You have got to watch this:
I am in tears from the last bit of that interview. Move over Antoine Dodson. I am in tears.
(via Comrade Jake)
BTW- Since this is America, how long before the autotune?
*** Update ***
Two additional thoughts:
1.) Given the re-emergence of the Confederacy since Obama was elected, it’s kind of sad that we all find his last statement so funny.
2.) Am I the only one who lost my shit that he cared so little for the interview and media crew that when he dropped his loosie halfway through and basically stopped the interview to pick it up? I watched again. Not a loosie, paperwork. Guess I just assumed, because with my adrenaline pumping like that I would have had a cigarette in my hand.

Great news.

I said it when I heard, and I’ll say it again.
Amen, brotha, Amen.
He is definitely the hero of this right now.
ya should def listen to the 911 call though and you’ll realize how much of a hero this guy was.
Amanda Berry sounded sooo scared and there seems to be a child crying in the background (it would seem the child is her and the guy who abducted her and raped her).
It’s seriously unfolding like an episode of Law & Order: SVU
Comrade Jake
The second interview, arguably just as good, is here:

Great outcome and hilarious interview.

From the ‘I was eating my mcdonald’s” opener I knew this was going to be a classic.

Also, too, Charles Ramsey’s 911 call may just be the best one ever:

MoeLarryAndJesus
Gave me the creeps. He’s auditioning for reality TV. There is something really wrong with the whole scene. Look at the guy with the neck tattoo laughing behind the interview.
At least three women abducted and held as sex slaves long-term and this guy wants to be on TMZ and ET. Jeezus. Todd Akin’s got a coin-flip or something.
Mnemosyne
Ah, okay, I get what his joke was at the end — he knew the white girl was in serious trouble if she was turning to a black man as her rescuer.

Definitely listen to the 911 call. He went PG for the interview but the 911 call is R rated.
Apparently he’s a dishwasher for some celebrity chef, too. The chef says he’s a great guy (I guess he would say that regardless right now).
So genuine and refreshing.
WaynersT
@Comrade Jake:
Holy crap the call is even better – “Hey Bro check this out I was on my way to McDonald’s…” “I’m smarter than that, I’m giving you the address of THE CRIME”
God bless him – that really is amazing news. Finally something to cheer about after such a crappy start to the year.

@MoeLarryAndJesus:
How often does a guy living in that neighborhood get to be a Big Damn Hero? I’m not going to begrudge him for enjoying his moment in the spotlight.
ETA: Again, this is the guy who broke down the door and rescued the victim. Not only that, but was instrumental in rescuing at least two more young women. So, yeah, he can laugh about it if he wants to.
lamh35
Good lord, I can’t believe are harping on Ramsey and the bit about why he knew something was odd.
Why is it that we expect regular people to speak like a spokesperson would whenever confronted by a cameraman or reporter after a traumatic or dramatic event.
I challenge anyone to try to talk like some PR rep after just coming off of doing something out of the ordinary and possibly traumatic.
It boggles my mind.

Better he become a reality TV star than more teen moms, drug addicts, or Kardashians.

Amanda Berry’s 911 call is so heartbreaking.

“2.) Am I the only one who lost my shit that he cared so little for the interview and media crew that when he dropped his loosie halfway through and basically stopped the interview to pick it up?”
Is that what happened there? LOL.

The 911 call conveys the urgency. I like his style. “She needs everything. She’s in a panic, bruh. She’s been abducted! Put yourself in her shoes.”
Good on you, Mr. Ramsey. Well done.

