Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

These are not very smart people, and things got out of hand.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

The real work of an opposition party is to oppose.

Anne Laurie is a fucking hero in so many ways. ~ Betty Cracker

Human rights are not a matter of opinion!

“The defense has a certain level of trust in defendant that the government does not.”

Dear elected officials: Trump is temporary, dishonor is forever.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

I really should read my own blog.

“Facilitate” is an active verb, not a weasel word.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

I did not have this on my fuck 2025 bingo card.

The desire to stay informed is directly at odds with the need to not be constantly enraged.

When I was faster i was always behind.

Let me file that under fuck it.

Giving in to doom is how we fail to fight for ourselves & one another.

Cancel the cowardly Times and Post and set up an equivalent monthly donation to ProPublica.

To the privileged, equality seems like oppression.

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

God 0, Teammates 1-

I am not antagonistic towards religion, but it always irks me when people win sporting events and praise God. This year, the winners are gushing about their teammates and their coach. Makes more sense to me.

Congrats Pats. You shocked me, and it makes the Steelers loss so much more palatable.

Sorry for the dearth of posts this week-end. Spent all day Saturday at the library, and today I tackled a mountain of laundry and then prepped for the SuperBowl.

Quick Comments:

– U2 just did the best halftime show I remember.

– I am shocked- SHOCKED, by the halftime score.

– In the spirit of blogdom, I paid for Glenn Kinen’s banner. He should be ad free, soon, and I would recommend a visit. The folks at Protein Wisdom took care of mine, and I think it is high time I repay the favor.

Many, many profound thanks to the folks at the Libertarian Samizdata and to Damian Penny for the linkage. Those are two of the blogs that I check even when I have no time to be reading blogs, so this is a high honor indeed.

Sometime tomorrow I have some comments about the Ann Richards interview on Larry King, and blurb about why things ARE different in this last year, and some other stuff.

BTW- If you want another damn fine red wine (as good or better than Black Opal– depending on your tastes- FWIW, I had the Shiraz the other night and LOVED it), try Lindemans cabernet. I don’t know what the deal is, but these low budget Aussie reds have just been knocking my socks off lately, and I have not had one that I dislike.

Rabble has attacked and hacked Sgt. Stryker’s site. Probably some more ‘free speech’ advocates or college twinks with a narrow world view.

Thanks to Instapundit for pointing this out. Steve den Beste states:

Yes, the majority of Americans are descended from European immigrants. But those who came here were not the same as those who stayed behind. It was the slum dwellers who came; the “huddled masses yearning to be free”. It was the Irish tired of being starved, who abandoned Ireland and moved to a richer place, so that now there are more Irish living in the United States than in Ireland. It was the Dissenters, those whose religions subjected them to legal discrimination in England. It was the Jews, tired of pogroms. It was the Poles, the Czechs, the Italians, the Spaniards, the Swedes. It was Russians and Bulgarians and Greeks and Turks and Georgians. It was the peasants, abandoning the strict class structure of Europe which held them on the ground. It was the city dwellers, who worked 14 hour days in the mills for a pittance, until they died from brown lung. It was the racial minorities, who were routinely oppressed there, and even exterminated. And it was mostly the poor, the underclass, those who felt they were condemned to a life of misery, who seized the opportunity for a better chance and a new life.

That alone almost makes me cry.

You xenophobic, Pat Buchanon worshipping, “It’s not because they are from a country other than Europe” anti-immigration pukes better step back, and you better not start your crap with me.

I have insomnia, and the liner from Alan Keyes Is Making Sense is having a weird, hypnotic effect on me. If you have not heard the liner, it sounds like some hopped up top-40 DJ with a slightly raspy/nasal voice (you know the kind- the ones on the parts of the dial you ignore, where they say things like “Hot Rockin’, Hit Crankin’, 97 WLRX” and then play Madonna or something). At any rate, this DJ-like voice shouts out at every commercial break:

Alan Keyes is Making Sense! Stop yelling at the TV. He can’t hear ya!

Then you hear Alan Keyes chuckle.

It is, to say the least, unnerving, particularly when combined with copious amounts of the original green death Nyquil.

Ken Layne has the best two sentence description outlining the difference between Trekkies and those who may have seen the show once in a while:

I really don’t like most of the hundred or so Star Trek teevee shows and movies. Sure, I watched the first show as a kid, but it didn’t turn into a liability as an adult, if you catch my drift.
