Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

If you are still in the GOP, you are an extremist.

This fight is for everything.

In my day, never was longer.

Sadly, there is no cure for stupid.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

No one could have predicted…

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

Accountability, motherfuckers.

After roe, women are no longer free.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

I did not have telepathic declassification on my 2022 bingo card.

This blog will pay for itself.

I like you, you’re my kind of trouble.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Since we (and I mean we- you commenters like fighting over this as much as I like tweaking you) can never get enough Cindy Sheehan, I offer you this:

Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a slain soldier and anti-war crusader, plans to return to President Bush’s Crawford ranch Thanksgiving weekend for a vigil in spite of county ordinances banning roadside camping.

McLennan County commissioners passed two ordinances in response to Sheehan’s demonstration earlier this year when thousands of protesters converged on the sleepy Texas town of 700 people. Residents complained of noise and traffic congestion prompting commissioners to act, said Stephen Hendrick, a spokesman for the McLennan County Commissioners Court.

One ordinance bans parking along all 14 roads within a five-mile radius around the ranch. The other prohibits camping or placing portable toilets in any county ditch.

Hendrick said the commissioners’ main concern was safety, citing one incident where a truck ran off the road and knocked down a row of crosses.

“If that had been a tent, someone could have been killed,” Hendrick said.

Jim Harrington, a lawyer for Sheehan, called the county’s justification for the ban “bullshit.” He said the area where the demonstrations were being held has sparse traffic.

Insert your obligatory turkey jokes in the comments.

Yup. The guy just lost control of his truck, somehow a chain connected to the back of the truck got tied up with a metal bar and he accidently mowed down a bunch of crosses.

As far as Cindy going back to Crawford, I really don’t care. But I do find that part of this story quite funny.

How f**king great!!! I have been having withdrawals from the absence of the “grieving mom”, and was gonna have to go out and find the bitch myself if you hadn’t served her up here.

Shall we bring her and her tribe a tofu turkey and some Boone’s Farm Strawberry Hill to keep them comfortable, tell our own unique and twisted versions of The Aristocrats, then as they lay drunk and giggling near the fading campfire, place raccoons in their tents and honey in their sleeping bags?

John can be there to help us live-blog the whole thing.

“Bullshit” is a legal term of art. Roughly translated out of lawyerese, it means “You totally got me on that one, and I’m either too unprofessional or too unschooled in the law to issue a professional, lawyerly rebuttal.”

In this case the lawyerly rebuttal would have been “while facially neutral laws which incidentally burden free speech are generally permissible, they may not be enacted with the intent to silence a particular viewpoint – which this law clearly was.”

I hope that whoever around here is in charge of the Cindy Sheehan Chained-to-Fence Fun Defense Fund has made a note of this, and is even now making an effort to get a better qualified shyster on the case.

I think we should ban Trucks running off the road and run over little harmless white crosses.

    That would solve that problem.

    No, no, NO!!!

She is not a bitch because her son died as an adult volunteer in a perfectly justifiable use of American military strength. She is a bitch because of her generally reprehensible comments, her mean-spirited statements aimed at Bush even after he met with her in person, her willing adoption by the MoveOn crowd for their nefarious ends, and her misrepresentations about the purpose of this war.

    She is a goddamn caricature.

LOL. Oh please the ONLY reason why there was a majority of public support for the war was the supposed threat (the one we were lied to about) Saddam posed. But you mean to tell me it goes without saying that a war that was justified by a lie is still justified.

Wow, I can’t believe SCUM like yourself lives in this country If you like believing in the infallability of your conservative leaders so much, go move to Saudi Arabia, ya fucking wackjob.

since John likes “tweaking” some of us, perhaps I should “tweak” him a bit by telling him CNN’s Anderson Cooper did a long segment on WP in Falluja just now complete with video, the State Department’s false statements, etc. The even had their resident Doc, Sanja Gupta [sp], giving the rundown on the horrors of WP’s effects.
