Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Shut up, hissy kitty!

The way to stop violence is to stop manufacturing the hatred that fuels it.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

“But what about the lurkers?”

It’s possible to be a liberal firebrand without crapping on the party.

My right to basic bodily autonomy is not on the table. that’s the new deal.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

No one could have predicted…

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

Bad people in a position to do bad things will do bad things because they are bad people. End of story.

Their shamelessness is their super power.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

Today’s gop: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

I swear, each month of 2025 will have its own history degree.

You would normally have to try pretty hard to self-incriminate this badly.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

The desire to stay informed is directly at odds with the need to not be constantly enraged.

So very ready.

I would try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

Not loving this new fraud based economy.

Every reporter and pundit should have to declare if they ever vacationed with a billionaire.

Red Sox Fans, You Owe Me

by John Cole|  October 27, 20047:10 am| 6 Comments

This post is in: Sports

I hate the Yankees, which makes me automatically root for the Red Sox every year (my Pirates are eliminated from the playoffs every year a week after pitchers and catchers report). At any rate, you Red Sox fans owe me.

After they were blown out by the Yankees in game three of the ALCS, I told my mom:

“I am done with them. They are a bunch of overpaid losers. I wash my hands of them, and I refuse to root for them any more. I already root for enough losers, I don’t need the Red Sox on my resume as well.”

They are 6-0 since.

The Investigation Begins

Tom Maguire notes our intrepid reporters are beginning to pull back from the initial scary assertions that has made Kerry a bombastic liar for the past two days.

Maguire concludes:

We have a hint as to the timing of the ongoing investigation – evidence that the explosives were not at the site will only become available to the Times after Nov. 3.

I have never seen the media this in bed with anyone before. Ever. And I remember the Reagan hating. I remember the made up stories regarding Bush 1 being out of touch. This is just shameful.

I am simply stunned by the behavior of the Democrats- the charges Kerry is making on the campaign, and the utter complicity of the media, who I have never seen be so in the tank for a candidate in my entire life. This always makes me feel better:

They said that saving Grenada from terror and totalitarianism was the wrong thing to do – they didn’t blame Cuba or the communists for threatening American students and murdering Grenadians – they blamed the United States instead.

But then, somehow, they always blame America first.

When our Marines, sent to Lebanon on a multinational peacekeeping mission with the consent of the United States Congress, were murdered in their sleep, the “blame America first crowd” didn’t blame the terrorists who murdered the Marines, they blamed the United States.

But then, they always blame America first.

When the Soviet Union walked out of arms control negotiations, and refused even to discuss the issues, the San Francisco Democrats didn’t blame Soviet intransigence. They blamed the United States.

But then, they always blame America first.

When Marxist dictators shoot their way to power in Central America, the San Francisco Democrats don’t blame the guerrillas and their Soviet allies, they blame United States policies of 100 years ago.

But then, they always blame America first.

The American people know better.

They know that Ronald Reagan and the United States didn’t cause Marxist dictatorship in Nicaragua, or the repression in Poland, or the brutal new offensives in Afghanistan, or the destruction of the Korean airliner, or the new attacks on religious and ethnic groups in the Soviet Union, or the jamming of western broadcasts, or the denial of Jewish emigration, or the brutal imprisonment of Anatoly Shcharansky and Ida Nudel, or the obscene treatment of Andrei Sakharov and Yelena Bonner, or the re-Stalinization of the Soviet Union.

The American people know that it’s dangerous to blame ourselves for terrible problems that we did not cause.

They understand just as the distinguished French writer, Jean Francois Revel, understands the dangers of endless self- criticism and self-denigration.

He wrote: “Clearly, a civilization that feels guilty for everything it is and does will lack the energy and conviction to defend itself.”

With the election of Ronald Reagan, the American people declared to the world that we have the necessary energy and conviction to defend ourselves, and that we have as well a deep commitment to peace.

And now, the American people, proud of our country, proud of our freedom, proud of ourselves, will reject the San Francisco Democrats and send Ronald Reagan back to the White House.

Thank you very much.

Pre-emptive troll remarks: Yeah, I am a fascist. Blow me, stooge.

And just because I can:

Ultra-liberalism today translates into a whimpering isolationism in foreign policy, a mulish obstructionism in domestic policy, and a pusillanimous pussyfooting on the critical issue of law and order.

In the United States today, we have more than our share of the nattering nabobs of negativism.

I am starting to feel better already.

How To Steal an Election, Part One

by John Cole|  October 27, 20046:19 am| 2 Comments

This post is in: Democratic Stupidity

I guess the grand strategy of the Democrats is to create so much hostility and suspicion regarding this election that any outcome that does not lead to a Kerry victory will be unsatisfactory. Step one is the pre-emptive lawsuit. How does this work?

Simple- just file a lawsuit challenging every single law regarding the conduct of elections, and for extra flavor, claim racism as your basis on each one:

Democrats in Florida already are pursuing nine election-related lawsuits, accusing state election officials of conspiring to disenfranchise minority voters.

Led by the Florida Democratic Party, the People for the American Way, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees and the AFL-CIO, the lawsuits target, among others, Florida Secretary of State Glenda Hood, who was appointed by Republican Gov. Jeb Bush, President Bush’s brother.

The suits say Republican officials refused to count provisional ballots, improperly disqualified incomplete voter registrations, established overly restrictive rules to disproportionately hurt minority voters and actively sought to disenfranchise blacks.

Matt Miller, a spokesman for the Kerry campaign, said Republicans are “trying to scare people away from the polls.”

