Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Bark louder, little dog.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

Weird. Rome has an American Pope and America has a Russian President.

Too little, too late, ftfnyt. fuck all the way off.

If ‘weird’ was the finish line, they ran through the tape and kept running.

Let there be snark.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

Republicans cannot even be trusted with their own money.

Republicans: slavery is when you own me. freedom is when I own you.

The unpunished coup was a training exercise.

President Musk and Trump are both poorly raised, coddled 8 year old boys.

If a good thing happens for a bad reason, it’s still a good thing.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

This blog will pay for itself.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

Trump should be leading, not lying.

Let the trolls come, and then ignore them. that’s the worst thing you can do to a troll.

If you thought you’d already seen people saying the stupidest things possible on the internet, prepare yourselves.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

We can’t confuse what’s necessary to win elections with the policies that we want to implement when we do.

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

The world has changed, and neither one recognizes it.

Thursday Night Open Thread

I can’t believe how much I am enjoying the Life series. And I actually think Oprah as narrator is kind of great, when I didn’t know how I would feel about it before.

Two quick questions: picked up a bunch of cypress mulch to do some yardwork this week-end. It was only the cocoa bean that is harmful to dogs and pets, right?

I need some indoor plants that are low maintenance and not harmful to cats. Any suggestions?

Open Thread: Thursday Night Menu

Take it away, Bad Horse’s Filly:

It has been a whirlwind week and Thursday took me by surprise. But no worries, I figured it out soon enough to dig up a recipe. Someone requested slow-cooker recipes a few weeks back, so I thought I’d do one of those this Thursday. Brunswick Stew is an old family favorite. I think my mom cut it out of the newspaper….in the 60’s!….and still has the original copy. There may even be on old Dear Abby column next to it. It is surprisingly good, even though it has lima beans. I hate lima beans, rates right up there with Brussels sprouts for me (sorry JeffreyW), but I’ve never even thought about eliminating them from this recipe. I’ve always been afraid it would alter the great flavor, so I just eat around them. Granny Smith apples were on sale this week, so Cinnamon Apple Cake it had to be.

On the board tonight:

__
1. Brunswick Stew
__
2. Corn Bread
__
3. Tossed Salad
__
4. Cinnamon Apple Cake

Recipes and shopping list at the link, as always.

I’m sitting here after dinner, about to have a glass of wine, thinking about what I would do with my all my money if I had millions of dollars. You know what isn’t on the list?

Whine about how much I pay in taxes. Can someone please “punish” me by throwing me in a higher tax bracket? Pretty please? Hell, I’ll take the highest tax bracket you got if I get the kind of money you need to make to be in it. Punish me. Give me your best shot. Really put the screws to me.

I’m in the Taj Mahal of auto mechanic waiting rooms (where I have been for several hours) having my annual inspection, getting a tune-up, and having an axle/cv joint/I’m not sure what replaced on the Subaru, and I have to say- dropping a grand on your car is a lot easier when you can sit and surf the web and drink coffee in comfort than it is sitting in a dingy waiting room twiddling your thumbs. Every waiting room should have wireless.

Ending One Myth

This post is in: Excellent Links, Teabagger Stupidity

Great catch by Digby in the Tea Partier poll I talked about last night:

Here’s an interesting factoid that tracks with my intuition about these people: they blame George W. Bush and Wall Street far less for the economic situation than the rest of the country does. They hold Obama and congress mostly responsible. But then, if you listen to wingnut gasbags and FOX news crazies all day, that’s what you would think.

Any illusions that these people are angry at Wall Street or big business needs to be dispensed with ASAP. They don’t blame the money people at all.

88% of them think the government’s stimulus program has either had no impact on the economy or made it worse.

Of course they don’t. This is just a Republican operation, plain and simple, and you’ll watch the tea partiers go to bat for their Republican and Wall Street masters the next couple of months as we try to pass Financial reform.

For chrissakes- the tea party idea came from Rick Santelli- a broker. Anyone who thought these guys were mad at Wall Street was engaging in magical firebagger thinking, and some of us told you that from the get-go.

Not the night for the Pens.

Just got a call from Tammy, and I will be dogsitting Sam from Friday through Monday, so I should have lots of pictures and videos of the four dogs going nuts.

Also, don’t forget Radio Kaos streamed live at 9 central/10 eastern.

And tomorrow is tax day. So get your stuff mailed in if you already have not.
