In many towns and cities, the pro-Trump "Spirit of America" rallies "did not draw more than a few hundred people." https://t.co/cBleZxz0M5
— Jim Roberts (@nycjim) March 5, 2017
… Organizers of the so-called Spirit of America rallies in at least 28 the country’s 50 states had said they expected smaller turn-outs than the huge crowds of anti-Trump protesters that clogged the streets of Washington and other cities the day after the Republican’s inauguration on Jan. 20.
“There are a lot of angry groups protesting and we thought it was important to show our support,” said Peter Boykin, president of Gays for Trump, who helped organize Saturday’s rally in Washington…
In Palm Beach, Florida, where Trump is staying this weekend at his Mar-a-Lago resort, the president’s motorcade stopped and Trump stepped outside his car to wave at a crowd of dozens of supporters. A smaller group of protesters stood across the street…

They are celebrating their stupid.
Chris
“Slavery gets shit done.”
But wait, I thought all the slave owners and KKK and all that were Democrats just like Clinton and Obama. How can it possibly be that a slavery apologist is at a right wing rally? It’s a complete mystery, I swear.
Enhanced Voting Techniques
Reminds me of sister accidental joke at dinner about the reason Trump couldn’t ask Bannon about the wire taps was” because one doesn’t talk to Bannon after sundown”.
Apparently the slavery T-shit idiot doesn’t understand history; the Pyramids were built by free labor.
Baud
The guy with the slavery t-shirt looks economically anxious.
Ian
I can see why the log-cabin Republicans backed Ill Douche, he was the only one in the primary who did not run around screaming “ICKY QUEERS!” I even recall him saying he wouldn’t be afraid to share a bathroom with Caitlin Jenner (though she would probably be afraid of sharing one with him).
So, log cabin republicans, now that HB-2 is on its way to nationwide status and the educational department is dropping protections for transgendered, how did that gays for Trump thing work out?
And how is Obergefell going to hold up with Gortusch?
Baud
@Ian:
He’s replacing Scalia, so no threat yet.
amk
of course, twitler lied yet again about this.
It’s clear whatever ‘great support’ he had was shallow to begin with and getting shallower. And yet the goppers kiss his ass.
Ridnik Chrome
@Baud: It’s not a done deal. I’m still hoping we can do unto Gorusch as the Republicans did to Garland.
ETA: Bet that guy in the t-shirt isn’t volunteering to be one of the slaves…
Enhanced Voting Techniques
Wow, the supporters Trump has are just bat shit crazy too, That video of them just screaming like lunatics.
Baud
@Ridnik Chrome: I know. I’m just saying his vote doesn’t turn back Obergefell
Baud
@Enhanced Voting Techniques: You previously thought they weren’t?
danielx
Long time Trump advisor Roger Stone indulges self in (what else?) epic Twitter melt down.
All class, these people.

@Baud:
He or someone just like him will show up at my house the next time I call a contractor for a roofing, plumbing or carpentry estimate, unfortunately.
Enhanced Voting Techniques
@Baud: I didn’t picture them only being able to communicate by gobbling like a pack of turkeys. So that’s what the wingnut event horizon looks like, just a stream of meaningless shrieks and grunts.

Has cheeto commented on N. Korean missile tests?
OzarkHillbilly
@Baud: And he needs slaves because of it.

@Villago Delenda Est:
Speaking of celebrating the stupid, here’s an article suggesting that Trump’s wiretapping claims against Obama might be libelous: http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/analysis-does-obama-have-grounds-sue-trump-libel-n729376
OzarkHillbilly
@germy: They were just as he ordered them.
germy
@OzarkHillbilly: I think I read here a few weeks ago that cheeto’s people were postponing his U.K. trip until “things cool down over there.” If he can’t make nice with our easy allies like the British, what happens when he has to “negotiate” with some of our more troublesome world neighbors?
Jeffro
@Enhanced Voting Techniques:
and NO UNIONS either, dang it! Much less OSHA and EPA and their stoopid regulationz!!1!
MattF
@danielx: One may wonder what Stone is so pissed off about. But no, I don’t actually want to know.

Summary of wiretapping issue:
1. IC routinely monitors Russians
2. IC was not monitoring Trump/associates
3. Trump/associates keep calling Russians
4. ooops
5. solution – stop calling Russians
PPCLI
@Chris: So I guess we should kidnap the guy in the t-shirt and make him a slave. He’s apparently cool with that.

@germy: WASF.

@germy: Head of Australia’s intelligence agency body-searched at LAX while traveling on diplomatic passport. Trump doesn’t want allies, just vassals.

I suppose it’s good if Trump’s rabid, party-destroying fanbase isn’t actually that rabid, if it lets Republican lawmakers feel freer to call for his head.
They do seem awful confident with this wiretapping gambit, though. None of the usual careful walk-backs. I wonder what their game is.
Yarrow
@Ian: But Peter Thiel told us Trump didn’t mean all that stuff about the gays. It was just talk!
amk
@germy: Remember the fight he picked up a fight with aussie pm (no saint hisself) the first week in office?
Well, twitler got his revenge today. Or his border thugs did.
PPCLI
Hey, it turns out that Trump’s foreign corruption doesn’t just involve Russia. Iran too!
Aleta
This video might be off topic or it might be remarkably on topic for some.
(A group of turkeys are somberly circling a cat who has died.)
It’s an interesting piece of movement anyway.