PhoenixRising
@lamh35: they were found within 10 mintues of where they were abducted!!!
Yup. The whole deal, missing teens who never got a damn Amber Alert because CPD saves them for situations where the child is in imminent danger, not when a teenager might have run away…all of it including an attempted abduction of another teen who fought the guy and got away from him, same time of year, 2 weeks before the most recent kidnapping of an 8th grader.
Let’s take a moment and harp on that. Let’s just beat the dead fucking horse of the police department that my grandfather and great-uncle retired from, doing jack shit about teenagers who were taken off the streets in broad daylight, within shouting distance of the houses they built for their families–back when this neighborhood was all working-class Catholic busybodies who judged, gossiped about and looked out for each other’s kids.
The whole thing, at least two kidnappings and a decade of imprisonment, happened right in the heart of the west side.
Dammit.
MoeLarryAndJesus
@John Cole:
No doubt, so would I. But there’s still something off about that whole interview. There’s a “this is MY moment” tinge to it. There’s not much in the way of empathy for the women who were held captive. The “pretty white girl” joke (and it IS a joke) seems canned and plays to his immediate audience.
I’m not saying he’s a bad guy. I don’t think he is. I just know I wouldn’t be hamming it up for the camera after an event like that. And I’ll bet you wouldn’t either. Am I wrong about that?

The young lady Amanda Berry apparently had a child with her that reports are saying is the result of his sexual rape and abuse of her.
Damn!!!! I know, I know, innocent until proven guilty, but ugh. The vision of hedge clippers and “family jewels” being snipped is running through my mind right now.

So did I. Some of it I feel positive about. Some of it I don’t.
TooManyJens
@MoeLarryAndJesus: I don’t think there’s anything particularly off about the interview. He was talking the same way on the 911 call, and you can’t tell me he thought that was going to make him famous. I think that’s just who he is.
@rb
This was the best part. “Put yourself in her shoes.” Indeed, sir.
MoeLarryAndJesus

Um, what? How does that factor in, exactly?

@MoeLarryAndJesus:
Maybe show a little empathy for him and realize that he probably still has adrenaline pumping through him after doing something that is possibly the highlight of his life. Come on. Jesus Christ. This is not an ordinary, everyday “event;” something that astonishingly screwed up is going to make even the best of us lose our quiet, contemplative reserve.
The next time you kick down the door and rescue a handful of women and children from captivity and enslavement, I hereby give you permission to speak about it in an extremely excited voice, if only because, you know, shit is fucked up and bullshit.
And if part of the way you deal with it is to fall back on a bit of sardonic – and real – humor, I hereby give you further permission not to feel bad about it.
The prophet Nostradumbass
@Steeplejack: interesting about that show, Mandy Patinkin appeared in the first two seasons of it, but walked out on the show because he was too disturbed by the quantity and nature of the violence in it.

Mandalay

Yeah, we had a minor discussion of it in a thread a couple of weeks ago. To me it is the worst of the “law and order and gore” shows.
pokeyblow
@MoeLarryAndJesus: Actually, in a day or two I expect this guy will be very famous. Chances are, he’ll stay famous for a while, more than that: ubiquitous. And he may, longer term, be an obnoxious showboat loudmouth… or a thoughtful introvert… or some random, regular, combination of the two.
My point is, there are a thousand celebrities who are famous for stupid reasons. The fact that this guy — in the right place at the right time, and doing the right thing — might join them doesn’t strike me as problematic.
MoeLarryAndJesus
@The prophet Nostradumbass:
Maybe you can learn to read and figure that out, ‘dumbass.

Obama was golfing during the whole rescue operation.
Mnemosyne
@MoeLarryAndJesus:
Yes, you are. Because you have no idea how you’re going to react when you’re in a situation like that until you’re actually in that situation.
One of the most haunting stories I read after the Oklahoma City bombing was about a woman who was a security guard at the building who was highly trained in how to respond to an emergency and what to do to help victims. And when the actual moment came … she froze up. She was so completely paralyzed by fear that she was unable to help anyone. And this was a huge blow to her self-image, because she had always seen herself as someone who was ready for anything and would totally leap in if an emergency happened.
So … have you been in a rescue situation where you had to react to a cry for help? Did you discover that the person you had just rescued was a missing girl that you had heard of years before? Did you then discover that your rescue of that girl led to the rescue of two additional abducted girls who had been presumed dead for years?
If not, then STFU about what the “appropriate” reaction is since you apparently think he has no right to be proud of his heroism.
The prophet Nostradumbass
@MoeLarryAndJesus: I’ve read the whole thread, and the only thing you’ve accomplished is you’ve made an utter buffoon out of yoursellf.
MoeLarryAndJesus

Me either. But he’ll be long gone before Memorial Day. He’ll have a brief re-vogue during the trial, and that will be it.

