Via Josh Marshall, here’s a run down of Kari Lake’s most recent encounter with an actual media outlet:
A defensive Kari Lake acknowledged in a radio interview Monday she couldn’t identify exactly who “stole” her gubernatorial election, said Ukraine “is lost” to Russia, and said she would not back a federal ban on all abortions.
Lake also now says her past criticism of the late Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., that offended and alienated many of his supporters was meant in jest.
Kari’s clearly trying to “pivot” but you can’t pivot when you’ve been talking shit for years. Since this is a local newspaper (The Arizona Republic), they actually call her on her bullshit. First, they dig into the abortion issue:
Lake said Monday she doesn’t support the availability of a pill that terminates pregnancy, saying she doesn’t think women should be taking medication that carries the risk of hemorrhaging.
You know what else carries a risk of hemorrhaging? Pregnancy. Hopefully zero people who really care about a woman’s right to an abortion will be fooled by Kari’s position.
Moving on to McCain, make sure you don’t have a mouthful of food or drink, so you don’t spit it out laughing at her “jest”:
In November 2022, Lake lashed out during a campaign event, asking, “We don’t have any McCain Republicans in here, do we? Get the hell out!”
She said the GOP “was the party of McCain. It was bad. Arizona has delivered some losers, haven’t they?”
Ha ha ha! Such a comedian. As with most bullies, “I was only joking” is just a bunch of gaslighting.
Here’s some foreign policy wisdom:
Lake said Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent interview with conservative commentator Tucker Carlson showed he is willing to negotiate peace in Ukraine.
I could go on, but you get the picture. Yeah, all the MAGAts will voter for her, but she’s gonna have to work a lot harder on her re-brand if she wants to appeal to anyone outside of the Fox/OAN bubble.
West of the Rockies
Did she borrow Michelle Bachman’s crazy eyes?

OT but Nikki Haley’s speech today is going to provide clips for Biden/Harris for the rest of the year.
“I feel no need to kiss the ring” OH MY
“I have no fear of trump’s retribution” OHH MYY

Hopefully having a kook like Lake on the ballot will boost Gallego, and Dems will pick up the seat.
Old School
I could see Don Rickles selling jokes in that vein. I guess Kari Lake needs to work on her delivery.
jackmac
Pivoting ain’t gonna help Kari Lake. She’s still crazy, hardcore MAGAt and she won’t escape that contamination.
smith
It’s strange — I see she just picked up the endorsement of the NRSC, but after that stunt she pulled in blackmailing the AZ GQP chair to resign after secretly taping him, I’d be surprised if she had the wholehearted support of the state party. Someone in the last thread mentioned that the MI state party is coming apart at the seams because they’re turning their paranoia against each other, and it seems like the same might be true in AZ. At least the paranoia would be well-founded.
UncleEbeneezer
Been recently exploring the incredible work of guitarist Bill Frisell and just discovered (and am now obsessed with) this version of John Barry’s Bond theme, You Only Live Twice. It’s 10+ minutes long but absolutely exquisite for every second. Enjoy.
sdhays
@smith: She’s got the endorsement of the NRSC? So they’ve given up on a stronger candidate?
Suzanne
John McCain held the Arizona Senate seat from 1987 until 2018. What a loser. Couldn’t win anything,

Thanks a lot for another ear worm, mistermix!

Can anybody play?
I see that we had the same thought. But I’m not evil enough to link to it. :-)

See vanishingly few Hollies references.
Also, the original was a spoof on Maryanne Faithful.
And that’s all I have to say about this particular Stepford product. Stay in the fvcking desert, lady.
smith
@sdhays: Apparently so. And Sinema hasn’t even started the process to gather signatures for the primary, which is hugely costly for an independent without any party apparatus, and word is, her PAC is running out of money. So it looks like it will be a Gallego – Lake contest.
trollhattan
I had a Gallego Lake quip at the ready but cannot find a fucking Gallego Lake anywhere. However, in the Pyrenees are Sallent de Gallego and Rio Gallego, so that will have to do. Anybody reckon they’ll travel there to debate? Kari can go whitewater rafting without the raft.

A Russian helicopter pilot who defected to Ukraine last August was murdered in Spain. No surprise as to whom the prime suspect is. (Gift link)

Speaking of dangerous crackpots who should be launched into the sun, another primary poll signals trouble for Donald Trump:
Oh yeah, he’s winning by a hefty margin in the state where Haley was twice elected governor. That’s what the political media will focus on when he beats Haley in her home state. But for a de facto incumbent and undisputed leader of his party/cult, those are pretty weak numbers. Imagine if a Biden challenger cracked double-digits, let alone 35% to 39%.
scav
So Kari’s utter disdain for McCain and all that voted for him is in jest? Figures. Most everything out of her mouth, especially her campaign promises, are a joke.
Another detect obvious day.
Manyakitty
@Betty Cracker: but that would only happen because he’s old. Did you know Biden is old? (Spits derisively)
Baud
@Betty Cracker:
So what you’re saying is that it’s Biden who has the cult following. #DisingenousBastards

Love the title of the post-yes, this geezer gets it! Reminds me of “Larry Anne” a song by a friend of mine. He was trying to come up with a good female name that nobody had used before, and things got a little weird, and, I won’t spoil the rest of the story.

