A nice splash of color to start the week. Thanx Ema.
I got my seeds started in the greenhouse for our winter greens. We’ll see what comes up. If it does as well as last year’s, I’ll be happy.
It has been a very strange autumn, both warmer and dryer. I finally started planting bulbs a couple weeks ago and almost immediately an armadillo began digging them up. Took care of him yesterday so now I can plant the rest and hopefully not lose any more.
Also due to the strange weather, I haven’t even bothered looking for frost flowers this year. The few times it got cold enough to produce them it was way too dry to get any worth photographing, That might be about to change. At least enough to raise my hopes and get me out and about in the predawn darkness Tuesday morning. We’ve had off and on light rain over the past 24 hours and it’s supposed to get down to 16 degrees Monday night/Tuesday morning. We’ll see if we got enough rain and not enough drying winds today and tomorrow. I’d say my chances are 50/50.

@OzarkHillbilly: The Atlanta area is due for a snow event, so we’ll see what the new year brings.

@JPL: After Tuesday we go back into the 50s for daytime highs. I’m ready for some winter.

In Florida it is raining and raining and oh boy is it noisy. It started about noon and has not let up. Hard rain that was sleep disturbing after a few hours which is why I am up. I have no idea what is happening in my garden, I may find out Monday. This winter is supposed to be La Niña which for us is wet not the usual dry and that cycle seems to finally be starting. Last month was dryer than usual. It’s not supposed to last long which is good, because a La Niña summer is dry with bad fires. There was a year in the 90’s that I still remember. The wild critters needed water so bad they chewed holes in my water hose and I installed a tiny pond (kiddie pool) in defense.
In the first weekend in January we have our local camellia show. I will try to take pictures and send some. The club holiday party is this afternoon and I need to cook a casserole.
Ordering seeds. Wrapping presents. Cleaning house. The internet is enabling of seed acquisition addiction.
Broke down and obtained one not all that many years ago but didn’t fire it up last night. No insulation in the walls, drafty jalousie windows, cottage raised up on piers so chill infiltrates everywhere, but it takes the edge off.

You must be getting old. ;-)
As to the construction of your house, exactly what I expected. Who needs insulation in paradise?
@OzarkHillbilly: I do, too! I’d never heard of such a thing until I saw them here.
Meanwhile, I started planting a bean or two from every batch I make. It’s all indoors, so I didn’t expect much, but surprise! Of the ones I’ve planted, only one appears to be a climber (I hung some string for it, then watched it curl back down because there’s no sun on my ceiling)–and there are flowers! Which I should have expected, but I’m a dolt. I’m wondering if I’ll get any actual beans–especially at this time of year, at this latitude, there’s so little sun, even in the south-facing window. Kinda doesn’t matter–it’s quietly amazing to watch them sprout and start to grow, within days of planting.
Angling to be the official florist for the Baud 20XX campaign, of course.

@narya: Most people, or at least a lot of people don’t know of their existence, which was a little surprising to me when I realized that. I have known of them for a long long time. Always thought that anybody who ever spent significant time outdoors in fall and winter would know of them but it isn’t so. I guess most people don’t like getting up before the sun to venture out on a frosty morn.
It’s a chilly morning but supposed to be sunny and in the 50s later so I might go out and mulch some of the leaves that have blown into the yard. Or I might just sit in the sun and pet the cat.

Here in Pinellas the rain stopped a while back but it’s still very windy. Been out clearing up the Queen Palm fronds that came down overnight. As they’re up to 30ft long it’s a pain

Saturday night nearly dipped into the 40s outside the domicile. More reasonable temp Sunday night.

Since the advent of indoor plumbing negated dashes out to the privy, why would one?