@Mandalay: Not sure, but there is the underlying assumption that the correct default and proper way to handle the media is a bit RP stiff-upper-lip ‘oh, it was nothing really, please, don’t photograph me, kindly respect my privacy and speak to my assistant.’ Believe that as you will. The guy to me sounded the same on the phone to the police as he did on camera, so I don’t see him hamming it up for the media attention, which is the accusation I would find baseless. How much is default style, how much is adrenaline ramped, we’ll find out. But I don’t find it false and media-directed hamming it up for personal fun and profit.
rb
@Steeplejack: To me it is the worst of the “law and order and gore” shows.
I’ve never watched a single episode; I can’t stomach it or any of its cousins. The commercials are creepy enough; you can just feel the audience leaning forward and rubbing its thighs in anticipation of each new “case.” Way more warped and messed up than is honest-to-goodness pornography.
pokeyblow
@MoeLarryAndJesus: So let him enjoy some attaboys. Again, right-place-right-time… but he certainly deserves them.
MoeLarryAndJesus
@Mnemosyne:
The question was for Mr. Cole, who I think might have an idea how he would behave in that situation. I have no idea if you would. I think I know enough about myself to answer the question.
So you have no clue at all if I’m wrong or not.

Repost from earlier today, Elizabeth Smart is using her own horrid kidnapping and hostage experience to help others. She also calls out the unintended[?] consequences abstinence-only sex ed might have on the victims. One hopes she has an opportunity to interact with these young ladies.

I thought Charles Ramsey was being very genuine. Haven’t you ever been in a weird or amped-up situation and afterwards started retelling it in an hysterical fashion? With laughter and everything, even if it was a horrendous event?
The details he gave about hanging out with the guy(perp), eating ribs and playing salsa music in the backyard, “He wasn’t doing nothing out of the ordinary, ya know?”
Ramsey was in the right place at the right time, and had the smarts to suss out the situation and not just close his doors and windows, as some people would do.
I give him high marks for bravery and quick thinking. Kudos, Mr. Ramsey.
The prophet Nostradumbass
@MoeLarryAndJesus: So, are you creeped out by him, or not? You’ve been trying to argue both sides of it at once.
@dance around in your bones: apparently Moe doesn’t agree, or maybe he does. He’s argued for both.

I’m going to go on the record right now and say that if I ever rescue so much as a squirrel I am going to loudly proclaim my own awesomeness and tell the story with maximum hamminess for at least week. What is the problem with wanting to be a hero? Everyone should want to be a hero.
The Sheriff's A Ni-
@MoeLarryAndJesus: Its nice to know that in what may be the greatest night in the life of three families here in Cleveland, you’ve managed to make this conversation all about yourself.
Everyone in Cleveland knew of Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus. There were yearly vigils. The cops tore up a vacant lot a couple months back because they had an alleged jailhouse confession. To be the guy to announce ‘yeah I help rescued them?’ He can act however the heck he wants.
pokeyblow

You mean when they thank Jesus? I think that’s absurd.
Tell me when those jocks are making jokes after some women have been being held captive and raped for a decade and I’ll get back to you on that.

I give this fellow an A+ for his interview. He obviously swears a lot and held his tongue and spoke pretty well for someone not used to being interviewed. Especially fairly soon after a pretty big event in his life.

@The prophet Nostradumbass: Yeah, I don’t get what LarryMoeandJesus is talking about.
Like your first reaction after an event like Ramsey went through would be “How do I get on reality TV?” Fuck, he just went through REALITY, man. That must have been heavy enough.
Plus, I think we are all so used to TV news and talking heads that we all think we could be cool as cucumbers in front of a TV camera. Most people stare like a deer in the headlights at the sight of a camera, so I give Mr.Ramsey extra points for his genuineness.
MoeLarryAndJesus
@dance around in your bones:
What’s the “bravery,” exactly?
I’m glad he did the right thing, but I know for a fact that I would have done the exact same thing, and I wouldn’t consider it “brave.”
So a high-five for this guy, but it’s how we’re all supposed to behave.
We have really sunk to a low point if behaving in a correct fashion is now exceptional and “brave.” I don’t want to live in a country where that’s the standard, and I don’t think I do.
Then again I live in Massachusetts, so maybe I’m luckier than most.