Their best is Bus Stop. Fight me. :-)

@Betty Cracker:
Dean Phillips actually managed that in NH, with 19.6%… but it was a bogus non-binding primary where Biden was not even on the ballot. I doubt we’ll see that happen ever again.
RedDirtGirl
@Bill Arnold: And being struck by a vehicle.
Betty Cracker
@Matt McIrvin: Biden got a greater percentage of votes as a write-in candidate in New Hampshire than Trump got in the same state with his name on the ballot. Pathetic.

Kari Lake ought to get hired for the next season of American Horror Story.

@Mike in NC: Could Kari Lake be the subject of the next American Horror Story, only as played by Eddie Izzard?
Hear me out, I am very smart.

@Tulip: I watched this earlier today; I so admire her strength and determination to carry on her husband’s cause, yet fear for her life in doing so. I also fear for their daughter’s safety, who’s currently a student at USC. Putin’s reach is limitless.

@Betty Cracker: Haley was elected governor twice in South Carolina, but that was then and now South Carolina is solidly Trump country. If can Haley hang on I think she can do better in Virginia, which is also an open primary state.
I hope she does. Haley won’t win Virginia, but I want Trump to work for this nomination. Sometimes competition can make a candidate stronger but I don’t think that will be the case with Trump.

Will toss the calorie-free but uber hook-y “On a Carousel” into the mix.
Check out the fashion crimes committed on a couple of the lads in this live performance. Sad for us that colour video equipment was so expensive then.

I know of a few ‘crossover’ votes Haley’s already won in Virginia ;)

@smith: Arizona’s Republican party has been at odds with itself ever since Kelli Ward primaried John McCain in 2016. She lost, but then she won the state chairmanship and they have been losing fround to Democrats ever since.
Arizona uses a non-partisan redistricting commission and there are 2 or 3 purple districts that are now held by Republicans which are Democratic targets this year. Joe Biden and Ruben Gallego could help pull some Democrats into the House on their coat-tails.
Jeffro
I want it to continue being obvious…so obvious that even our blessed snooze media pick up on it…that trump does not have the support of nearly a third of the GOP. Especially compared to Biden’s utter dominance in the D primaries.

@Jeffro: Greetings, freshly minted Charlottesville Republicans!

@Geminid: LOL
Haven’t dragged Fro Jr. to the early-voting booth yet, but I’ll get him there. =)

Hey, it’s an enjoyable piece of mid-1960s pop!
It has to be a few decades since I’d even thought about this song, so it was a very pleasant earworm indeed.

@WaterGirl: while I adore Bus Stop, I’m still a sucker for I’m Alive, although I could make a case for Here I Go Again, Long Cool Woman (in a Black Dress), He Ain’t Heavy (He’s My Brother) or even STOP STOP STOP.
On the channels that I frequent I’m not even seeing any ads out there for GOP candidates, that’s how broke they are. I have seen some narrative setting ones out there for Dems, with the most active ones launched by Ms. Engel, who lost a close race with Ciscomani for a Congressional seat and now that Ciscomani has a track record, she’s able to label him as a out-of-touch do-nothing Republican.
Lake STILL has to win a contested primary and that is STILL not a given, part of the problem for the chamber of commerce GOP types is trying to see what method can pry some of the MAGA faithful from her because no one is going to out-MAGA her. I suspect that the primary may turn on fiscal responsibility, i.e. allowing Ms. Lake to empty the financial coffers with her quixotic legal battles… we shall see, maybe that faction will just roll over, but its unlikely… the antipathy runs deep here.

They’ll hafta fight us both, WG.
(Fun fact I: BS ;^D was one of a half-dozen 45s that played over&over after school on the HS cafeteria sound system during the couple of weeks we worked there on decorations for the Senior Class Party. I quickly picked up the lyrics with the exception of one word, which when I finally learned it years later turned out to be the word that had bounced me from the regional Spelling Bee in 8th grade, where I’d finished 3rd.)
(Fun fact II: There was a girl in the class behind ours whose theme song was Carrie-Ann – her given name was similar and she was in fact a [hall] monitor. I spent the next umpteen years inquiring as to what her game was & whether anybody could play, at the end of which interval I nearly ended up marrying her. As we were finalizing arrangements, she met the love of her life & discarded me like a gum wrapper. I have been consistently fortunate in those ladies I would have readily [and unwisely] married who in the end declined to marry me.)

@lowtechcyclist: I love the Hollies. Very pleasant earworm indeed!
WaterGirl
@piratedan: I like all those songs, too. I was talking about favorite Hollies song. But point taken!
I love the thought of Republicans being broke, and fighting, but there are a lot of millionaire republicans that will likely be funding particular candidates in key states and key races.
So we need to bring our best game, which I’m pretty sure you probably agree with.

@FelonyGovt: Glad to see I’m not the only one who is glad to see Mistermix back, if for nothing else than his obscure references to song titles.
