What a photo. President Biden hugging Hunter Biden today on his birthday after they got lunch together in Los Angeles. Joe Biden is truly an amazing and loving human and a great father. Republicans have nothing on either of them. pic.twitter.com/BEwZpICAOC

You see, kids, if Jewish Ukrainians are safe from Iranian drones, Rusich Neo-Nazis and Kadyrovite pogroms then they might never move to the Holy Land. Then Jesus won't return and then Mike Johnson won't ever get to rub it in our face before the earth explodes. https://t.co/aWRHlOuJT0

President Joe Biden overwhelmingly wins South Carolina primary. MSNBC needs to STOP showing Democrats who say they are not voting for Biden. Who cares? Start showing the MANY People who want to vote for him. Marianne Williamson & Dean Phillips need to drop out. #VoteBidenHarris pic.twitter.com/cpvjKuXt3u

I refuse to vote for Biden. He’s too old. He’s an international crime lord in partnership with Hunter.
(Will that get me interviewed by the MSM? If so, I can tell them to fuck off, I’m going to vote for Biden, and they need to get their shit together and stop normalizing Trump and Republicans.)
Baud
I’m too old to get excited.
Baud
Also, too, we didn’t hire Biden to be exciting the the first place.
Baud
Man, your title was spot on.
Alison Rose
I’m convinced a big part of the reason Republicans hate Hunter so much is because he and his dad obviously have a close, loving relationship, and none of them have anything of the kind with their own adult children. Joe has stood by his son no matter what. Most GOPers would’ve tossed the kid out with the trash a long time ago.
schrodingers_cat
@Baud: Orange man gave me enough anxiety to last several presidential terms, so exciting is not necessarily a good thing in a President. Boring is good so now I only doom scroll about India. In Orange Reign of Error it was both India and the US

Yes, the Biden years have been wonderful.

The 49ers are now “America’s Team”? How do the Dallas Cowboys feel about this?!
GOOOO Kansas City!
WaterGirl
@Jackie: America’s Team. You know, the real America. White America. The part that lost its mind over Covid vaccines. The part that hates anyone or anything that is different. The part that wants to go back to women with limited options.
These people are borderline mentally ill.
Jackie
@WaterGirl: But San Francisco is CALIFORNIA. BLUE STATE. Governed by the hated-by-MAGA GAVIN NEWSOM!
Kansas City is in a RED STATE!
Alison Rose
@Jackie: Shhh no one tell him everyone in San Francisco is gay.
Yutsano
@Jackie: I am objectively pro Taylor Swift, and my visceral hatred of the Fortywhiners makes this an easy call for me. But to be honest it’s mostly a hate watch thing, assuming we even bother to put it on the TV.
dmsilev
@Jackie: If it’s true that you can know the quality of a person by the kind of enemies they attract, Taylor Swift is indeed admirable.

That was pretty much the theme he ran on in 2020. “Make government boring again. Boring is good. Consider the alternative.”

I’m down with rooting for the Sweet Football Comet given 1. ‘9ers are current division rivals while also being the fucking ‘9ers; 2. KC is a former division rival and you just don’t forget those many slights.
In conclusion, fuck the Raiders.

I think I hear wingnut heads exploding while watching the Grammys with Pandora ads featuring lesbian couples.

California peeps chatting all day about the weather because we are having us some weather, yessir. Decided to bicycle over to the river to see the carnage and while there are tons of downed branches, closed streets and such, it’s nothing like the carnage of Jan ’23. But holy hell did I get ragdolled by this wind! Just remind myself of John Muir’s account of climbing the big pine during some hellish winter storm to take in the glory of nature and then I feel less dumb.
Nearest Weather Service site reports high gust of 60 mph. We have the broken yard stuff to prove it.
CaseyL
I’m sorry, but I like both teams. Can’t hate on either of them. I like that Mahomes is the best there is, and I like that Purdy went from fourth string “Mr. Irrelevant” to franchise QB.
MAGAts are just the saddest things to ever draw undeserved breaths. Vile yet pathetic.
JPL
@CaseyL: Maga’s can drown in their own tears as far as I’m concerned.
Jackie
@Hoodie: Somehow I don’t see the Grammys being the wingnuts’ cuppa tea. Too ___________. Adjective of your choice lol
dmsilev
@trollhattan: It’s raining quite a bit here (LA area), started a few hours ago and the heavy rain is supposed to run through tomorrow morning and then lighter rain for another day or so. This morning I walked by the local arroyo/flood control channel. I had to stay up on the rim of the canyon; the city had blocked off the paths going down, which seemed rather sensible.
TeezySkeezy
@dmsilev: Unfortunately a lot of Americans seem not to want to take history’s word, or even the word of the people in nations of the world presently experiencing social collapse, on how awful “exciting” can be.