The criticism of Mr. Ramsey is coming across as racial — note, not racist, but racial — because Mr. Ramsey’s manner and demeanor is that of a working-class black man, and his manner and demeanor are being criticized as somehow not “appropriate.”
IMO, Mr. Ramsey’s way of expressing himself is striking a wrong note with MoeLarryandJesus because MLJ is not a working-class black man, so MLJ can’t picture himself acting that way.
If you would prefer us to say that it’s a “class” criticism rather than a “racial” criticism, we can do that, but with the caveat that it’s very difficult to separate class and race in the US since certain races are automatically assigned to specific classes.

As you’ve said, a person can be highly trained for a situation and think they know what they will do right up to the very second they need to act and then get it very wrong. No amount of training will predict exactly what any person will do when the real thing hits. With experience they know how they reacted and maybe how to do it better next time. So unless Mr. Ramsey has rescued 3 girls from his next door neighbor before, one would have to say he did exactly what was needed to be done. That’s rare. And I agree that there is a racial or class tone to Moe’s remarks. A man can’t have a little well earned pride? For all the assholes who get on TV to “entertain” us here is someone I’d much rather watch and listen to. Because he is real, not made up reality.

TCG
@MoeLarryAndJesus:
Anytime you decide to help someone in danger, you are risking potential danger to yourself. That’s why so many people don’t get involved when they see others in distress. Mr. Ramsey had no idea if he was endangering himself or not. He had no idea what he was walking into. The person(s) holding the girl hostage could’ve showed up and anytime and shot him or attached him in some way. Time was of the essence. The girl took a risk when she tried to escape and so did Mr. Ramsey when he decided to help. Whether he perceived an imminent treat or not isn’t the point. And he actually did mention that he thought he was intervening in a domestic violence situation, and that can certainly be dangerous.
You’re right “honey” was not the proper term for you. Asshole is much more appropriate. I have no doubt the young women involved see thing much, much differently from you. Mr. Ramsey will no doubt always be a hero to them.

We live in a country where there are more guns than people. This guy kicked in the door of a house he didn’t own because a girl was screaming on the other side. He easily could have been shot when he kicked the door in or when this kidnapper or his brothers returned. Obviously he was brave and a hero. It’s honestly not worth debating.
The prophet Nostradumbass
@gopher2b: EXACTLY.
MoeLarryAndJesus
@The prophet Nostradumbass:
Forgive me if I think you look dumber than I do,’dumbass.
If this guy is the new standard of heroism we might as well all eat strychnine and turn the planet over to cockroaches. He did his standard duty as a citizen, good for him. Then he did his 5 minutes of yucks on TV.
I’m sure I’m NUTS for thinking those hilarious minutes are at least a little incongruous with the reality of three women being held captive for years by some sadist, but then again I’m a liberal and so I’m used to that sort of reaction.
The prophet Nostradumbass
@MoeLarryAndJesus: Read gopher2b’s comment. That is a distillation of why you are a goddamn fucking moron.
ETA: Would you have been happier if the guy had been all “Lawdy, I dinna do nuttin hee-roic, I just herd da white lady and hepped her out”, Steppin Fetchit style?
SatanicPanic
@TCG: This. If I saw a house full of slave girls I would like to think I would do the right thing. But I’d likely be shitting my pants thinking about how I might be pissing off some human trafficker ring. Or their pimp or something.

