Hard to overstate how ticked off Hill Rs are 2day with Trump running end around them w/refugee ban. W/@kelsey_snell: https://t.co/EfY7giNqKH
— Sean Sullivan (@WaPoSean) January 30, 2017
From the article:
Several GOP aides who requested anonymity to speak openly about the sensitive discussions said they were frustrated and surprised by the order and were forced to scramble to respond as chaos spread at airports across the country. Many said they felt the administration was moving too swiftly and without respect for critical protocol for vetting executive actions that have been in place for decades.
“This is emblematic of a new, power-hungry White House staff flexing its muscles without consulting the public servants responsible for implementing their fiats. If this type of behavior continues, then this administration is going to lose all of its friends very quickly,” said one Senate GOP aide.
As Republicans sparred over the formulation of the ban, they also tried to head off intense criticism that the order unfairly targets Muslims and does little to prevent terrorist attacks in the United States.
Oh you poor fucking dears. However mad you are, I bet you aren’t as pissed off as the people being detained and having every cavity finger-fucked by Trump’s CPB STASI. Not to mention, you probably shouldn’t have spent the last sixteen years villifying muslims, you twats.
BTW- will ICE be another renegade branch of Homeland Security like CBP has been the past few days, refusing to follow court orders and basically telling everyone to fuck off?
(((CassandraLeo)))
I suggest that we play them the world’s saddest song on the world’s smallest violin. It’s only fair.
msdc
To be scrupulously fair, some of them only started vilifying Muslims eight years ago.
SiubhanDuinne
Cannot decide whether to laugh myself sick at these assholes, or just say “Fuck’em all.”
Oh wait, I forgot. I am vast, I contain multitudes, so I can do both!
SiubhanDuinne
@msdc:
You must be new here.
Montysano
CBP, not CPB. Otherwise, spot on.
lollipopguild
Trump does not care about them or their widdle feelings being hurt. You would think that they might have glommed onto this but of course they have not.
EBT
Don’t we have a marshal service to enforce court orders?
Brachiator
Crap, we got Trump running around doing foolish things, and now Peter Capaldi announces that he is quitting Doctor Who after this upcoming season.

Memo to the GOP Congress: Talk is cheap. Do something about it, or stop whining.
alce_ e_ ardilla
I also love that it has slowed the momentum of their Obamacare repeal efforts.
millekat
For shame….You owe an apology to all honest, hardworking twats.
(((CassandraLeo)))
@SiubhanDuinne: “To be scrupulously fair” is one of those Internets Traditions that is generally used sarcastically, to damn an idea with faint logic or to make a nitpick that doesn’t actually change the overall point.

A Natasha Fatale “dahlink” would have been more appropriate.

Like Hilz said Dolt 45 showed himself early and it ain’t gonna change. His life has been one of fucking people. Why do the Gushing on Putiners think he will be different with them?

While Trump is running around and doing crazy things, and his supporters applauding a real tough white man in the White House, China ups the ante:
amk
@dmsilev: exactly. this fake poutrage is just that.
show me your papers moment is already here.

Darrell Issa was dancing all around this in our telephone town hall today. CPB are idiots who don’t follow instructions well; order could have been written better and not released so soon; several out and out lies about how it was not applied to green card holders and/or citizens. Even the old, xenophobic, reliably republican callers who were allowed to speak were not entirely in favor of it.
Lots of anger with VA not being any better under Trump than Obama. Issa kept telling people to contact his office until one guy said he had been contacting his office for months and either the VA was lying to Issa or Issa’s office was lying to him.
Like I said before, you could hear him sweat over the phone. Trump just does not play well here in CA.
Jeffro
Various Congressional GOPers’ reactions:
“President Trumpov, we’d like to stick with you, but you’re nuckin’ futs! At this rate, how are we going to get the New Deal repealed??!?”
OR
“Jesus…do you know how to do anything right??? Other than launder Russian mob money, that is?”
OR
“I need to know, now: is Steve Bannon with the alt-right, or is he a neo-Nazi? Tell me straight up.”
patroclus
The Republicans can do something about this fairly easily. So far, however, they only resemble the Reichstag. I’m surprised they haven’t tried to grant Trump “emergency powers” as yet.
devore
Lose all its friends! Does losing friends (in Congress) even matter to the White House?
Jeffro
@alce_ e_ ardilla:
It’s great that the whole administration is like Trump: can’t focus, can’t plan more than 2 seconds ahead, don’t care what anyone thinks, exist only to tear down others. It’s actually preventing them from doing as much harm as a half-sane person leading a team of half-brights would do.
amk
Sally Yates has more steel than the entire collective corrupt cong critters. It must burn the racist rapist’s lil brain that a woman stood up to him.
Nemo_N
I was going to watch a movie in Netflix, but that will only play into Trump’s hands.
Peale
@Mary G:
Ok. I have to laugh. I mean really. How quickly did he expect Trump to solve that problem? Even if Trump meant to.
EBT
@Peale: Dumb people have unrealistic expectations.

