Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The fight for our country is always worth it. ~Kamala Harris

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Trumpflation is an intolerable hardship for every American, and it’s Trump’s fault.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

Someone should tell Republicans that violence is the last refuge of the incompetent, or possibly the first.

Today in our ongoing national embarrassment…

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

Fear or fury? The choice is ours.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

Our messy unity will be our strength.

We know you aren’t a Democrat but since you seem confused let me help you.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

Prediction: the gop will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

He really is that stupid.

What a photo. President Biden hugging Hunter Biden today on his birthday after they got lunch together in Los Angeles. Joe Biden is truly an amazing and loving human and a great father. Republicans have nothing on either of them. pic.twitter.com/BEwZpICAOC

You see, kids, if Jewish Ukrainians are safe from Iranian drones, Rusich Neo-Nazis and Kadyrovite pogroms then they might never move to the Holy Land. Then Jesus won't return and then Mike Johnson won't ever get to rub it in our face before the earth explodes. https://t.co/aWRHlOuJT0

I refuse to vote for Biden. He’s too old. He’s an international crime lord in partnership with Hunter.

(Will that get me interviewed by the MSM? If so, I can tell them to fuck off, I’m going to vote for Biden, and they need to get their shit together and stop normalizing Trump and Republicans.)

I’m convinced a big part of the reason Republicans hate Hunter so much is because he and his dad obviously have a close, loving relationship, and none of them have anything of the kind with their own adult children. Joe has stood by his son no matter what. Most GOPers would’ve tossed the kid out with the trash a long time ago.

The 49ers are now “America’s Team”? How do the Dallas Cowboys feel about this?!

Fox News pundit Clay Travis, the founder of OutKick, blasted Taylor Swift on Sunday and hoped that her support of the Kansas City Chiefs would send the franchise down in flames.

“I hope that she’s the Yoko Ono of the Kansas City Chiefs, and she destroys their dynasty and puts them down in flames. That’s why I am proudly supporting the San Francisco 49ers, America’s team, on Sunday against Kansas City, Patrick Mahomes, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey.”

    GOOOO Kansas City!

California peeps chatting all day about the weather because we are having us some weather, yessir. Decided to bicycle over to the river to see the carnage and while there are tons of downed branches, closed streets and such, it’s nothing like the carnage of Jan ’23. But holy hell did I get ragdolled by this wind! Just remind myself of John Muir’s account of climbing the big pine during some hellish winter storm to take in the glory of nature and then I feel less dumb.

Living in Ohio, the past few years I’ve noticed there’s been an increase in powerful wind storms and power outages have been more frequent. It doesn’t help power lines are primarily above ground here, with plenty of opportunity for winds to blow down trees/branches to take out wires.

Apparently cognitive dissonance can be avoided

Cognitive dissonance refers to the process of rearranging your beliefs to match your actions.  It’s one of the fundamental human brain processes, and wingnuts do it visibly all the time.

Humans are very good at believing contradictory things.  It takes effort to not do so.