MoeLarryAndJesus
@gopher2b:
Sure it is, unless you’re a gutless candyass.
There was no gun, there was no kidnapper, there was just the woman and the door and the guy who saw what was going on.
He did what I or any guy I know who I respect would have done.
I’m still not seeing the intense “HEROISM” here.
MoeLarryAndJesus
@SatanicPanic:
Your balls are really that small?
Mnemosyne
@gopher2b:
Some people don’t seem to understand the difference between how people should act in an ideal world and how they actually act in the real world.
There was a reason that Jesus had to tell the story of the Good Samaritan in the Bible, and it wasn’t because people naturally help each other without being asked.
dance around in your bones
LarryMoeandCurly is obviously following Tom Friedman’s advice:
The prophet Nostradumbass
@dance around in your bones: Pretty much.
Mnemosyne
@MoeLarryAndJesus:
That’s what those three guys in Seattle thought. They ended up dead for their trouble.
But, hey, calling 911 on your neighbors is always easy and risk-free. Unless it turns out your neighbor has a shotgun, blasts his way into your apartment, and murders you for doing it.
The prophet Nostradumbass
@Mnemosyne: It’s also nice that the idiot says that since there, after all, wasn’t a guy with a gun on the other side of the door, he did nothing heroic, because, well, he should be psychic or something, and have known that.
SatanicPanic
@MoeLarryAndJesus: Yes, yes they are.
@dance around in your bones: One of my all time favorite quotes. If you take it not as advice, but as an assessment of human behavior, it’s actually smarter than it sounds. I’m sure Friedman didn’t mean it that way though.
MoeLarryAndJesus
Maybe the right-wingers have a point when they talk about liberals being cowards, based on the shit I’m getting here.
Nah, they don’t. Because I’m a liberal and I think this is all a bunch of bullshit. Ramsey didn’t display exceptional heroism. He did what people should be expected to do.
He didn’t do it under fire, he didn’t do it while under any sort of apparent threat to himself. If that’s out new standard of heroism we’re well and truly fucked.
Mnemosyne
@The prophet Nostradumbass:
It’s that’s good old-fashioned Republican way of thinking: if the worst case scenario didn’t happen, that means the worst case doesn’t exist at all. Except for the times it does. But smart people know exactly which cases are which. Except when they don’t, but that only proves they’re not smart.
scav
Fascinating that one of the Trinity’s complaints is that the guy in Cleveland that actually managed something is a camera hog and look at the spotlight MLJ was/is dragging to himself for the bulk of this thread. I didn’t even talk to him, nor mention bravery but was talking conversational differences and he goes off.
Mnemosyne
@MoeLarryAndJesus:
You still haven’t told us your heroic story of busting down your neighbor’s door when a strange woman called for help. You know you’re dying to.
TCG
@MoeLarryAndJesus: But he didn’t know that. He didn’t know what kind of risk he might have been taking. The fact that he didn’t get shot at is good fortune. Do you really think that bravery requires only known risk? Unknown risk is arguably much scarier.
Again I have no doubt the young women involved would disagree with you strongly and their opinions are what matters. Until you actually rescue somebody, you’re just talking shit about a man who did.
The prophet Nostradumbass
@Mnemosyne: He couldn’t have known that there wasn’t a guy with a gun behind the door, but he did it anyway.
That there, after all, wasn’t a guy with a gun, proves that he didn’t do anything remotely heroic. That’s some logic there.
“Dude, I totally would have done that” is another amazing argument.
MoeLarryAndJesus
@Mnemosyne:
Jesus? Why not quote Thor or Superman?
By the way, in the real world, people DO help each other without being asked. Have you ever done that? I know I have.

Hey you stupid motherfucker. Have you ever been shot or even been just shot at at close range? I doubt it very much or you wouldn’t be going on like a total dumbass. I have come within inches of being shot by high powered weapons 4 times, not in the military. I have respect for the possibility that any one of them would have ended my life and if, which I hope not, there is another time it will also be a close but not connecting shot for I have also known a number of people who are dead or disabled for life from gunfire. It is not in the least fun nor at all pretty and most of us know that. This seems to have escaped your little brain.
Don’t bother to answer, I’m too old to have the time to bother with complete dumbasses.

Tiresome troll is tiresome. I’m sure Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight appreciate Charles Ramsey intervening in what he thought was a domestic violence situation, risky as that can get. And the “put yourself in her shoes” statement to the 911 dispatcher he spoke to was spot-on, because listening to the emotionless dispatcher that answered Amanda Berry’s call, I felt like punching someone.
gopher2b
@MoeLarryAndJesus:
It’s pretty obvious that your issue here is you didn’t get to go on tv after your bit of heroism. So, you have the mic, tell us your story, you’ve only vaguely mentioned it like five times:
Mnemosyne
@MoeLarryAndJesus:
Yep, just what I thought — you’ve never actually been in that situation, so all you’re doing is pissing on someone else’s actions for the hell of it. Thanks for confirming.