I was accidentally subjected to a few minutes of the Spicer Daily Shitshow, and he was asked about their claim that congress had input on the EO. The reporter said that the conresscritters they’d called all denied involvement, Spicer replied that there are over 500 of them, and so unless they called all of them, there was no proof they hadn’t had input. He also claimed they consulted with the various committees who have jurisdiction over immigration. Who knows though since both sides are lying liars. Can’t wait for them to start tearing each other apart/
raven
@Peale: Trump didn’t mean to do shit about the VA, he just got those stupid fuckers to vote for him is all.

@Peale: Hard as it is for us to believe, the Rust Belt bozos who went for Il Douche really did believe him when he promised the mines and factories that closed 20 years ago would reopen within days.
NotMax
@raven
As veterans, by law, are given preference for federal hiring, guess who the hiring freeze disproportionately negatively impacts.
Peale
@raven: I know. I’m just laughing at the idea that whatever was wrong with the VA would be fixed ten days in. They really believe Obama was purposefully standing in the way of a better VA and once he was gone all the employees would miraculously make things right.
Peale
@Mike in NC: I thought it was only progressives that acted that way. And they stuck with Obama until at least April 08.
Roger Moore
@efgoldman:
The problem is that judges tend to start from an assumption of reasonable good faith and only go on to throwing people in jail for contempt after they’ve been presented with cause. People who are interested in doing as much damage as possible will take advantage of that to muck stuff up while stalling in court, only to back out at the last minute to avoid personal consequences. And then they’ll try something just enough different that the whole thing has to be relitigated. Lather, rinse, repeat. It will take quite a while before the judges are willing to throw people in jail for contempt first and deal with the consequences later.
Fester Addams
That Big Cheeto refers to his executive orders as “decrees” I think shows exactly how much the White House has “respect for critical protocol[s] for vetting executive actions”.
Aleta
If they are really that upset, they should use this opportunity (unpopular president) to take back the powers they’ve lost to the executive branch. So let’s see you do it you smarmy hypocrites.
Roger Moore
@Mnemosyne:
Ouch. There’s far too much truth there to be entirely funny.
raven
@NotMax: Good.

@Peale: Privatize that motherfucker and then we’ll have a big laugh.

@Aleta: This. Trump sucks, but he knows GOP in Congress are cowards.

I’m sure somewhere in his self-erotica collection there’s a photo of him in an ermine robe with a doctored scepter.

I can vouch for that. Every Trumper here in Beaver County, PA, formerly a big steel bastion, has crowed to me that they’re all going to working in the mills again now that the Circus Peanut is large and in charge. And just roll my eyes at this point. They are delusional.
ThresherK
@Fester Addams: What are the odds that Trump has a signet ring and sealing wax, and believes they hold the same legal authority as in the 19th century?

I called my excellent Sen Merkley’s office this afternoon to say “Filibuster! Wonderful! Go Get’em Jeff!”. Also said if the the Republicans kill the filibuster over this no great loss. I am not a historian but my best recollections of filibusters have been bad folk using it to gum up progress toward justice. Seems like liberal filibusters never stick.
dogwood
I remember very clearly people here and elsewhere saying Obama sold out gays when he didn’t sign some executive order overturning DADT. Obama did the right thing, not that his detractors would ever admit they were wrong.

