I often wonder who I would have been in Game of Thrones. And not Hodor, you jackasses.

I do like to bake, and Hot Pie definitely won the game, so I’d hope to be Hot Pie.

John, you are the guy who wrote the books.

Another GoT thread. Too violent for me.
I loved The Wire. Let’s dial it back.

Who do you want to be?

Jon Snow.
A lot of people think you’re a bastard, but you’re actually not.

uh, the Night King? I can’t friggin’ remember that show. He likes the cold weather, right?

I’m a long time lurker, but I always had you pegged as Arya Stark.
— expecting the fatal stab wound over the intertubes in 3, 2, 1.

Dolorous Edd?
Alison Rose
@lollipopguild: I was gonna say…there’s a wee bit of resemblance between them.

Lord Moldybutt!
Dlwchico
@lollipopguild: several years ago I dressed as him for Halloween work thing. All the younger people were characters from GoT and I was GRRM.
I think I pulled it off pretty well.

You’re binging old shows, Cole. I’m trolling old haunts.
Pick your poison.

No need to watch the whole video, but please do go see and hear the measured statements by a citizen who is my new hero (1:49 to 3:54). Link should go to the beginning of the segment
“There is no right way to do the wrong thing.” Formidable sentiment.

What’s wrong with Hodor?
Odie Hugh Manatee
@NotMax:
That was a thing of beauty to hear, every single word of it. It goes right to the heart of it, which means that the heartless Christians on the right will hate him for speaking the truth.
Which is something Christians gave up on decades ago because who needs truth when God is on your side.
JWR
@NotMax: Damn! Formidable sentiment indeed! Now, if only the bad guys could be forced to react like normal and thoughtful adult human beings when so directly called out…
Haha. I crack myslef up sometimes.

From Heather Cox Richardson, noting the 160th anniversary of a two minute speech.

And from Ken White’s (Popehat’s) substack, a barnburner about free speech:
Ten Bears
What’s the kill-ratio in that story … ?
Most people ended up dead

I’ve been rereading a great series of books, the Locked Tomb series. Gideon the Ninth, Harrow the Ninth, and Nona the Ninth. It’s complicated. It reminds me of game of thrones in that – if you could get someone into it, should you?
lowtechcyclist
Never seen GoT, or read the series it’s based on.
I’d be Goodgulf Grayteeth from Bored of the Rings.
Tony Jay
Oh, that’s easy. I’d be the character who you never see knifed, chopped, burnt, eaten, flayed, raped, crushed, hammered, drowned, hung or poisoned, the guy with no name, only ever recognised by his distinctive carriage as he runs like buggery in the opposite direction from any approaching trouble, legs pumping, arms windmilling, the sole survivor of a hundred scenes of blood-curdling carnage.
Yeah, I’d be that guy.
LiminalOwl
@NotMax: Wow, that was amazing. Thank you.
”There is no right way to do the wrong thing.” Just beautiful.
OzarkHillbilly
Some Gin Alley extra. Oh wait a minute, that’s me.
zhena gogolia
@NotMax: Wow.

I never watched it, but that character Diana Rigg played was pretty badass.

“I often wonder who I would have been in Game of Thrones. And not Hodor, you jackasses.”
JADP (Just Another Dead Peasant) like the rest of us.
ETtheLibrarian
My last name is close to Tyrell so I would have been the one of the family that stayed at home and not bothered with all that shite.
The Up and Up
He says he’s not Hodor so … Tyrion Lannister
That’s a good Game of Thrones character for Comrade Cole.
Sister Machine Gun of Quiet Harmony
Who I hoped I’d be: Arya Stark
Who I’m probably most like: Female version of Samwell Tarley before he got more awesome
Who I’d probably really be: Peasant who died early in the show.
Paul in KY
I’d like to think I’d have been one of the smart lords and like alot in the Wars of the Roses, just ignore it all & stay on the estate (obviously being in the far South too).
Paul in KY
@Tony Jay: That’s sorta like my take. Only I’d just have been ‘unavailable’ for any of it.
glc
@BethanyAnne: I checked out of Game of Thrones well before the end, but finished the Locked Tomb series, with a bit of confusion in the last volume – not in matters of detail but in terms of what, fundamentally, was really going on.
No doubt this could stand a reread as there were substantial pauses between the volumes, but not going to happen. But an impressive new (still, relatively) author.
Then there’s the Poppy War, where the violence has very specific historical roots.
I’ve always preferred my special effects in written form – cheaper, and more realistic.
billcinsd
@Tony Jay: Sir Not Appearing In This Show?
Dallas Taylor
Catelyn Stark, because you have a good grasp of the politics and possibilities, and no one in a position of power’s willing to listen until it’s too late.
JimV
The Black Fish. An aging Hero, not heard much from in these times. (He escapes by swimming in the river the night before the Castle surrenders to the Lanning seige in the book, which is better than the series.)
BethanyAnne
@glc: Yeah, it’s confusing. That’s actually primarily why I didn’t recommend them to the one friend that might like them. Because I’m still not exactly certain what’s happening.
