And now it’s over, thankfully. I didn’t see if he shook hands with Pence and Pelosi or just bugged out. Now getting ass-kissed by Rethugs up the aisle. “Great speech! Great speech! Fantastic! Amazing job!”
@zhena gogolia: Thank you. Rush did not look that much at death’s door to me … Patience, grasshopper.
Weirdly, he looked kind of youthful in some of the footage, and a genuine smile. Like what he might have been like if he did not go down the ugly path he chose.

Gretchen Whitmer is giving a hell of a good response speech. Really good. Talked about the president’s dishonesty for a second, then off to the good things Democratic governors are doing, about a 13-year-old kid in MI who got tired of potholes on his street, so he took a bucket of dirt and filled them in. More effective than anything Mitch McConnell has done.
Serious question: are members of Congress required by any sort of law or rule to sit there and put up with being harangued and lied about and insulted? The SOTU is completely pointless anyway, but it would have been a nice statement if some or all of the Democrats either didn’t show or walked out en masse. Fuck Trump and everything he says and does.
And as a former (?) opiate addict, the painkillers will be far less effective for him.

Mnemo@ 121: I don’t claim to be perfect, I admit I enjoyed your comment.
On the subject of psychotropic meds, I was disappointed to see that Trump’s handlers appear to have found a good cocktail for him.
Trump still sniffed a bit and garbled s couple of words, but by and large, he was appropriately behaved. He was serious, stuck to the teleprompter, no ad libs.
This is alarming to me, people could fall for this act.
@Heywood J.: Tim Ryan of all people walked out, I wish more of them would have.
Matt Duss, a foreign policy advisor for Bernie Sanders took the time to criticize Nancy Pelosi for ripping up Trump’s speech because she applauded too much during Trump’s speech. I’ll be elated if Sanders loses.
I assume it’s because they’re all famous as gunmen.
Davy Crockett was not a Republican. The party didn’t exist back then. He was a Whig, whose signature issues were support for poor settlers on the frontier being threatened by land sharks, and support for the American Indians that Jackson wanted removed. No points for guessing what side of these two issues Trump and his idiot base would fall on.
Wyatt Earp was indeed a Republican. His most famous accomplishment was the shootout at the O.K. Corrall, the cause of which was that… the Clantons wouldn’t surrender their guns as required by the law when entering the city limits. No points for guessing how well today’s Republicans would view that, either.
Trump was just chewing mindless Stephen Miller word salad about “American heroes.”

That’s good news about Tim Ryan. Good man. Too bad more didn’t follow his example and leave the putsch early on.
I’ve had my fill of Sanders’ schtick too, but I think his traction comes from ventilating the same anger that Trump did. It will be interesting to see who his supporters migrate to if he doesn’t get the nomination. I’ll vote for whoever it ends up being, but I’m really hoping it’s Warren.
I did get a kick out seeing how poorly Diamond Joe’s “poke ’em in the chest and tell ’em to vote for someone else” tactic ended up working. Electability!

The pretty blond lady and her TV-ready towhead children get their dad back early, while all the regular military families are treated like dirt and live in horrible conditions on some bases because the money to fix schools and housing got stolen for the border wall that blows over in high winds and has to have big holes for flash flood water to flow through.
And he’s laying on the God-bothering with a trowel. Just ewww
ETA and it’s finally over, thank Dog. The WaPo lady said Nancy Pelosi is tearing up her copy of the speech as it ends. Good for her.
Avalune
@Ruviana: He does and it’s infuriating that entertainment nonsense gets injected into every solemn or dignified event. Oh hey you are here because one of our people ran over your dead kid? Guess who is behind the curtain! Do you wanna meet your son’s killer!!!! F him. Just F him.

And when Trump launches into Stephen Miller’s high-flown rhetoric it is awful—like a junior high school kid’s entry in the VFW’s annual “Salute to America” essay contest.

What a shit show.

And now it’s over, thankfully. I didn’t see if he shook hands with Pence and Pelosi or just bugged out. Now getting ass-kissed by Rethugs up the aisle. “Great speech! Great speech! Fantastic! Amazing job!”

@Mary G:
I’d wager that God feels the same.
Avalune
@Jeffro: That was hilarious

@zhena gogolia: Thank you. Rush did not look that much at death’s door to me … Patience, grasshopper.
Weirdly, he looked kind of youthful in some of the footage, and a genuine smile. Like what he might have been like if he did not go down the ugly path he chose.

@Steeplejack:
I couldn’t watch, but I’m learning from twitter that it was Fred Guttenberg, a father of a Parkland victim, who was ejected for yelling when Drumpf said something about protecting the Second Amendment. I also see them saying that Pelosi tore up her copy of the speech?

@?BillinGlendaleCA: Imagine how the trowel feels.
Obvious Russian Troll
@Kent: I assume he’s under treatment, though (presumably since before he announced he had cancer). It might not have been that obvious before.
I seriously hope that he sees the light and makes meaningful amends for all the awful shit he’s said over the years. Fat fucking chance that’s gonna happen, though.

@Elizabelle:
Yeah, he looks better than I’ve ever seen him.

Here’s how Limbaugh looked:

@zhena gogolia: that’s awesome. Fred, you are an inspiration to us all and our best thoughts are with you both for your loss and for your activism.

I get the feeling that Stephen Miller and his Nazi friends were major contributors to this speech.
I am very much reminded of Ohler’s drug-addled Hitler, late in his career.

Do you guys think Trump knows where Michigan is located?

@Cheryl Rofer: I love it.
“Words, words, words.”
Have never seen that before. (And she was enduring the ovation for Rush; grimly amused look on her face; did not appear to be looking in his direction.)

Everybody watch this ad, it is so brilliant!!!!!

Yes, Limbaugh looked like he lost a some weight — that is what terminal cancer patients do, he’ll be losing more shortly.
He also had a completely different affect — quiet and scared. The bombast and arrogance are gone. Heh.
Heywood J.
Too bad about Rush Limbaugh’s terminal karma.

No idea about Annie Oakley.

@Chris:
Jesus, adjust your snarkmeter!
Trump was just chewing mindless Stephen Miller word salad about “American heroes.”

Thanks to everyone who watched and posted so I didn’t have to. I just watched the highlights on my local news. I can’t believe the SOTU was turned into a beer hall campaign rally. ?

Did you catch Trump’s handshake with Putin? He pulled his dominance shit? How do you think he had to pay for that later? /
I loved that the faces of “wavering” Republicans were displayed one by one.

@Tazj:
