Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Oh FFS you might as well trust a 6-year-old with a flamethrower.

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Books are my comfort food!

Tide comes in. Tide goes out. You can’t explain that.

Compromise? There is no middle ground between a firefighter and an arsonist.

We still have time to mess this up!

“But what about the lurkers?”

Welcome to day five of every-bit-as-bad-as-you-thought-it-would-be.

How any woman could possibly vote for this smug smarmy piece of misogynistic crap is beyond understanding.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

Jesus watching the most hateful people claiming to be his followers

This fight is for everything.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

Stop using mental illness to avoid talking about armed white supremacy.

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

The arc of the moral universe does not bend itself. it is up to us to bend it.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

The desire to stay informed is directly at odds with the need to not be constantly enraged.

Early Morning Open Thread: Food Pr0n Gone wRong

I try not to get all judge-y about what other people choose to do for entertainment, because there is no room for skeletons in my closets (basement, attic, garage, or shed) given all the hoarded craft supplies & collectibles I’ve stashed away. But has the economy really improved so much that people are going to spend $350 on a dedicated cake decorating stenciler?

Are there really enough cake-worthy occasions in the average American household to require spending a week’s minimum-wage salary to decorate them adequately?

Could we have inadvertently discovered the cause of the “obesity epidemic” that all the kewl media kids are talking about?

And aren’t there better ways to spend a sunny spring Sunday?

Cranking the J.B’s. Forgot how much I loved this album:

Also, since you obviously have no life since you are here on a Saturday night, go fill out some petitions to the right for causes that interest you. It helps pay the bills here and helps your cause.

Saturday Night Open Thread

No. I don’t care about the big dinner in DC. All the people on my twitter feed acting all star crossed are kind of nauseating, too.

Also, I just realized I have lived here for going on six weeks and I do not know what channel CNN is. In fact, I basically have stopped watching television altogether except for sports and a few specific shows (Chuck, the Pacific, and Treme, with an occasional Dog Whisperer or Frontline or Bill Maher). I didn’t realize how much I relied on it for background noise, but now I have wind chimes and birds. I’m much more relaxed and in a better mood (not that you can tell).

Also, right now I am about to make a lime daquiri the size of Dallas and then sit on the porch admiring the yard while the rain storm hits.

*** Update ***

Everyone go read Digby. Because I f-ing said so.

I’m Spent

The lawn and the edge trimmer just kicked my butt.

I may have to wait until tomorrow to clean the inside of the house, unless I catch a second wind.

BTW- I’m goingto build a compost heap, and i was wondering if you all had some experiences in the past that I might want to avoid. I intend to put it in the back under some evergreens. Mainly it will be for lawn trimmings, dandelion corpses, leaves, pine needles, and of course anything I don’t want to put down the disposal. Any suggestions on what I should build? Should drainage be a concern?

Grass to cut, have to edge the sidewalks, clean the house, pot the begonias, and there is a town yard sale. Don’t expect to see much of me today.
