Valued commenter opiejeanne says several folks are in for a brunch meetup next weekend — Sunday, November 12. If you’re interested in attending, speak up. Also, please hash out where to meet in comments! (I’d make suggestions, but I’m 2,500 miles away and have only driven through L.A. once about 25 years ago.)
When you figure it all out, let me know the details via the “contact a front pager” thingy (or email me directly at bettycrackerfl-at-gmail-dot-com), and I’ll post a notice between now and then. Thanks!
ET
Totally OT but just Had to congratulate the people greeting tRump in Hawaii with Welcome to Kenya signs.
Fair Economist
I’m in for a meetup. No suggestions for a place since I assume it will be vaguely in the downtown-Burbank-Pasadena area and I’m in OC.
Baud
@ET: Nice.
Mnemosyne
@Fair Economist:
Pasadena is actually not too bad to get to on the weekends if you take the 605 instead of one of the more popular freeways.
I lean towards Pasadena because that’s where the majority seem to be located.
Roger Moore
@Mnemosyne:
Pasadena would obviously be great for me. We could go someplace in Old Pasadena, like Kings Row or Lucky Baldwins.
Mnemosyne
@Roger Moore:
The Lucky Baldwins Trappiste near PCC has much better parking and is quieter.
debbie
@ET:
Brilliant!
Frankensteinbeck
I’m way out in Crenshaw (a thankfully much nicer neighborhood than its reputation) so nowhere anyone picks will be convenient for me! I’ll wait and hear what’s decided.
Elizabelle
Have a wonderful meetup. I will try to meet you all one of these days. Jonesing for a trip back to California. I guess not this year.
@ET:
I loved that. Brilliant. And signs with angry cats on them.
sigaba
@Frankensteinbeck: Another year or so and you can take the train to Pasadena.
Roger Moore
@Mnemosyne:
Trappiste would work fine for me. Honestly, practically anywhere in Pasadena would be OK for me.
feebog
I’m a half hour away in the North Valley; the 12th is good for me. We might consider Burger Continental on Lake. They have a huge covered patio with large tables in the rear.
Mnemosyne
@feebog:
Is that anywhere near the Du-Par’s on Lake? That’s where my NaNoWriMo write-in will be.
Uncle Cosmo
@ET: They could also have recycled the signs that greeted Michael
Fathead, Flatfoot,Flatley at Dublin airport upon his return to Ireland after Riverdance’s first world tour:– but this was more to the point,
Roger Moore
@feebog:
I would prefer not; I am still nursing a grudge against the place from when they ran the food service my freshman year.
burnspbesq
@Fair Economist:
Maybe we should regale them with tales of the awesome brunch menu at Taco Mesa on E. Chapman in Orange and see if they’ll take the bait.
It really is awesome.
Ruckus
I’m in. (Yes I looked at a calendar and know what day it is. Now.)
I’d selfishly vote for Old Town Pasadena just because I can walk to anywhere in it as I live here.
Ruckus
@Roger Moore:
Maybe that’s what did them in. They closed in 2015. They were closed for serious health code issues in 2013.
So maybe not the best choice for a meet up.
Fair Economist
@burnspbesq:
That’s a great place to be hooked! And if you overeat, you can work it off at the 24 Hour Fitness in the same complex.

As a resident of nearby Glendale, Pasadena works for me.

The 12th is all well and good for me, howerver(and I can’t find the comment) but opiejeanne and Mr. opiejeanne are leving on the 12th. It probably wouldn’t work for them.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@SiubhanDuinne:
Never stopped me.
opiejeanne
@Frankensteinbeck: OH do come! I read your first book and loved it. I need to read some more of your stuff; I know there are more books but I’ve been.a bit lazy.
Dulcie
I’m sad. I’ll be in L.A. the following weekend. Y’all have a great time!
opiejeanne
@?BillinGlendaleCA: No, that was me not looking at the calendar correctly. We don’t have to leave until the next day. I suggested Sunday the 12th a couple of days ago once I realized we had more time before we have to leave.
The 12th is super, Pasadena is super, Orange is super. I think we’re parking the cat with a friend in Huntington Beach on Sunday morning, will spend the night there. I may bring her along because she’d fit right in, and she asked me a couple of days ago: “What is Balloon Juice?”
opiejeanne
@?BillinGlendaleCA: heh heh.
I guess it snowed last night at our “real house”. There was snow left on the roof this afternoon when my kids went over. I’m glad we had such nice weather for this visit to the cabin. Looks like the snow that was supposed to be here tonight will not make an appearance. Oh well.

@opiejeanne: @opiejeanne:
Your house must be a nexus of the temple to the snow goddess or something–I remember stopping by to drop off something at your place on my (intended) way to Seattle last year, only to turn the other way out of your street and head right back home at the radio reports of “thundersnow”. I just barely beat it back to Marysville, at that.
opiejeanne
@thalarctosMaritimus: Wait, are you the poster formerly known as RavenSarah?
sigaba
BTW i’d love to come, I come from downtown so Pasadena is good.
opiejeanne
@sigaba: Pasadena sounds good to me.
Dmbeaster
Dang. Overseas until Tuesday 11/14
thalarctosMaritimus
@opiejeanne: Yes, that’s my real-life name. (without the “h”)

Sunday 11/12 works for me. What time are we thinking? The Lucky B’s on Allen/Colorado in Pasadena would be great. I’ve had a couple progressive meetings there and it’s not as loud (and has more parking) than the one in Old Town.
EL
I am 90% in, small chance I won’t be able to make it. Pasadena or Glendale or any place close is perfect for me.
Note that Burger Continental closed this year.
cthulhu
Should be able to make it. Coming from SFV so Pasadena is certainly easy on a Sunday.
