Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

They don’t have outfits that big. nor codpieces that small.

A fool as well as an oath-breaker.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Human rights are not a matter of opinion!

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

Their shamelessness is their super power.

The real work of an opposition party is to hold the people in power accountable.

Anne Laurie is a fucking hero in so many ways. ~ Betty Cracker

“The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.”

I would gladly pay you tuesday for a hamburger today.

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

Let there be snark.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Tide comes in. Tide goes out. You can’t explain that.

Disagreements are healthy; personal attacks are not.

You come for women, you’re gonna get your ass kicked.

Innocent people do not delay justice.

Humiliatingly small and eclipsed by the derision of millions.

Find someone who loves you the way trump and maga love traitors.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

I am pretty sure these ‘journalists’ were not always such a bootlicking sycophants.

Too little, too late, ftfnyt. fuck all the way off.

Don’t Let The Door Hit You in the Ass

This post is in: General Stupidity

I see Andrew has officially endorsed Kerry, which means that the oak is finally lifted. He is officially irrelevant, and I hope the Democrats have fun defending his incoherency.

At any rate, what is funny is how Andrew announces it:

JOHN KERRY FOR PRESIDENT: The endorsement I once never thought I’d write. Here’s a free link, courtesy of TNR. I’m now headed to an undisclosed location.

You may never have thought it, but it was pretty clear to the rest of us for the past six months. Despite the fact that that you claim the war on terror is your most important concern, it boils down to your sex life. The moment Bush signaled he was in favor of the FMA, you came after him with both guns.

What was most amusing, however, was that you knew it would never pass, Bush knew it would never pass, and that Bush was in favor of civil unions. As a total DC insider, you knew it was something Bush had to say in order to shore up his base. But that was really it- from there the demonization of the entire GOP began in earnest.

The falsifications and fanciful thinking were a joy to read. The subtle insertions of phrases such as “Kerry is the real conservative” into supposedly sober analyses of Iraq were like easter eggs on DVD’s. I have to admit- the outright hysteria was fun to read, too. “Bush is trying to make me a second-class citizen- and put it into the Constitution!,” you would wail. Never mind that this was false- you are still free, to this date, to marry any woman you want. Just like every other male in the country.

At any rate, your transparent and shallow posturing was a joy to behold. It was so obvious that you reminded me of a young child playing hide-and-go-seek. Young children, being ego-centric and having little perspective of the world around them, when playing the game will often stand behind a 4 inch wide tree.

The tree, wide enough to obscure their vision, convinces the child that because he/she can’t see anyone or anything, he/she is clearly hidden. Adults watch this behavior and chuckle, knowing that one day the child will group up and understand his/her foolishness. Alas, in your case of arrested development, it may be too late for such hope.

Now off to your Coy Mistress, Sen. Kerry, and let us know how far you get with gay marriage.

By the way, just as an added extra aside, this is genius reasoning for someone whose ‘chief concern’ is the War in Iraq and the War on Terror:

I know few people enthused about John Kerry. His record is undistinguished, and where it stands out, mainly regrettable. He intuitively believes that if a problem exists, it is the government’s job to fix it. He has far too much faith in international institutions, like the corrupt and feckless United Nations, in the tasks of global management. He got the Cold War wrong. He got the first Gulf War wrong. His campaign’s constant and excruciating repositioning on the war against Saddam have been disconcerting, to say the least. I completely understand those who look at this man’s record and deduce that he is simply unfit to fight a war for our survival. They have an important point–about what we know historically of his character and his judgment when this country has faced dire enemies. His scars from the Vietnam War lasted too long and have gone too deep to believe that he has clearly overcome the syndrome that fears American power rather than understands how to wield it for good.

In other words, Kerry has been wrong on everything to date, but he can’t possibly get this one wrong. This reminds me of the old joke:

Two friends are watching a Western, when during a horse chase scene one friend looks over to his buddy and says “Betcha five bucks the horse falls here in a minute.”

His buddy pauses for a moment, thinks, and says “You’re on!”

Sure enough, the a few scenes later the lead character tries to have his horse jump a fallen log, but they fail to clear the log and take a tremendous spill.”

