I don’t know how to even begin to deal with quotes like this:
Right Wing blogger John Cole of Balloon Juice, who has described ‘Mohammed’ as a hero, while considering the masses of Iraqis cannon fodder, would like to know if I have changed my mind about Mohammed.
Apparently, ‘left wing’ blogger Mac Diva likes to put words in my mouth- I have never thought of Iraqi citizens as cannon fodder. IN fact, as I was in favor of the war, there is a firm argument to be made that I may care more about the Iraqi people than Mac, who would prefer they had remained under Hussein. Mac’s obvious response will be- “I think Hussein was a monster too, but war is worse.” Which, of course, means the Iraqis would have remained under Hussein. Regardless, I wouldn’t make that argument anyway- I am assuming Mac cares about the average Iraqi- I am not sure why she does not extend the same benefits to me, except that it helps to prop up the rhetorical straw men that are the foundation of her argument. It is easy to create an argument (albeit, a poor one) when you run on the basic premise that your political opponent is an evil hater.
Not content to leave it at this smear alone, Mac does some stream of consciousness editorializing about the young child Ali, who is now limbless because of an errant bomb:
Cole can continue trying to hoist the opportunist Mohammed onto a pedestal. I will continue to hope for Ali’s recovery.
Is the left this sick? Are they this blinded by their own hate? Can’t you celebrate what Mohammed has done, and still be hopeful for Ali’s recovery? I am. You should be able to do both, as well, Mac.
Are Democrats really not only the ‘Glass is half full’ party, but the ‘Glass is half full, too small to begin with, held by the wrong person, and I don’t like what is in it’ party?

I think the only way to deal with people like this is to shun them. I have seen numerous quotes from this Mac Diva person, and comments, and not one of them has any redeeming value or import beyond bitchiness for its own sake. So shun him (or her): don’t have his site on your links, or refer to anything they say on your blog, make as if they don’t exist. I fall back on my parents’ opinion: they are only doing the nasty things they do to get attention for themselves.

I was actually thinking along these lines earlier, and I believe it comes down to this:
Conservatives think liberals are wrong because they are misguided, and they pursue their wrong beliefs with ishy-gushy feelings and good intentions with no rational thought.
Liberals think conservatives are wrong because they are hateful and terrible and pursue their wrong beliefs to further their own selfish agendas of greed, oppression, etc.

I have never actuall visited Diva’s site, but have on a few occasions read some of the unintelligible drivel posted by him/her/it on other sites. Diva really, really is one dumb asshole, as indicated by the latest Diva posts in this thread. At times it seems as if the ability of any useless idiot like Diva to pollute the blogosphere with their lunatic ravings is the biggest downside to this new form of communications.

See, John, you’re missing the big picture: Mohammed performed what is, in the land of leftist identity politics, the worst possible crime. That is, he “betrayed” his tribe/group/people/whatever. He decided that his interests were better aligned elsewhere, and for that, he is derided by the left as a craven opportunist, an “Uncle Tom.”
Now, contrast that with “martyr” Rachel Corrie. Rachel also betrayed her tribe. Why she is hailed by the left while Mohammed is derided is left as an exercise for the reader.

Going into a discussion on the mental mechanics of (various) liberals might well entail starting a new blog site. However, in Mac’s case there is a example: your six-year old sees the shiny new Power Ranger and wants it NOW. The child can’t comprehend your finances (and effort it takes) nor your ordering of priorities (food in the fridge, bills to be paid). Such things are BEYOND their reasoning abilities.
Your response of NO is an assault on their happiness (re-world view). You don’t ‘love’ them, and you’re a total meanie.
What should you do? Drag them away from the immediate object of their desire and continue to (patiently) educate them to the realities of the world around them.
If you’re successful, the child will grow up to be a responsible adult. If you fail, you get a Mac; a shallow-minded overgrown child.
Teach your children well.

Anyone who cares to look at his site (PossumBlog) can see that Terry Oglesby’s e-mail address is [email protected]. The two comments on this thread signed “Terry” that call ‘mac diva’ a nitwit, moron, creator of drivel, and asshole, came from [email protected]. I imagine that’s a completely different Terry, most likely one with the last name Hinshaw (duh!). If Terry Oglesby had a sock puppet, he would surely call it something other than ‘Terry’, since the whole point of sock puppets is evasion of responsibility. All in all, though I don’t entirely approve of his language, I think Terry H. has ‘mac diva’ pegged.