@MoeLarryAndJesus:
You’re right, but only because what the rest of us are looking at here isn’t a hole but a train wreck- which wouldn’t have been so bad (whoops, the caboose went off the tracks!) if you’d have just backed away early on rather then sent more high-speed trains down the same line.
But do go on, please.
The prophet Nostradumbass

I’m still wondering what I’m supposed to “back away” from.
The guy did a good thing then lessened it by doing a stand-up act instead of stepping away. That’s my position and I’m sticking to it.
I really do not give a rat’s ass what ‘dumbass and company conclude about that.
Some people just don’t know what respect means.
Prometheus Shrugged
@Mnemosyne: Very true. When I was in college, there was a serious domestic violence case in the next door apartment. I let the woman hide out in my room for a couple of hours and call the police, but it wasn’t because I knew that it was the right thing to do–I was basically wetting my pants the entire time wondering if the guy was coming back, what my parents would think if they knew I was being questioned by police, etc. etc. These were the thoughts of a total wuss. But that’s what I was reduced to in those circumstances, even when it was completely obvious that someone needed help. I’m not sure I would be much different now, 30 years later.
I’d say that everyone needs a neighbor or friend like Charles Ramsey.
The prophet Nostradumbass

Well, it’s sorta too late now, but when the first slew of reactions started coming in telling you that you’re probably misreading something, you should have said something like, ‘Okay, I guess I just don’t see it that way. Whatevs.” Instead, you’ve gone all in, following one ill-advised retort with another.
Look, the guy didn’t dive on a live grenade, but he didn’t exactly know what type of danger he might face by trying to let the young woman out of the house. And whether there was any danger awaiting him or not, he just freed these people whose families might never have seen them alive again. That alone would get my adrenaline up had I been in Mr. Ramsey’s shoes.
MoeLarryAndJesus
@The prophet Nostradumbass:
Shut the fuck up. I didn’t say or imply anything about “uppity Black guy.” If you think I’m a racist you can die in a fire as quickly as possible.

From firsthand experience, the people who talk the most about how “I totally could have fuckin done that” are invariably the biggest pussies when a door actually needs to be broken down.
There’s two ways to identify these guys. When everything’s cool, look for the loudest bullshitter in the room. When you’re on a call, look for the guy hiding in the back, pretending like he’s doing something useful and hoping no one notices him. It’s always the same dude.
MoeLarryAndJesus
@Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again):
No, actually, he just got one woman out of the house. The cops did the rest.

Do you think nobody has read any of your other comments in this thread?

i love this man on so many levels…
HeartlandLiberal
@MoeLarryAndJesus: Yes. You are absolutely wrong. The man was being totally straightforward and natural. There was absolutely nothing forced or artificial or calculating in anything he said or how he said it.
This is perfectly clear when you get to the punch line at the end about his knowing there was a problem when a little white girl runs to a Black man for help.
What was also notable at that point, by the way, was the obvious discomfort the interviewer had at this statement. He immediately started peddling away and trying to terminate the interview, because he was uncomfortable with the truth which had just been expressed.
Wally Ballou
@John Cole: I’m nobody’s Biblical scholar, but isn’t that at least half the point of the parable of the Good Samaritan? Not just that the guy stopped to help a stranger, but that he did so as a marginal and despised Other (and after two “respectable” pillars of the community had ignored the victim’s plight, no less)?
pika
@HeartlandLiberal: And no one has mentioned (at least I think I read all the comments) a) the look on Mr. Ramsey’s face when the sirens go off and b) the actual risk he took in calling 911. As Beth Ritchie documents, Black domestic violence victims, for instance, are often arrested when they call for police help. To actually be Black and attempt to contact the police for assistance in this country is indeed to take a risk: will I be constructed as helping someone else/in need of help, or will I be constructed as the very threat itself?