The loser of the bet reaches into his wallet and says, “Damnit! Here’s your five bucks.”

His friend laughs and says “I can’t take your money. I have seen this movie once before and I knew they were going to fall.”

The loser responds, “Once? I have seen it five times. I was convinced they would finally make the jump this time.”

Sure, Andy. National security is your number one concern.

A Failed October Surprise?

by John Cole|  October 26, 20045:50 am| 29 Comments

This post is in: Media

Yesterday, the NY Times splashed a rather sensational piece all over the front page, claiming that the coalition (chiefly the United States) had failed to secure 380 tons of high-grade explosives, and that they have subsequently disappeared. Like any normal human being, I was pissed. Now, it isbeginningto appear, not only did the NY Times give all the facts, but it appears that this may have been nothing more than a partisan hit piece eith nothing but old news and bad reporting.

Meltdown

Wow. I can’t believe how bad Lawrence O’Donnell broke down against John O’Neill. Although, if you have ever read the comments section at the Washington Monthly, Pandagon, or the Daily Kos, that is how the unhinged left argues. A conservative makes a statement, 40 leftists scream ‘liar’ or ‘brownshirt.’

If you want a classic example, check out this Ezra Klein post in which Ezra enligtens us that if the Democratic draft does become a reality, and Bush is re-elected, brave Ezra will dodge the draft. This is a great post for two reasons- it helps to give some insight into the mindset of the left, a group of people who swooned for 8 years over a draft-dodger and then decided the most important qualification to be President and basis for an entire general election was service in Vietnam. Except you aren’t allowed to question them on their service.

At any rate, check out Linda trying to have a civil conversation and get shouted down. Then think back to Mr. O’Donnell, who I will never listen to again. That’s the closest I have ever been to donating to the Swift Vets.

And remember kids- dissent is patriotic, and therefore, by extension, so is draft-dodging.

This post is in: Democratic Stupidity

Sometimes you read stuff like this, you are just so shaken by the audacity that you are at a temporary loss for words:

I’m still trying to understand why the clearest delineation between Republicans and Democrats comes down to the franchise – one side wants to restrict it, the other wants to expand it. Terrorism, war, jobs, healthcare – no difference between the parties exists as starkly as their view of your right to vote.

What brings on this statement? Why the fact that Republicans are playing the same game as the Democrats, and are putting place observers to make sure that only qualified voters vote. How dare they?

Personally, I don’t want to keep people from voting, but I damn sure want to make sure that only those who are qualified to vote are able to do so. While the Democrats want to pretend that this is still 1952 and that large portions of the population are being systematically denied the franchise, that is not the case. The case is that while one party may have the dubious history of voter intimidation in its history, another party has just as glorious a tradition of voter fraud. Any guesses which party that might be?

– Which party stole the election in 1960?

– Which party, whenever it is mentioned, has an aneurysm when it is suggested that voters should have to provide identification so they can prove who they really are?

– Which party has the tradition of LBJ’s legions of dead voting for them?

– Which party, in the last election, went to friendly courts (the judge, of course, was a former staff member of Dick Gephardt’s)to extend voting deadlines beyond legal hours in St. Louis, but only in friendly precincts?

– Which party distributed voter registration cards to thousands of illegal aliens in California?

– Which party distributed cigarettes to voters in Michigan in 2000?

All the Republicans I know ant a fair election in which everyone eligible to vote is able to vote. What we don;t want is the kind of bullshit the Democrats have been pulling since Tammany Hall. The Democrats think all they have to do is squeal ‘disenfranchisement’ and we will continune to turn a blind eye to their hijinks. Not anymore, Jesse.

The reason Democrats so love ‘provisional votes’ is because it offers another opportunity for malpractice and malfeasance. However, they don;t like extensions to make sure the military can vote. Just ask Ed Rendell.

So, if you want to vote, and you want to be part of the solution, do the following:

1.) Don’t commit a felony in states where it is illegal for felons to vote.
2.) Make sure you are registered to vote well before the election.
3.) Show up on election day at the precinct where you are supposed to vote.
4.) Bring your registration card and perhaps a photo ID.
5.) Have a working idea how to use the voting system. The ballots are published in newspapers, on display in the polling places, and get this- you can even ask for help.

