Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires

Just because you believe it, that doesn’t make it true.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

Schmidt just says fuck it, opens a tea shop.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

In my day, never was longer.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

Let there be snark.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

Americans barely caring about Afghanistan is so last month.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Creationists crushed in Dover. Hoping to keep stupid alive even after they themselves are gone, the Dover board packed it into a small spaceship and sent it to Kansas.

I just hope the Indiana General Assembly takes the Dover defeat to heart. Certain Republicans in Indiana’s House of Representatives, including the Speaker of the House, Brian Bosma, want to introduce a bill that would require Intelligent Design to be taught alongside evolution in science classes.

I don’t understand why people are fighting this. We need a cheap, undereducated labor force, and giving a certain segment a bad education is key to their failure at social mobility and thus the creation of non-immigrant cheap labor.

metalgrid – You joke(I think?), but I’m convinced that is exactly what Republican leadership is thinking when they promote this crap.

    Steve,
I was only partially joking, but if you were to read the views of several rightward think tanks and conservative thought, your summation would not be too far off. However, they do not see it as a labor issue, they see it as a method of controling their followers since they do believe in social stratification and oligarchy. Considering that I have no vested interest in power or rule, and I just want to hire someone to paint, clean my houses or repair my roof without paying an arm and a leg for it, I just have different priorities.

If they bring that shit here in Indiana, I volunteer to fight in the streets to stop it. These jackasses in the General Assembly have already done enough damage to my beloved state with their anti-gay shit. We’re not as bad as Kansas, but damn we’re getting closer and closer each year. Indy is a fairly liberal town though, so hopefully they’ll be able to keep everybody in line in regards to this nonsense.

I don’t know about Indy being that liberal. The center and some of the northern suburbs, sure. But I lived on the south side for a couple of years and it was pretty redneck. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.)

haha, Well I used the term liberal relative to the rest of Indiana. I should have pointed that out, I guess. Compared to Shelbyville (my hometown), it’s L.A.

On a related note, I see FDA is practicing the Kansas Scientific method regarding the licensing of Plan B (still).
