    I don’t know about you guys, but to me this article sounds pretty devastating:

    …[P]rior to becoming a World Wrestling Entertainment or reality show celebrity, Trump kept a volume of Hitler’s speeches close at hand. Donald Trump’s ex-wife Ivana related in a 1990 interview with Vanity Fair that “from time to time her husband reads a book of Hitler’s collected speeches, My New Order, which he keeps in a cabinet by his bed.” Trump confirmed that the former Mrs. Trump’s 1990 assertion is true.

    The Hitler volume, My New Order not only contains 23 years’ worth of Hitler’s speeches, “it is profusely indexed and filled with details about the speeches’ impact on the media and the political establishment.” According to a literary periodical, Kirkus Review, Trump’s collection of Hitler speeches contains “actual quotations from Hitler’s own utterances, including corresponding data showing the effect on the world press. Section after section follows pattern-background, speech, press;” and Donald Trump faithfully follows Hitler’s model.

    Source: “This Is Why Donald Trump Sounds and Acts Like Adolf Hitler,” 13 December 2015.

    With oppo research this rich, do we even need a general election campaign?

    @RaflW: Unfortunately we don’t have any strong Dems with statewide recognition in FL. Which is why we repeatedly put up a pleasant and bland gubernatorial candidate every four years or Charlie Crist who is really a Republican. Running this year are Congressman Alan Grayson and Congressman Patrick Murphy who is also, from what I understand, actually a Republican, but he keeps running for office and getting elected as a Democrat. Personally I’m hoping that the retired Navy JAG catches fire and blows both their doors off, but given the way the state Democratic Party works I wouldn’t hold my breath.

    @RaflW: It should be part of her job to develop candidates for every partisan election at every level in every state. Municipal, both city and county and special district, elections in Florida, as well as judicial are all non-partisan, though everyone pretty much knows who belongs to which party. But in every state the Democratic National Committee should be actively working to 1) find talent to run at every level, 2) grooming that talent and supporting, and 3) finding people within the state who can serve as strategists and policy advisors for those candidates with the assumption that should they get elected, provided the individual is willing to serve, there will be an appointed/hired staff position for them.

    As far as I know the DNC isn’t doing any of that, nor is it doing anything like it.

    Yet another example showing why Trump is utterly doomed at the polls this November — as Matthew Yglesias points out, the Republican party is counting on heavy turnout among white rural poor people to boost their showing at the polls. Yet the Republican elites have now turned on white rural poor people.

    It’s going to be really hard for Republicans to win when their own party reviles white rural poor people and is now telling those people that their communities need to disappear and the people themselves need to either starve and die, or move out of wherever they’re living and get a job in a big city.

    @eemom: Ehhhhh sort of. The real problem is the rubes aren’t getting it. Trump is just the latest piper playing the tune, he’s just doing it in such a loud and blatant way that he sucks up most of the oxygen. If you notice, you never see Trump actually betray a conservative principle. He just doesn’t bother with the code words to cover racism and xenophobia. Trump created nothing, he exposed everything, the establishment Repubs hate him for that because that genie can never be stuffed back in. Once Trump is cut off, that backlash is gonna be HARD. And unfortunately it won’t be the Republican establishment that feels the brunt of it.

    I’m waiting until he calls Obama the N word here soon. That will win him more white votes and kill him with just about every minority voter save the Uncle Toms who think they’ll be spared once the big white purge comes. And that will indubitably happen if Trump wins. It will also be a bloody mess if/when he loses.

    @WarMunchkin: I voted for her and was glad she won. The Cuomo clique doesn’t like her because she was upstate and part of the Schumer clique. I was happy she won the first time. Overjoyed the second time because the City Moneyed High Hairs and the New York Times thought they somehow owned that seat and fawned all over Harold Ford for a few shameless weeks. As bad as Schumer is on finance industry matters, .if your idea of a true democrat is Harold Ford, it’s time to get out of your TriBeCa loft and meet other people.

    Doubt that anybody’s up to read this, but here’s Matt Yglesias on the Sanders campaign going forward:

    Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign was about starting a revolution. Having lost by landslides across the south and been defeated in Ohio, it now looks exceptionally unlikely that message will carry him into the White House. But his campaign greatly exceeded expectations and showed that the kind of politics he represents is considerably more viable and mainstream than most of us in the press realized. He showed that there’s a coalition ready to support and finance candidates that embrace a more democratic style of politics than mainstream Democrats thought possible.

    It’s a young coalition whose clout and power will only grow in years to come. Now it’s time for Bernie to point the revolution in a new direction and lay groundwork for the future.

    @Linnaeus:
    Some thoughts:
    1. Bernie won’t be holding a nationally elected office next year, nor will he be running again for one anytime soon. I’ve been told he’ll be running for reelection 2018 as an independent. From what platform is he going to lead a nationwide movement?
    2. If not Bernie, then who? Is there someone in that youth coalition who will assume the leadership of his base?
    3. Will the coalition, no matter who leads it, work within the Democratic party or stay outside it? The former leads to a risk of being co-opted by the establishment power structute within the party. The latter risks the movement becoming ineffectual.

    @Amir Khalid:

    1. He can start now with his current campaign, and start laying the foundations for something longer term. From there, someone else can build on that.

    2. I don’t know, and I don’t think we can know until #1 is done first (if it is done).

    3. I don’t think that’s an either/or proposition. You can funnel support to Democratic Party candidates, but also form organizations that can push the party to run and elect better candidates.

    @Linnaeus: It has struck me that if Bernie was really serious about wanting to win he would have done something to aid the down-ticket races, because if he did win he would need those people in Congress to help him move his programs forward.
    A Bernie supporter fussed at me about that, asking why Bernie should do anything for the Democrats since they weren’t supporting him. There was no talking to him.

    @Linnaeus: Someone else will have to do so. He’s still a Senator and he’s in his 70s. After watching the toll campaigning is taking on younger candidates I suspect he is in the same boat but possibly tiring.

    I noticed tonight that what I thought was a hoarse throat for Hillary is now probably voice nodes. Not a thing that a politician needs.

    On the republican side, Illinois is shown as having a total of 69 delegates. Trump is shown as winning the state and gaining 24 delegates. No other republicans are shown to have won any. delegates. What happened to the other 45 delegates?

    @Adam L Silverman:

    See, that’s why Howard Dean was the best chairman the Democratic Party has had in 30 years – he was all about developing the bench, developing the state party orgs – ground up stuff.

    He spent money on the state parties, rather than on filling the rice bowls of the Democratic Party Consultants claque.

    So they got out their knives,and cheered when Rahm, predictably, took all the credit for his work in 2006 and then kicked him to the curb in 2008. .

    Seriously – every bad decision the party has made, rahm emmanuel was there somewhere. He’s the Bill Kristol of the Democratic Party.

I just don’t see any attack ads against Secretary Clinton being particularly harmful to her since we’ve already heard all the “bad” things about her.