That doesn’t sound too hard, does it? If you don’t think so, you are probably a Republican. At any rate, don’t play their game. Jesse and his crowd want you to think Bull Connor himself is standing in front of every polling place, trying to keep the man down.

Oh- and one more thing. There are going to be voting irregularities and problems on election day- there always are. This a human system, so there will be flaws. What we need to make sure is that the Democrats don’t have the opportunity to try and turn this into something it is not. Don’t let them pretend that minor incidents are the systematic disfranchisement of entire classes of people. They already have their lawyers and their marching orders on how to play the race game this election, so be vigilant.

Oh, and btw- here in WV, it is still against the law to buy liquor on election day. Anyone want to take a wild stab at why this is the case?

*** Update ***

One more thing. In Florida in 2000, the infamous ‘butterfly’ ballot that somehow screwed thousands of Democrats was designed by a Democrat. tHis ballot, for 2004, which makes voting for Bush/Cheney a bloody mess, is even worse:

ohio-butterfly2.jpg

The Cuyahoga County, Ohio butterfly ballot (above) provides an intuitive solution for Kerry voters: punching the blue box (item 6) directly across from the Democratic ticket in the butterfly ballot does indeed result in a vote for the Democratic candidates.

Voters for the Bush/Cheney ticket, however, are required to substitute logic for intuition by making sure to punch the red box (item 4) in the ballot; punching the green box (item 14) in the corresponding space next to the Republican ticket would not represent a vote for Bush/Cheney.

*** Update #2 ***

Kevin Holtsberry has more thoughts on the same issue.

*** Update #3 ***

Precisely my point. But when you are a Democrat like Jesse, the goal is to win by any means necessary, so this is simply not an issue.

Exactly, Bob

This post is in: War

Bob Herbert nails it:

Here’s George W. Bush’s problem. How does a president win re-election when all the news the voters are seeing is bad?

Polls show the president running even or slightly ahead of Senator John Kerry. But bad news is piling up like mounds of trash in a garbage strike, and that’s never good for an incumbent.

The war in Iraq is a mind-numbing tragedy with no end in sight. Dozens of Iraqi army recruits were slaughtered Saturday in one of the deadliest attacks yet against the Iraqi security forces. Yesterday an American diplomat was killed in a mortar attack near the Baghdad airport.

The latest horrific video to come out of the war zone shows the kidnapped British-Iraqi aid worker, Margaret Hassan, trembling, weeping and begging for her life. “Please help me,” she says. “This might be my last hours.”

American troops have fought valiantly, but cracks in their resolve are beginning to show. “This is Vietnam,” said Daniel Planalp, a 21-year-old Marine corporal from San Diego who was quoted in yesterday’s New York Times. “I don’t even know why we’re over here fighting.”

Here at home the stock market has tanked, in part because of record-high oil prices. The Dow Jones industrial average closed at its low for the year on Friday as world oil prices streaked ever higher. The cost of oil has jumped more than 75 percent in the past year. With the weather turning colder, the attention of homeowners – many of them voters – is being drawn to the price of home heating oil. What they’re seeing is not pretty.

Gee- I wonder who is responsible for the news? Why is it the unemployment rate is not mentioned more often. Why no mention of the tremendous gains in the economy over the past two years depsite what the country has been through (recession, 9/11, etc.). Travel and tourism still have not recovered, yet the economy grows. What about housing starts and durable goods orders? Consumer confidence? On and on and on.

Likewise, today we are greeted with two stories in Iraq, both of which I comment about below, but you have to almost google good news such as what Arthur Chrenkoff provides.

How much time will the talking heads spend today discussing the recent elections in Afghanistan, the outcome of which is now legitimate? Or the upcoming elections in Iraq?

John Stewart is right- the media is failing us. But it isn’t just Tucker Carlson and Paul Begala who should be blamed, and this is why, despite the daily fare from the media, that the election is as close as it is. What people are experiencing on a daily basis simply is not reflected in the headlines of our media. If things were as bad as they want us to believe, I would be voting for Kerry.