But Mrs. Hood’s spokesman, Alia Faraj, described the lawsuits as politically motivated, saying they were eroding public confidence in the election process by challenging “every single law we are following.”

One suit challenges a ruling by Mrs. Hood to throw out forms on which new voters had failed to check a box indicating whether they were U.S. citizens, and another argued that although only 17 percent of the voters in Broward County and 20 percent in Miami-Dade County were black, more than a third of the voter-registration forms that were determined to be incomplete and invalid in both counties involved black voters.

Assholes. The clear intent is to subvert the election process- and no matter how fair the election is, to claim it invalid. The last few days have made me change my mind. I am starting to almost hope Kerry wins so I can be an irresponsible flamethrowing asshole like the Democrats have been. It has to be liberating. You can say anything, charge your opponent with anything, and never have to be burdened with providing evidence, nor do they seem to have problems with their collective consciences.

No Kidding

Gee- almost the entire staff of Slate is voting for Kerry. Who would have guessed?

Now, if I could just figure out who the staff writers for the Village Voice, the Nation, the American Prospect, the Media Matters Staff, George Soros, and Theresa Heinz-Kerry intend to vote for, and I might be able to make up my mind.

I mean really- how ever am I supposed to figure out who David Brock, Atrios, and Oliver Willis are going to vote for?

Some Perspective for the Willfully Stupid

by John Cole|  October 26, 20049:39 pm| 44 Comments

This post is in: Democratic Stupidity

I am not willing to concede that we lost 380 tons of weapons (or failed to protect, or whatever), because I have seen no evidence to indicate ther even were in the depot when our soldiers got there. In fact, the BULK of the evidence leads a normal person to believe they had been moved after the IAEA inspection but before pour troops reached the site. Let’s add in some other facts:

– the two sources of the story, 60 Minutes and the NY Times (led by Jill Abramson), are not what I would call creedible sources when the issue is George Bush.

– the op-ed’s in today’s NY Times and the continued faux journalism (“Iraq Explosives Become Issue in Campaign“) demonstrate that not only do they have an interest in keeping this false story alive to defeat Bush, but that they have a monetary interest at stake.

– the information was ‘leaked’ to the NY Times by Al Abaradei, who Bush is opposing for a third term at the IAEA, in a rather clear act of politicking.

– the information was not even leaked- our own Iraqi Survey group reported there were no weaponks there a month after our troops initially inspected the site and found no weapons.

– the timing. This is nothing more than an attempted October surprise.

– the misinformation. The explosives in question would have been in bulk powder form, and not necessarily weaponized.

– even if our troops missed the explosives initially, the insurgency did not start for another 6-8 months after the Iraq Survey Group deemed there were no weapons present.

– There simply was no military action by the Iraqi military in the month period in between our troops hitting the depot and the Iraq Survey group. Remember, the Iraqi army ‘melted away.’

– Even if the explosives were there, you don’t just loot 380 tons of explosives through mob looting. This would have taken at least 40 special trucks and cranes. This couldn’t have been a group of Ba’athist sympatizers carrying televisions and a box of explosives under their arms, but rather a large scale operation.

It simply didn’t happen. Period.

But even if you belong to the Democratic kool-aid crowd, and you desperately want to believe this, I think a little perspective is necessary. Even if we did lose 380 tons of explosives (which we didn’t), that pales in comparison to the 400,000 tons we have confiscated and destroyed. For Democrats, maybe a visual aid or two will help. This is a picture of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69):

cvn74.gif

According to the Navy fact file about the Eisenhower, it is 1092 feet long and 252 feet wide. Fully loaded, as pictured, it weighs 97,000 (ninety-seven thousand) tons.

This is a picture of the an LCAC.

pel-lcac.gif

According to the Navy fact file, the LCAC is 87 feet 11 inches long, 47 feet wide, and fully loaded can weigh 170-182 tons. The LCAC is out 1 1/2 times the size of the small boat in the foreground of the carrier pictured above, so you have some perspective.

To date, we have confiscated/destroyed this many tons of weapons:

The Democrats are claiming (falsely, I believe) we have lost this many tons of explosives:

STFU, donks.

You know, even if Kerry wins, if I dedicate the same amount of willful ignorance and venom to ruining Kerry’s Presidency as the Democrats have done to Bush since day one, they are going to wish they had never won.

*** Update ***

To those of you in the comments claiming my bullets are dounterfactual, chew on this. And quit making shit up. You know- it is no surprise that the same people who were defending the Rather memos up until the moment even RATHER admitted they were frauds that think of course the Army and Bush screwed up here.

Another thing- while they think they are attacking Bush, you know who they are really shitting all over with these partisan attacks? Yep.

Off The Deep End

by John Cole|  October 26, 20048:20 pm| 3 Comments

This post is in: General Stupidity

Andy really has now officially shot all credibility:

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “The commander of the first unit into the area told CBS he did not search it for explosives or secure it from looters. ‘We were still in a fight,’ he said. ‘Our focus was killing bad guys.’ He added he would have needed four times more troops to search and secure all the ammo dumps he came across.” – CBS’ latest press release on the missing explosives. Four times more troops. But that would have meant doing it right.

Four times the troops would have been close to a million troops, which means not doing it at all. The commander’s point, my dim-witted friend, is that this was not his mission, and that it would have been impossible to accomplish. Not that he was undermanned.

Maybe there is going to be a draft if Kerry and his supporters all think like Sully. Of course, Sully has nothing to worry about in the event there is a draft.

Question- Did Andy lose his analytical skills, and thus became a Democrat? Or did the act of becoming a Democrat cause him to lose his analytical skills?

Hack, either way.
