Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

Too little, too late, ftfnyt. fuck all the way off.

Fundamental belief of white supremacy: white people are presumed innocent, minorities are presumed guilty.

Innocent people do not delay justice.

“The defense has a certain level of trust in defendant that the government does not.”

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Beware of advice from anyone for whom Democrats are “they” and not “we.”

When they say they are pro-life, they do not mean yours.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

Nothing says ‘pro-life’ like letting children go hungry.

“When somebody takes the time to draw up a playbook, they’re gonna use it.”

Shut up, hissy kitty!

How stupid are these people?

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

You are so fucked. Still, I wish you the best of luck.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

GOP baffled that ‘we don’t care if you die’ is not a winning slogan.

We can’t confuse what’s necessary to win elections with the policies that we want to implement when we do.

It’s all just conspiracy shit beamed down from the mothership.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

The Supreme Court cannot be allowed to become the ultimate, unaccountable arbiter of everything.

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

My heart is inditing a good matter

It may take us a while to get this set up, and I have no idea how to get it set up! But I want to try to endow an Al Weisel Award For Internet Humor.

The Jon Swift blog was a ray of funny sunshine in a humorless cloudy world. And it’s the least we can do.

We’ll try to get something like an endowment set up soon. But in a world of short attention spans I wanted to get this up now.

Unbelievably Frustrating

I understand that as a blogger I can afford to take the long view on health care reform, while many members of Congress unquestionably have their career at stake over this one vote. Nonetheless I think that Representatives who have gotten spooked by bad HCR poll numbers are making a terrible mistake. It might help to argue like Josh Marshall does that vulnerable seats got killed the worst in 2002 1994 (inexplicably got the date wrong there). He’s certainly right, but dry logic has only so much impact on crisis days like today. These Reps need a heap of supportive phone calls from constituents.

This is crunch time. Please phone and make sure that your Representative will supports the current road map: pass the Senate bill, then resolve issues such as the excise tax with a reconciliation fix. Tomorrow may be too late.

Switchboard: (202) 224-3121.

Guide for first-timers here.

A predictable bit of stupidity…

This post is in: Open Threads, Good News For Conservatives

Perry wins a low turn-out Republican primary, so naturally one must rush into print the “Perry is a viable candidate for 2012” story. And of course these wankers were first out of the gate with this drivel:

typical Politico foolishness

It is a typical example of the foolishness one can read everyday at Politico. What I really like is the “any reporter” in the upper corner. No doubt. This is what one can expect to read from “any ‘reporter'” at this Pravda for the Beltway.

While this was their lead story this morning, it is safe to assume that it will not be the stupidest thing posted at Politico today. But still, it is a classic. The stupid of it just burns.

Cheers

New Southland tonight on TNT, for those of you who are interested (10 pm EST).

Also, I saw this smoothie on Good Eats last night, made one today, and it was delicious. Anyone have an estimate of how many calories are in it? Trying to regain my girlish figure (or at least acquire one that looks less like Rosie O’Donnell) after sitting on my ass for six weeks.

Halter’s first ad is up:

His website can be found here, and apparently he has raised close to 150k through ActBlue alone. According to the Great Orange Satan he officially filed, and I know he raised an ungodly amount through MoveOn, too. Here is our page for those of you who are so inclined:

Getting to 216 votes…

by Dennis G.|  March 2, 201010:29 am| 23 Comments

This post is in: Open Threads

As the HCR action turns to the House, the question of the week is can House Democrats get past 216 votes to pass the Senate HCR Bill as next step to passing HCR. On Wednesday President Obama will present his way forward on both the substance and the process for passing the damn bill. I suspect that he’ll ask the House to go first and then fix the Bill in Reconciliation as the final step.

So it is time to call Members of the House and get them on board to support P.T.D.B.

Taniel over at Campaign Diaries published a nice list of where the 39 NO votes for the House HCR Bill might line up with regard to a vote on the Senate Bill. These are all folks to call, especially the last 18 on the list.

Today President Obama is traveling to an event in the District of one of those Members.

It might also be worthwhile to call the DCCC (202-863-1500) and let them know that “NO” voters on HCR should not get DCCC support.

Cheers
