Too bad he wants to be a poltician…

Well, it wasn’t a bad movie, but I don’t think Penn did anything that would warrant labeling him “best” ever.
Bacon did just as good a job.
Russ
A complete asshat, yes, but a brilliant actor.
Which only goes to show that people ought not to presume that brilliance in one field of expertise translates into overall brilliance.
Think “idiot savant”.

He was just channelling DeNiro. Robbins was channelling Michael J. Pollard.
Ry
He’s better in “21 Grams” and in “21 Grams” Del Toro is better.
The shot were he’s leaning over his daughter in the morgue bothers me, it’s his seocond crying scene in five minutes and this is understandable for a sad movie, but it seems like it’s just for him to get the Oscar.
In “21 Grams” there is no let’s-get-an-Oscar shot and the form is much more dynamic.

Let’s not forget Sean Penn’s hilarious turn as Pacino’s coked up lawyer in Carlito’s Way…