Don’t you get it yet, Obama hated the military and was a Soshulist* plant, he deliberately screwed vets, so now that we have a true patriot, who loves the vets, and wants to be BFF’s with Putin, but on his terms, the vets should be on easy street. So what it’s barely a week, he knows how to get shit done, and he’s a tough guy so everyone should have snapped to attention and fixed everything already.
* Obama was a soshulist patsy who Putin ran roughshod over, the Shitgibbon is a tough mans man who will keep Putin in check with all his mad negotiating skills. See, totally different.

@efgoldman:
The problem is that federal judges don’t go chasing down evildoers like Batman.
Federal law enforcement is supposed to do that, and they’re already compromised to an unknown extent.
Some judge will inevitably lose patience and start in with the contempt citations. The interesting part will be what the federal marshals do with said citations…
Baud
@Kelly: Agree.
trnc
I would settle for them being pissed off enough to actually do something besides have a short lived case of the vapors.

@NotMax: The PO has always been a place for returning vets to get their bearings, with opportunities in every state and rural area. But they are eager to privatize it.

Nice to see W step up on this, as his one decent presidential act was, in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, not taking the bait to target Muslims… oh… uh… ummmm… W? W?

I work with at least two people who voted for Pres Traitor McSexOffender. I explained the Bannon NSC story to him today, and he told me that he didn’t realize the president had so much power. I was tempted to tell him that a little research BEFORE VOTING might have been a good idea, but I had other points I wanted to make, so I resisted the urge.

@geg6: I want Les Expos to return to Montreal, and Les Nordiques to Quebec, and read the missives from the involved groups routinely.
I know the stakes are way different, but are they more delusional than I am?

Why does this administration have friends in Congress? Trump got where he is (the lil’ post turtle) by saying foul, crude and derogatory things about Congressional Republicans and their party. Are they so stupid that they think more power is going to make him…collaborative?
PhoenixRising
@geg6:
What’s the appropriate way to ask them the $64,000 question, which is: How are you going to know when he’s failed? November 2020, when you still don’t have a job in a mill? Before that?
p.a.
At least Washington Republicans and the usual suspect journos still get invited to the best cocktail parties.
Can you imagine State Dinners with tRump? ????
Steeplejack (phone)
All those genius Republicans who just wanted an empty-suit president to rubber-stamp their pet legislation forgot that he would be doing stuff to keep himself occupied the other 165 hours of the week.
Nelson Muntz “Ha-ha!”

@geg6: Having grown up in Pittsburgh I know just where you are talking about. Those mills have been closed for going on 30 years! I wonder what time frame they have allotted to Trump to make good on his promises. It’s also quite amusing in a very sad kind of way that while they voted for Trump, they also voted for Toomey, who is basically the spokesman for Club for Growth all-in free market policies. In 2010 the only thing that got him riled up was a threat to impose tariffs on Chinese goods. I don’t know what frustrates me more, the failure to listen what politicians are saying or the failure to hold them accountable.

@ThresherK: The Raiders left L.A. to return to Oakland, so yes, they are more delusional than you are. Those factory jobs are never coming back under any circumstances. There is at least a 1% chance the Expos someday end up back in Montreal, and probably a 2-3% chance the Nordiques end up back in Quebec.

Trumpsters are fucking morons.
MLB and NHL are going concerns. They are putting their faith in steel-making processes that are dead as wooden schooners..
There is the added truth that those stupid fucks wouldn’t last a day working in an open hearth.
Gretchen
@geg6: Seriously? They really think he’s going to bring the steel mills back? How is that supposed to work?

I have a friend who works at the VA Hospital here. Trump put a hiring freeze on them. How they think care is going to get better with a hiring freeze on an already-understaffed facility is a mystery.
TenguPhule
@patroclus: Because they’re worried (and justifiably so) that once they give him those powers, they’ll be the first victims to ensure they can’t take them back from him.
Not that it will save them in the end. No matter which side wins CW II, they’re all destined for the executioner’s axe.
