No one has situated Klobuchar's perfectionism within the well-documented construct of being the child of an alcoholic fighting chaos.
Harris and Klobuchar both had to work harder than their male counterparts to get on their college & career paths, due to their backgrounds.

Klobuchar got into politics to fight for a 48hr law for women giving birth. Forced out of the hospital too soon, Klobuchar had to deal with complications of her daughter being unable to swallow. She took her fight to the Minnesota State legislature and got a 48hr law passed.

Certainly many Americans–especially those of Sanders WWII generation–will relate to his tales of working class life raised by immigrant parents.
Harris, too, was raised by immigrant parents, and her immigration story is just as common. And as a WOC, more reflective of now.

Klobuchar's perfectionism may have real-world results: she has passed more legislation than any of the 6 other senators running.
America loves origin stories.Yet while Sanders was granted the mantle of working class hero in 2016, Hillary's mother was a domestic servant.

In 2016, it turned out many of the harshest critics of #HillaryClinton were sexual harassers & abusers of women and co-workers. Viewing their bias through that #MeToo scrim raises real questions about whether women can even get fair coverage when they run for president.

Few disagree that the most critical point to the 2020 race is getting Trump out of office. The person most likely to unify voters is not the oldest person in the race, but one of the younger, fresher, more exciting candidates. How we get there is with full and fair coverage.

@NotMax:
As I said in 2008, one of the reasons white people liked Obama is that he had an immigration story, and immigration stories are social currency among white people.
That’s why I think that, unless something unexpected pops up from her background John Edwards-style, Kamala Harris is the one to beat. She has an immigration story that white voters can relate to and she has strong ties in the African-American social and political worlds.

“Open water has replaced sea ice in much of the Bering Sea off Alaska’s west coast, leaving villages vulnerable to powerful winter storms and adding challenges to Alaska Native hunters seeking marine mammals, an expert said Monday.
Rick Thoman of the Alaska Center for Climate Assessment & Policy at the University of Alaska Fairbanks said that winter storms over five weeks obliterated thin ice that had formed since December.
Wind blew ice to Russian beaches in the west and to the south side of Norton Sound south of Nome but left open water all the way to Chukchi Sea north of the Bering Strait.”

The toughest boss in the history of the presidency was probably LBJ. I don’t give an FF if Klobuchar was exacting to the point of unfairness. She should highlight the drive by delivery story. People hate insurance companied.

Isn’t it amazing how many presidents have had missing or alcoholic or abusive fathers? Including Reagan, Clinton, Obama, and even Trump.
I have a friend whose father was an alcoholic, and way back in the early 90s she told me she recognized the signs of an ACOA (adult child of alcoholic) in Clinton. His behavior with Monica Lewinsky and other women could be part of that pattern.

Could you post the link again that iirc you shared regarding how it can unintentionally but really hurt POC emotionally to listen to white folks retelling their own stories of becoming more aware of prejudice? I want to forward that to a coworker, plus some of what Aleta has linked.

@chopper: Maybe you can discount the importance of the Voting Rights Act and other civil rights legislation in looking at LBJ but I can’t.

@Barbara:
It isn’t that LBJ didn’t do some very good things that will resonate for a long time, he did and we benefit from them today and should for a long time to come.
He also did some very horrible things that were unnecessary and cost a lot of lives, many of them of people that many of us still living knew. He’s not alone in that but many dislike that he doesn’t get some disrespect for the horrible things and respect for the good. They don’t always balance out for everyone, this bad that cost lives and the good that save them.
