There’s so much competition in the Wingnutosphere, they need to specialize…

On the wingnut beer story: Wingnut Taps Brewery, Brewery Taps Out.
Piss in cans and sell them to the suckers, they’ll buy and slurp them up! Tell them that some cans have codes in the bottom of them that can be redeemed for NFTs of TFG humping the flag, and then don’t put in any codes.
On the cat front at the Manatee abode… a neighbor came over and wanted to know if I had found a home for Gigi yet (nope, she was out back playing with Chuckie). She told me that someone she works with had their kitty pass away (old girl at 17) and was looking for a grown but young cat. She told them about Gigi and they are interested in giving her a home. My neighbor says that she’s a cat lover, has lots of money and a huge home loaded with “cat stuff” for her to enjoy. I told her that Gigi has been treated for fleas and has a vet appointment in early July (they use the same vet we do so cool!) so they will take that over for us.
I will hear back on Monday so we are excited to be homing another stray cat here in Brookings! 😎

All this fuss over Dylan. I’ve been following her for some time and she’s such a sweetheart. It doesn’t make a bit of sense.

not sure even selling the product is needed. all the rw grift seems to be about about is elevating your profile to the point where the machinery starts paying you

The sheer effort the wing-nuts have to put forth to find things to be enraged about must be exhausting. I just cannot fathom working that hard for stuff that effects them not.
I mean, I get it, that’s how their grifts happen, but jeez, I would think anything would be better than having to trawl for outrage every day – that’s gotta shorten the life-span. No wonder none of these people smile.

The mention of video games is interesting given how saturated with Trumpy wingnut culture the world of video games is– at least certain kinds of video games. The Call of Duty fans.
Matt McIrvin
… But I guess the only people old enough for video games per se to be moral panic material are now in Fox’s core demographic.
Frank Wilhoit
@Matt McIrvin: It’s even worse. The tell is the use of the word “Communist/Communism”. That only hits with people whose formative political experience was Joe McCarthy. They’re talking to people Grassley’s age, McConnell’s age, Murdoch’s age. How are there so many of them?
Matt McIrvin
@Frank Wilhoit: The lifespan of people who make it past youth and middle age alive is quite long these days (though COVID made a dent, I suppose)… and these people have the highest voter turnout in society, which increases their political strength.
Matt McIrvin
@Frank Wilhoit: …also, yelling about Communism actually hits with some younger immigrant groups with bad experiences with Communist states, like Venezuelans and some Southeast Asians.

I’ll turn 70 next year, and my sense is that my generation is the last one that didn’t grow up with video games or at least D&D.
So yeah, this is aimed at people old enough to be on Medicare.
@Frank Wilhoit:
How about Reagan versus the Evil Empire in the 1980s? I was 35 when the Berlin Wall fell, but someone who was 20 then would have heard all the Reaganaut anti-Communist rhetoric throughout their teens, complete with all the stuff about El Salvador and Nicaragua.
So I’d say the market for the current reprise of that rhetoric is early 50s and up.
ETA: Also what Matt said about Venezuelan immigrants and the like.
Enhanced Voting Techniques
@Matt McIrvin: I wouldn’t blame that on the video games. Hollywood been glamorizing Nazis for a long time and even the histories of WW2 were distorted because they let the German generals write it.

I think the multi millionaire Fox news anchors are plugging into and exploiting something very real, which is that the children and grandchildren of conservatives in conservative parts of the country are NOT doing well (especially the boys) – that’s real. The problem is conservatives refuse to take any responsibility or look for causes or improve anything in their own communities so they blame liberals, gay people, colleges, young women who do better in school than young men do, black people and immigrants.
Baud
@Kay:
IMHO, “causing” is the more accurate term. Conservative culture requires the sacrifice of self-harm for thr promise of status.
Kay
@Baud:
Agreed. I don’t think people are aware yet how much “don’t go to college” has taken hold in conservative places. I think it’s going to be a disaster for their kids, broadly. This isn’t “take an apprenticeship or go to community college” – this is “a couple of years of half ass ‘homeschooling’ and then go work for a roofer”.
eversor
@Matt McIrvin:
They hate video games as well. Case in point the old Mortal Kombat featured women in sex doll costumes and bare chested men or men in pajamas. It always looked sort of silly.
In the current one they put armor on all the ninjas, put a shirt on the men, and amored up all the women. So Mortal Kombat has gone woke. This is despite the fact that the women will shake their tits and ass at you before you see an xray version of your bones and organs being shattered and they pull off your head with your spinal chord dangling about will they jump and bounce their tits laughing.
Street Fighter is Japanese so all the women in it are very sexualized but Capcom looked about and decided to upgrade their characters, game has been around for 40 years. Now the men have shirts and beards, the horror. Also the women lost the sexy skirts and dresses and are now in full “I see camel toe!” tights. This was also met with outrage, despite the fact that it’s more sexually graphic than ever before they just aren’t in skirts and ass crack booty tights. Also for some reason beards are bad cause gray. There was an odd moment of hate for desexualizing the women cause not in a skirt, while also being mad at the women cause pussy lips. It was utterly insane for most of us as Street Fighter has always just been a stereotype shit show but the game play is great and most of us just went “LOL Japan!” and had a blast playing it. It’s not worth making political. Also some of the characters are officially gay now. But if you didn’t get that Vega, a six foot seven scrawny ass Spainyard who wore a face mask to protect his beautiful face, had a rocking three foot pony tail, sipped wine, and gave women roses was straight up gay in the 90s you’re a bit of an idiot. He also wore ankle tights and danced about in booties. How is he more gay now?
This happens over and over and over again. Such and such game has gone woke. When really, they didn’t. There’s still all the tits, ass, violence, gore, murder, but rendered in better detail. They just wanted to make people look like badasses, not just shirtless juiced up men or women in fuck me skirts. Which you know, sort of makes sense, and everyone is still sexy so why so mad? Ryu has a beard, wears a shirt (tied around his waist) and I can’t see up Chun Li’s skirt but she has a camel toe, the woke has come for my game where I beat people to a pulp. No rational person would go that route.
It’s fucking non stop with “gamers” on this. Most of us who grew up with all this realized it was all a fantasy and that women and men do no actually look like that. That try how hard you may your ass is not shooting blue fire out of your hands. And that silly anit black and anti homosexual depections of people were just a quirk of Japan. None of these things where the key component of having fun playing a game.
But now there is a massive fucking shit show between those of us who really just loved the game, quirks and all, and want to pay it with our friends. And those who are mad that 40 years later Capcom updated their character art.

