This was entirely predictable, and, in fact, I remember one of you predicting this exact problem but can not remember who or in what comment thread:
On the first day of the new Georgia Safe Carry Protection Act, a misunderstanding between two armed men in a convenience store Tuesday led to a drawn firearm and a man’s arrest.
“Essentially, it involved one customer with a gun on his hip when a second customer entered with a gun on his hip,” said Valdosta Police Chief Brian Childress.
***A man carrying a holstered firearm entered the store to make a purchase. Another customer, also with a holstered firearm, approached him and demanded to see his identification and firearms license, according to the Valdosta Police Department report.
The customer making demands for ID pulled his firearm from its holster but never pointed it at the other customer, who said he was not obligated to show any permits or identification.
He demanded the man’s ID again. Undeterred by the drawn gun, the man paid for his items, left the store and called for police.
Authorities arrested Ronald Williams, 62, on a charge of disorderly conduct, related to the pulling of a weapon inside of the store, according to the VPD. Police confiscated Williams’ weapon and took him to the Lowndes County Jail.
The police chief said no one can demand a person to show their gun permit. Under the new law, he as police chief and his officers cannot demand to see a firearms permit, Childress said.
So no one is allowed to ask any one if they are allowed to carry a pistol, not even the cops. So therefore, how do you know who should have a gun and who shouldn’t?
You can’t! America, fuck yeah! Maybe they’ll just start taking each other out. There has to be a niche for companies to go Target and say “We provide a gun free zone” and then let the gun nuts go to free fire zones and take each other out.

I would posit that America will not exist in the future because idiots with guns will have killed all the other idiots with guns and the entire country will devolve into chaos. At best all of the idiots with guns will cause the sane people without guns to retreat to their homes, never to come out and cause an economic collapse because people are too afraid to leave their homes to work.

Glocksman
@Amir Khalid:
According to the Georgia Open Carry website on HB60.
A reasonable reading of this does prohibit them from stopping you just because you’re packing.
On the other hand, inventive cops can always find a pretext to stop you and then ask for your permit during the course of their ‘investigation’ of the pretext.
LIke, say a traffic stop.
IMHO, this law is idiotic on its face.
I’m pro-gun in general but I also realize that with my rights come responsibilities, not the least of which is to carry the gun in a safe manner (quality holster and concealed) and not be a total dick to my fellow citizens by walking around openly with a gun outside either the hunting fields or a shooting range acting as if I were Billy Badass.

@J R in WV:
The ‘reasoning’ behind the law probably has something to do with fears of police harassing ‘law abiding citizens’.
The problem I see with this reasoning is that at least the local cops here in Hoosierstan are just as much pro-carry as the citizenry they serve.
I’ve never been harassed by the police the few times I chose to exercise my licence to carry a handgun.
The one time I was carrying when I was stopped, all they did was ask to see the permit and my driver’s license (Indiana permits don’t serve as a picture ID) during a legit traffic stop because I was doing 55 mph in a 40 zone.
What surprised me was that the cop didn’t even ask me to surrender the gun for the duration of the stop.
Of course I’m white and was deferential to the cop.
A black or brown man might have had a slightly different response, especially if they weren’t deferential to the police.
My mother worked in a ER for 30 years and told me that if the cops ever wanted to haul me in to never resist arrest.
Somehow I don’t believe that the Georgia law is a response to racial discrimination.