Around here (Springfield, MO) when you say “three missing women” it has a specific meaning, when I woke up and heard that report it was the first thing I thought of. This year is the 20th anniversary of their disappearance, in fact it happened in May so it’s coming up soon. A woman, her daughter and the daughter’s friend disappeared. They left their purses behind, so you know they didn’t just leave. The mother was a hairdresser, so the theory is that she knew something that got her killed, and the two younger women were just in the wrong place at the wrong time because they weren’t supposed to be at home. Their bodies have never been found, and no one knows for sure what happened to them. I can only imagine how this town would react if they were found alive, it would shut down the city. I’m so glad for these women and their families, although I fear they will need therapy for years to deal with this and the aftermath. How long until the Dateline interview, the book and movie?

It’s hard to grasp that these 3 girls have been held up there for 10 years without anyone knowing any different. I guess that’s an assumption that they were there. Such a relief for them and their families. I can’t imagine how they must feel.

@Steeplejack:
What bothers me about “Criminal Minds” and “Law and Order SVU” is the way they just bring character A (usually a woman), brutalize her, and the focus is on the cops and criminals. Plus, it is on broadcast. It is one thing to see such a show on pay cable, but I guess I always considered that the restrictions on broadcast TV would limit this type of subject matter.
At least with “Breaking Bad”, the character of Jesse is haunted by some of what he has done, while we see Walter White become a stone cold killer.
As for the hero of the hour – someone who watches too much TV would think he is hamming it up. But, I can just as easily say that a man who is not on TV for a living has no idea how he comes across. Language aside, that man saved the lives of three women, and their families can finally get some peace of mind.

What the hell is wrong with ML&J?
I liked that, shall we say unrepentant Black Guy.
Let’s take a moment to try to be as clear-headed as Ramsey. He’s absolutely right that a white girl running for help into the arms of a black man means Something Is Very Wrong, and sure enough, something was. And it’s a big deal that he initiated their rescue.
Let’s look at what he did have to do.
You’re seriously telling me it doesn’t take massive cojones for a Black Man, knowing he is a black man in america, to rescue what is apparently someone in distress by kicking in the door of a house?
Trayvon Martin died for a lot less, as Ramsey very likely knows.
He risked being shot down like a dog by any damn armed passersby or policeman, with no questions asked or apologies necessary, and he didn’t let that stop him from what he needed to do—and three girls were rescued from slavery thanks to his courage.
You want to have him behave like a white TV anchorman when interviewed, when that white upper-clas TV anchorman would get the benefit of the doubt when kicking in a door, and he absolutely wouldn’t?
You’re an asshole. Let him talk like himself. A man’s character is shown by his actions, not by the accompanying line of patter. We need more of him and less of you, ML&J.

@MoeLarryAndJesus: HeartlandLiberal may have called it a punch line, but what makes you think Charles Ramsey thought of it as anything but the truth?
I just don’t get why you are so sure that it was all a put-on. That this guy you don’t know made sure to ham it up, not only for the cameras but also for the 911 operator, just so he could be famous or whatever. Why is there no room for doubt in your mind that maybe, just maybe, you could be wrong and you were seeing his natural reaction in this very unusual situation? Because it’s not how you think you would act? Well, who gives a fuck? Turns out, different people are different.

Ramsey may have been hamming it up a little, but considering the circumstances and the fact that this is the best possible outcome for the situation (nobody got shot, nobody was found dead), I’d say he absolutely earned that right.
And I work with a guy who has a PUNCH LINE for every conceivable situation, good and bad. It’s just part of his personality, and how he processes reality. Everything is fodder for a joke, whether there’s a crowd of people around him or just two of us. Ramsey reminds me a lot of him.
TooManyJens
@MoeLarryAndJesus: He talked the same way to the 911 operator that he did in the interview. So if he was hamming it up in the interview, he must have been doing the same thing with the 911 operator, right?