@Jackie: Since you mentioned him, I remember when Gavin split from his first wife (we all know who she was, folks) and a few of my gay male friends in SF were PRAAAAYYYYING that he might come out because they were just diehards about wanting him to be gay. When he started seeing his now-wife, they all had the sads. I was like, boys, not every handsome man in this city is gay. They didn’t wanna hear it.
Jackie
@Alison Rose: Too funny!
All you California peeps dealing with WEATHER stay high and dry! I saw a report of hurricane strength wind warnings for Southern Cal!

@trollhattan: I’ve already lost part of a fence and a great orange tree got pushed over from the wind. Fence is easy enough to mend and I think I can save the tree, it isn’t uprooted, just pushed over. It means I have to harvest the whole tree to do it and it’s full. Eh, such is life.
Brachiator
@CaseyL:
Yep. I am with you here, although I kinda want the Chiefs to win.
Lapassionara
@Baud: I’ve had a Fast Car ear worm before, Tracy Chapman. Dare I listen to this one?
Goku (aka Amerikan Baka)
@Brachiator:
Not a big football fan, but I’d like to see the Chiefs win too. Not a Detroit Lions fan either, but it would’ve been cool to see them in the Super Bowl, they were so close. They used to be a total joke

@kindness: Ugh, I feel your pain. We just replaced our fence last month–too many storm topplings–and I spec’d metal posts because they always seem to fail at the soil surface. Wood-clad so they look, well, wood.
Anyhoo fence doing fine but the tally includes one yard umbrella, one teak recliner, several pots, and since it’s dark IDK what else. Better than a tree cleaving the house.
Paper says 177k in county lost power today.
Goku (aka Amerikan Baka)
@trollhattan:
Living in Ohio, the past few years I’ve noticed there’s been an increase in powerful wind storms and power outages have been more frequent. It doesn’t help power lines are primarily above ground here, with plenty of opportunity for winds to blow down trees/branches to take out wires.
Be safe out there
Elizabelle
@kindness: I hope you can save the orange tree.
LA Times (?) had a photo of a massive fig tree down a day or two ago. Made me sad to see it.

Too bad she has the same lack of arms as the Venus de Milo…. oh wait, long black gloves. Never mind.
Elizabelle
@Goku (aka Amerikan Baka): That’s interesting, and concerning.
Yeah, the overhead power lines would be vulnerable.
wjca
Are you sure that isn’t supposed to be “everyone in California…”? I mean, between San Francisco and Hollywood….

Alison Rose
@wjca: Definitely not all of California.
I’ve been to Modesto. Where they wanted to have a “straight pride parade”.
Sister Golden Bear
@trollhattan: 230,000+ customers without power in the Bay Area alone. The PG&E outage map* shows just how extensive it is.
I’m hoping the power comes back on as scheduled in about 15 minutes, since we were one of the earlier outages in the day.
*Note for non-CA residents, everything south of Santa Barbara is SoCal Edison territory, who’ve managed to only have about 5,200 customer outages.
Sister Golden Bear
@Alison Rose: And let’s not even talk about Bakersfield…

I was thinking more of the view of California from east of the Rockies (plus Wyoming, of course). We know there are big swathes of California that are every bit as red as anywhere in Alabama or Mississippi. But from a distance? Remeber that, just today, someone here was having trouble with the idea of rural California.
Alison Rose
@wjca: It’s funny, right? Because they will also say shit like that one Trump lawyer bitch who insisted that Newsom only won his election and beat the recall by cheating, which implies that she doesn’t believe there are way more Democrats than Republicans here. But then they also act like the entire state is populated by liberal Satanist sluts.
I fuckin wish.
wjca
We got lucky: power only dropped for 30 seconds or so. Enough to require resetting all the clocks, but otherwise minimal impact.
wjca
Apparently cognitive dissonance can be avoided, with adequate attachment to unreality.
Frankensteinbeck
Cognitive dissonance refers to the process of rearranging your beliefs to match your actions. It’s one of the fundamental human brain processes, and wingnuts do it visibly all the time.
Humans are very good at believing contradictory things. It takes effort to not do so.
The Wikipedia entry on cognitive dissonance is a fine example of the site’s failures and why you can’t use it for school.
Alison Rose
@wjca: I assume they believe that our voter registration numbers are also a “hoax” or whatever.
El Muneco
@WaterGirl: The chef’s kiss is that the 49ers are the team where the entire roster stood by Colin Kaepernick when he kneeled for the Anthem.
Glidwrith
@WaterGirl: Husband made an observation: one of the reasons the MAGAts are losing their minds is that some football players are known rapists and women-beaters, and the MAGAts ARE THEIR FANS. Kelce treating Swift so well destroys that fandom.

To be Scrupulously Fair, if you take out the last 11 months of Trump’s time in the White House (that is, the pandemic period), Biden has created only twice as many jobs per month as Trump did. (It is literally true that, pre-pandemic, Trump had 8 months of job growth (well 7 of job growth and 1 of job loss) that were worse than Biden’s worst month.)
David 🌈 ☘The Establishment☘🌈 Koch
@Baud: have you tried viagra?

@El Muneco: Oh, that is funny! And good for the 49ers for taking their stand.
These people are clowns, albeit dangerous ones, being led around by the nose.
