Looks like we could use a late night thread. Not that late here, but I’m ready to call it a night.
Dinner was delayed tonight, Jasper was set to expire if I didn’t get my act together:
Don’t worry, everyone was eventually fed and they are all in their beds now (ducks and dogs, the cats are snoozing on the couch next to me).
And here is the 3-Minute Molten Lava Chocolate Mug Cake I mentioned yesterday
I also mentioned in a thread that I have stumbled upon Sort Of on Max and I’m loving it. Charming, funny, heartbreaking, and easy to watch a 22-minute episode when I need something to end the day on a good note.
This an open thread!

Late dinner make big doggo sad.

Likewise, not that late here in the Pacific Time Zone, but I probably won’t make it another 45 more minutes.
I hope Jasper went to his bed under his own power. I imagine it would be nearly impossible to move him there otherwise.

@J. Arthur Crank:
As I told NotMax in another thread, I’m still waking up at 3 a.m. (I’m currently on Oahu) so today, after I got back from work, I took a nap.
Refreshing … but here it is 7:40 pm local and I think I’m ready for bed.

@Yutsano
Take it you’ve been sprung and are comfortably ensconced chez Yutsano?
Yutsano
@NotMax: Not yet. Eviction day is now Tuesday. Also: I need to talk to a bunch of folks come Monday and Tuesday to arrange quite a few appointments and such.

just sitting here digesting all of the local red state legislation that is in the pipelines regarding pregnant women and transgender individuals. Just noting the cruelty, and the expectation that they will have blue states honor their enforcement. Watching social media roll right the fuck over for all of the information gathering and a big fuck you to the feds and HIPAA requirements.
Add into effect that red states are already prosecuting “pregnancy/abortion” crimes and strikes me as especially poignant considering how the fugitive slave act was a fulcrum in bringing about the Civil War. As soon as we dispatch Trump and all of his seditionists, I fully hope that we can right the SCOTUS and start about the work of disenfranchising these fucksticks from the levers of power.

I’m watching the first season of the original “Dark Shadows” on the Internet Archive, and it’s pretty fun.

@brendancalling
It’s forever been absurdly cheesy. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Mmmmmm 3-Minute Molten Lava Chocolate Mug Cake.
I saw a chocolate cobbler recipe recently that…Holy chocolate, Batman!
Also, finally watched Batman Begins. It was really good.
Quinerly
@brendancalling: entire series is free on Prime. I started watching it during Covid Times.

That doggo has a major sad!

@Yutsano:
Fingers crossed on getting all of the apps. getting set up and getting out of there!

Aargh! Edit window closed, what a poorly written comment. I haven’t had my morning cuppa yet.

There is an important meeting in Paris today regarding a ceasefire in the Gaza war. US CIA Director William Burns, his Egyptian and Israeli counterparts, and the Qatari Prime Minister will try to work out a temporary ceasefire of up to two months duration.
The “pause” would involve a release of hostages held by Hamas and “security prisoners” held by Israel; also, increased aid deliveries to Gaza residents.
TBone
@piratedan: so, this is happening now. I won’t need coffee if I read it again since I will be fully awake a few seconds in.

@TBone: Thank you. Horrifying and upsetting to read, first thing in the morning, but important.

@TBone:
That is terrifying for both the mother and her child, who I’m sure has been taken from her permanently. Talk about child endangerment…

@TBone:
I’d already heard about Ashley Caswell’s horrifying case, but hadn’t realized it was something Etowah County does routinely. One would hope the DOJ could get involved by claiming that this misuse of the ‘chemical endangerment’ law is a violation of women’s civil rights.
I think I’ll call my Congresspersons tomorrow.

@eclare:
Dinner probably turned Jasper’s frown upside down.

I am munching on one of your mug cakes right now, TaMara. It’s delicious but the one change I would make is to use regular table salt instead of coarse kosher. I’m crunching on undissolved granules here. It may be that coarse salt here is coarser than American “kosher”* salt. Next time I’ll replace your 1/2 t with a heaping 1/4 t of regular salt.
*Fun fact: All salt is kosher. It’s a rock! What is called kosher salt is actually kashering salt, salt to be used to make meat kosher. You slather the meat in the salt to draw out the blood which is a requirement in the laws of kashrut. Normal table salt would just dissolve so you need it in a coarser grind.

@Joey Maloney:
Interesting! I pretty much just use Morton salt so I can spend my money on good peppercorns instead.

Recipe question: The instructions say it serves two; so you share the single cake out of the same mug?
Thanks!

Thank you every one for reading that. I’m still trying to digest 9 hours of Shoah as well as

I’m relying on Victor Frankl to get me through today.

I will watch JoJo Rabbit again today and hope for the best.

@Joey Maloney: thank you for that smile.
TaMara
@Joey Maloney: That was fast! :-) I used coarse because that’s what the original recipe called for, but I see no problem with table salt, just less.
@AM in NC: Yes, hence the Valentine’s theme, that “let’s split a dessert” date feel – but you can scoop it out into separate bowls easily. Mug cakes have very little integrity, so they always come out like smooshed brownies, this one more so because of the lava texture.
Glidwrith
Most Excellent! Thank you!

@TaMara:
Of course, in the interests of preserving integrity, you can eat the whole thing yourself. (If I’m going to eat two servings of cake, I want it to sound noble.)