@MoeLarryAndJesus: No, I’m right there with him and everyone else who’s gaping incredulously at what a gigantic asshole you’re being in this thread.
Let’s boil this down: an ordinary guy is in the right place at the right time to rescue three women from a decade of captivity, and the sole thing you’ve managed to focus on is shitting on him because you assume that he’s hamming it up in his interview.
You don’t fucking know this guy. You don’t know what kind of person he normally is, what his usual demeanor is. You don’t know what his state of mind is during this interview. You just see him being high-strung and talking colorfully and the first thing out of your judgmental hole is that he “gives you the creeps” and that he’s “auditioning for reality TV”.
The pushback you’ve gotten as a consequence is the kindest reaction that display of asshattery deserves. Show some goddamn decency and empathy.

Maybe you should have a nice Drano cocktail, chuckles.
MoeLarryAndJesus
And listen again to that 9/11 call, where Ramsey plainly tells the operator that Amanda Berry is on another phone calling 911 herself.
The real hero here is Amanda Berry, who kicked her own way to freedom.
But I’m a racist for saying so, according to a drove of jackasses here.

@MoeLarryAndJesus: I bet we’ll find out that Ramsey has a past relative who was white, then we’ll have to stop calling him a black man. Or maybe that he wasn’t actually eating at McDonald’s, he was just sitting there with a cup of coffee.
Could you make sure, as you dig your hole, you throw the dirt straight up?

@Belafon (formerly anonevent):
Can I not kick your head in and say I did?
How about just admitting you were wrong, dickhead?
MoeLarryAndJesus
I was wrong – Charles Ramsey is different than I thought he was. He’s much more full of shit:

This time next week he’ll be landing a plane on an aircraft carrier under a banner that says “Mission Accomplished.”

Keep on flogging that dead horse, MoeLarryandCurly – you have reached the heights of matoko-loko obsession with your pet peeve.
Congrats.

@dance around in your bones: But MLaC is the real hero; against all odds he pointed out that Ramsey only kicked the screen in. The girls wouldn’t have been rescued at all had it not been for MLaC’s bravery.

@Belafon (formerly anonevent):
Bravery on the Internet! Hoocoodanode?
I just checked back in to see if 3stooge was still arguing with himself, like matoko-loko used to do at the end of a dead thread. Well, looky here! Coming up with even MORE stupid points!

@Belafuck (formerly anonevent):
Ramsey didn’t kick anything, unless he kicked other guys out of the way to get more camera time.

Dammit. Does anyone have a link to the Chrome version of the pie filter? Mine doesn’t seem to be working and I REALLY need it.
ETA: I’ve added MLJ to the filter, and if I click “show list” I see his name, but when I refresh the page, I can still see him yammering on.
Mnemosyne
This little meltdown has a certain … air to it, don’t you guys think? Especially once MLJ starts whining about how he’s the real victim because he’s an independent thinker who doesn’t go along with the crowd! He’s so persecuted! Why is everyone saying that Ramsey did something heroic when MLJ is the real hero of this story!?
It all has a very familiar ring.

@Darkrose:
Here’s what I found (I don’t use Chrome, so…hope it works!)
Also, this one – again, haven’t used it but they both mention cleek and Balloon Juice so – fingers crossed!
Darkrose
@dance around in your bones: Thanks!
MoeLarryAndJesus
It’s an honor to be filtered by unfettered asswipes.
MoeLarryAndJesus
@Mnemosyne:
You’re just sniffing your sphincter again, chuckles.
Curly
Really folks, who is the real Ham in this thread?

@Darkrose:
No problem. Some people just beg to get their ass wiped with pie. It’s easily reversible if they happen to make sense again :)
Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again)

@dance around in your bones:
The pie filter is glorious! I use it very sparingly, but it does wonders. If I ever meet Cleek IRL, I’ll buy him a drink. Hell, I’ll buy him a meal. With dessert. (Maybe some nice pie?)
dance around in your bones
@Jebediah: Agreed!
cleek used to accept suggestions for his pie filter and I had great fun adding pie lines….sadly, his suggestion page is closed for comments right now but he added one when I left a comment on his site recently.
It does do wonders for infested threads.
Incitatus for Senate
Please someone make a pie filter for mobile, the rampant douchebaggery is starting to ooze out of my iPhone.
