincemeat? I looked casually now and then but haven’t seen one that really grabbed me.
schrodingers_cat
@Baud: Believe it not the employment based Green Card application is even more onerous. The application for the intent to file for the permanent residency was the size of a thesis.
When I went for my citizenship interview, the interviewer had my file which was like a doorstop (all my immigration petitions)

Faithful Lurker
Well, mine has dried figs, apricots, apples, currants, 2 kinds of raisins, plums, cherries, pecans, walnuts, hazelnuts and almonds. There is actually little room for cake. You soak the dried fruit in a pint or so of brandy overnight or as long as you like before making the cake. The recipe is Paula Peck’s, The Art of Fine Baking. It’s wrapped in cheesecloth soaked in brandy and the longer it sits the better it gets. This is making me hungry, it’s only 6 here. Time for dinner.
edited for spelling. I had smoked in brandy, which might not be a bad idea.

I had to go back and see what you were responding to! :-)
WaterGirl
@WereBear: There are no names showing in the gallery, though, right? So no one really knows who any of you are except for the peeps who were there.
I did ask and receive permission from the 3 questioners before we put up the video.
WaterGirl
I would like to add a bit to what John said up top.
The visit with Adam Schiff really was wonderful and inspiring. Almost Retired (Curt) did a masterful job of facilitating the conversation, Athenaze, Argiope and MomSense asked wonderful questions, and Adam Schiff was gracious, candid and thoughtful. It was a real delight to have him with us, and it felt more like a conversation than any of us expected.
zhena gogolia
@WaterGirl: Rudy Giuliani is not going to jail. Yet.
The gallery is fine! I’m sending it to all my friends. Yes, when you agree to participate in the recorded meeting, all’s fair.

I had this one for around six weeks. No fever, normal blood oxygen, just a constant hacking cough with occasional globules of mucus and lots of sniffles. Early on I had some balance problems standing from a chair, so went to the ER. They did a Covid test that was negative, had me lie around all night, and let me go in the morning saying they didn’t know what my problem was. Later on, I saw a primary who diagnosed a bacterial infection and prescribed an antibiotic. After that saw my primary, who prescribed a strong med for the cough. At long last, it resolved itself this week, and another Covid test was negative, so I really don’t know whether I had a mild Covid case or not, but it was a real pain in the ass for a while.
zhena gogolia
@Baud: Haha! It’s not visible any more. Just palpable.
WereBear
@WaterGirl: I don’t know about the recording but I could see screen names. Which I don’t mind personally.

@Gin & Tonic: The green card application sounds like it was developed by the same people who oversee the secret clearance process.
On the topic of this video, thank you to everyone who helped to post it. It was much easier for me to follow along with than just the audio, my brain is a visual processor. Can’t wait until the next one.
zhena gogolia
@WereBear: I don’t see them on the recording.
sab
@Faithful Lurker: I make a thing called a tealoaf with about 16 oz of dried fruit ( raisins, currents, blueberries, chopped apricots, cherries, etc soaked overnight in strong decaf tea) that is baked, and then soaked in sugar, lemon or orange juice and peel and strong decaf tea. Tastes and looks pretty much like fruitcake but non-alchoholic so non-drinkers can eat it
ETA The Schiff recording was really good. Good questions, interesting answers. Y’all made me proud to be a jackal,
BigJimSlade
@Baud: Do you get special notice of new posts so you can reply first every time?
I mean, I’m not complaining, just curious.

I know this is quite late but I do love fruitcake and don’t mind the candied fruit stuff at all. Just a bit more nuts proportionally and dark. I like a dark rich and moist fruitcake. s This was an annual holiday ritual for my Mom… making her fruitcake. I miss it and I miss her.
Ramona Rosario
My goodness! I loved this! The questions posed by the community, Rep. Schiff’s erudition and insight AND the highest note at the end of his lesson on how to hold on to optimism which is still raising up this pessimist’s spirits despite my usual annual central heat induced sinus inflammation!
jnfr

I just watched the video and you all are absolutely amazing for putting this together.
Everyone was so well behaved!
There is a [CC] Closed Caption feature in Zoom that’s really useful by the way.
WaterGirl
@Ohio Mom: It turned out to be very easy to trim the video, I just had to find the right software. I asked John to post it to his youtube channel because I don’t have one.
The first two software programs I tried were beasts, but QuickTime turned out to be very easy to work with. Very happy to know how to do this now.
Denali
@Watergirl,
Thanks so much for making this happen! I could scarcely believe that Congressman Schiff was willing and able to fit us into his schedule. The zoom was interesting, insightful and fun! Hope we can continue with this kind of format!
Miss Bianca
@MomSense: Late to the party, but NO, YOU’RE NOT. There are three of us. We three, we happy three, will scarf all the mince pies and fruitcake out there!
KSinMA
Just watched the video, and it’s great! Especially (as others have pointed out) Schiff’s comments at the end about optimism. Downright inspiring. Thank you all!
Miss Bianca
@KSinMA: Me too! I am going to have to make the next one in real time!