@germy: The UK trip is postponed until October. The article I read indicated it’s being postponed partially because of the huge protests that were being planned in London. The trip was to be in June so warm weather and long days could mean protests almost around the clock. They’ve moved it to October and mostly in Scotland, which will be much cooler, probably rainy and fewer people.
I think they’re thinking they might not have to deal with him at all by then.
germy
@JMG:
We took a European vacation a few years ago. Returning home; the airport experience was unpleasant. I’m not interested in finding out how much worse it’s gotten since then. If they can do that to VIPs, I can imagine how they’d treat my wife and I.
germy
@amk: From what I understand, the Australian PM had the word “liberal” next to his title, so Cheeto thought he’d go all Hannity vs. Colmes on him?
Weaselone
@O. Felix Culpa:
I was actually wondering about that myself. Generally, the courts give a wide degree of latitude for this type of stuff when the target is a public figure, but there are limits and if anything broke those limits, this might be it.
1. Trump’s the President of the United States, so anything he says is automatically granted credibility and is therefore damaging.
2. Trump’s the President, so he’s hitting down even against Obama. The concern for chilling free speech is pretty minimal here.
3. What Trump said is incredibly egregious. He basically stated that Obama was Nixon on steroids. That sort of claim should require some serious evidence, particularly if uttered by a powerful public figure
MattF
@Aleta: There’s a metaphor in that. Somewheres.
Aleta
@D58826: You should write Foreign Policy for Dummies.
PPCLI
@JMG: I’m not sure about that article. It hasn’t been picked up by any of the Australian papers, and you would think it would be a huge national story. It would be outrageous if true. Also, the tone is weird and there is a jarring racist expression at the end. I’ll wait to read it somewhere else before I believe it just yet.
O. Felix Culpa
@Aleta:
Trouble is, the dummies who need to read it won’t – or can’t.
Emma
@Jeffro: Actually, maybe no unions but they could strike and did:
The journal is of course interesting for its records, but it also highlights another aspect of the workmen’s activities. It contains abstracts of a communication and reply centering round the apparent temporary withdrawal of manpower. Some people were remaining at home instead of attending their work. The vizier or secretary suggested ascertaining what orders had actually been given, and to stop the people coming to the palace to air their grievances. Considering there is a record of a strike out at Deir el-Medina several centuries later on, this incident in the12th dynasty might foreshadow it. The workers may have realized their potential power, and had gotten into the habit of staying away from the construction sites until their grievances were resolved.
From here.
MattF
@Emma: Spurred on by Jewish agitators, one supposes.
Major Major Major Major
@Aleta: Npr had the best headline about this. Something like, “Group of turkeys circling dead cat probably wary, not practicing black magic.” The ‘probably’ cracked me up.

Stone is mad because he accidentally outed himself as being directly connected to Julius Assange, and Twitter jumped all over it.

@PPCLI:
This was sad:
“A senior executive at one of the largest American hotel chains, who asked for anonymity because he feared reprisal from the Trump Administration…”
Also, too, does this sound familiar?:
“Wrage pointed out that corrupt government leaders often use their children or their siblings to distance themselves from illicit projects. Such an official creates a company in the relative’s name which appears to be independent but is controlled by the official.”
Aleta
A casualty of this administration may be my resistance to the dark side.

@Goku: This is what people like Sarah Kendzior who study authoritarianism have been saying for a long time. Since well before the election. Authoritarians and kleptocracrats install their families in key positions in the government, as well as have them run their businesses. Or “run” their businesses.
Trump’s installation of Jared Kushner, his son-in-law, as an adviser and his supposed handing over of his business dealings to his kids are exactly that.

Trump has found his brownshirts.
Aleta
@Just One More Canuck: yes wild ones will fly up and roost in a stand of trees together
Matt McIrvin
To be fair, I think that to a large degree it’s a sign that Trump’s support is older and more suburban and rural–protest marches are not how these people express themselves; ranting on Facebook and repeating things they saw on Fox News is more their speed.

That “slavery gets shit done” jackass is my mental image of every Trump supporter under 65. Jesse Pinkman with his “Captain Cook” vanity plate.

The “crowd” at the Kansas City rally was about 200, compared to about 5000 for the women’s march here.

@Baud: I have a friend with that tshirt, he wears it ironically. He’s half Arab, so he wouldn’t be at a Trump rally.

I enjoyed seeing the three, yes, count ’em, THREE shitgibbon supporters on a corner in Omaha. It was overwhelming!

Breaking news, the shitgibbon issues a replacement travel ban on Muslims, which is still offensive and still illegal.

@germy: We did a Viking European river cruise in the fall of 2015. Going there was a snap; coming back to the U.S. was a royal PITA. I can’t believe how many times I had to show my passport, and that “taking possession of your suitcase for 10 seconds in the airport” was just plain stupid. Our rules seem stupid to me, can you imagine how someone from another country sees them? Our airports are particularly unwelcoming.
germy
@Soprano2: When we returned, an agent demanded to see my wallet. I handed it to him, my driver’s license was visible when he opened it, he sneered and made a joke about my hometown. Also, they treated us like criminals because all we had was carry-on luggage.

@Aleta:
Wild turkeys are huge birds, and seeing them flying in the woods is an incredible acrobatic event to witness.
So they can fly, and very well. But not the tame meat-bred birds. And their use of magic is no surprise either.