@lowtechcyclist: but that age group should be suspicious of Russia not fawning over it. Bush’s trusting Putin and McCain’s quip about “I see KGB” really hit the mark IMO. I do not understand the older generation’s complete rollover on this and I thought the communism panic was overblown at the time. I am 59. Overblown in a way. It was tyranny and stupid and deadly. The communism itself was a pretty dream that wasn’t what was really going on.

@OzarkHillbilly
Haven’t had a beer of any sort in decades. Various brew memories:
Back when the drinking age was 21 in PA and 18 in NY there was a funky tavern in the teeny hamlet of Pond Eddy, NY, just across the Delaware River, which had something like 16 different imported beers on tap. Spaten, arriving in a tall glass with a wedge of lemon impaled on the edge, was a favorite.
Closer to home at the time in the Poconos, seismometer pens from there to Timbuktu must have wiggled at the uproar when the closest place raised the price of a glass of draft from a dime to 15 cents. Pitchers went up from two bucks to $2.50.
Never have had a Bud Light nor, for that matter, a Budweiser. PBR or Molson Ale (bottles, not cans,
and by the case as no supermarket sales back then) were the primary affordable choices at the local distributor for us impoverished youth.
Still distributor beer sales only, IIRC, when moved to the Reading area. That distributor, though, also bottled and sold on site its own branded soda, which was awesome. Although the chartreuse of the lemon-lime almost glowed in the dark.
When lived in St. Paul there was a beer warehouse which one could drive through, jump out to pick what one preferred, get back in the car and pay at the exit.
Step-father would inform me “There’s beer in the fridge in the basement if you want” when I visited. Rheingold (insert Charlie Brown “Aughh!” here). Same six-pack went untouched for FSM only knows how many years,

@kalakal: I quit alcohol 20 years ago, but back then Boddingtons exported a ‘pub draft’ that I recall being quite good. I was a huge fan of cask conditioned ‘real ales’ when I lived in London.
There’s even a couple of decent NA bitters now from the UK. Nanny State makes one. I damn near cried when I had one abt 5 years ago on a trip to Europe. Hadn’t tasted something like that in 15 years (mostly it was Becks NA then. The explosion of quality IPAs with 0.5% or even 0.0 now is making me happy).

@eversor I think they just hate change in any respect. I remember when the 1989 Batman came out, all the boomers whining that “it wasn’t like the TV show” (It was much closer to the comic than the TV show ever was). These people have been the ones who controlled taste for literally decades: Look how Christmas is stuck in time about 1952 (including an awful lot of songs from the 1930s 40s). Look how many radio stations got stuck in songs from the 60s/70s.
The world is moving on and their taste isn’t the be all and end all anymore, and they hate it,.

@Whomever: Speaking of which, the local “classic rock” station (part of the iHeart conglomerate) was playing a Hendrix song yesterday.
From 53+ years ago.
In 1970, stations would have been laughed off the air for playing songs from 1917.
It’s lazy and crazy and ridiculous.
Yeah, Hendrix was great. How about some great guitar rock from right now once in a while??
One of the things I really miss about not living in Ohio anymore is not hearing WYSO and similar decent radio stations. Radio in the DC area is a wasteland, and has been for a very long time. (WRNR was great, but was about a 50W station in Annapolis that didn’t reach NoVA with any consistency. They seem to be an online / app station now.)

@rikyrah:
It absolutely could be, but where I live it’s hard to blame black women for keeping their sons down because there are almost no black women, so they blame young white women who work harder and do better than the boys at school. But they don’t attribute it to hard work. They attribute it to “special treatment” of the girls, caused by liberals.
We have a meaningful, visible Hispanic population so they blame them too, but not in academics- in sports. They’re not actually recent immigrants- many of them are 2nd and 3rd generation, but they lump them in with “immigrants” (who they hate). They’re mad that the football team (now) has lots of Hispanic players. The anger at others just never ends but they do nothing to improve the prospects for their own boys in the community or at school. Instead they just tell the boys it’s all “rigged” and they shouldforget about school.
It’s going to be a disaster.

@Kay: To be fair, there are a lot of jobs that really should not need a college degree and still pay good money. I don’t know about roofer’s helpers, but plumbers, electricians, welders, mechanics etc. do very well. The jobs take training – either apprenticeship or tech school or JC or otherwise, but college level academics are not necessary. The last company I worked for has been partnered with a training firm for various production skills – electrical, mechanical, etc. The job offers they post only require a HS diploma or GED, and they are in the 80K range. Even the homeschooled guy could get in if he could pass the GED, and the people trained by the on-site company get a leg in the door.
Then again, this is CA, not a red state.
