Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

If you’re pissed about Biden’s speech, he was talking about you.

If you are still in the GOP, you are an extremist.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Prediction: the GOP will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

In my day, never was longer.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

I did not have this on my fuck 2022 bingo card.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Consistently wrong since 2002

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

No one could have predicted…

He really is that stupid.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

I Love the Smell of Fiscal Conservatism In the Morning

This post is in: Election 2008, Did You Know John McCain Was A POW?

From the liberal Wall Street Journal:

The biggest project that Sarah Palin undertook as mayor of this small town was an indoor sports complex, where locals played hockey, soccer, and basketball, especially during the long, dark Alaskan winters.

The only catch was that the city began building roads and installing utilities for the project before it had unchallenged title to the land. The misstep led to years of litigation and at least $1.3 million in extra costs for a small municipality with a small budget. What was to be Ms. Palin’s legacy has turned into a financial mess that continues to plague Wasilla.

“It’s too bad that the city of Wasilla didn’t do their homework and secure the land before they began construction,” said Kathy Wells, a longtime activist here. “She was not your ceremonial mayor; she was in charge of running the city. So it was her job to make sure things were done correctly.”

Kind of like a community organizer, but with responsibility! Reformer with Results!

Maybe years of legal bills were part of God’s plan.

I fear it’s too late. The wingnuts are in love. Reality isn’t going to matter when it comes to Ms. Pitbull from here on out.

Now, as for pure comedy, I assume you’ve seen where the McCain campaign is now ripping off Obama’s themes left and right in their new ads?

hey john, i think your formatting is off in that post.

you put in a final ‘blockquote’ tag, but it didn’t really take, and now your prose appears in the same box as their prose.

it makes the wsj look *much* wittier than it is.

    and on substance:

yes: “legal bills were part of god’s plan” is *exactly* the spin they are running with.

her spokesman in the article says it’s no big deal: “litigation happens”.

    haven’t we heard that before?

oh yeah–lousy parenting, pregnant teen, “life happens”.

yup. every thing woman touches is going to turn to shit. and every time, she will tell us that it’s not her fault, because shit just happens.

    it’s god’s will.

She is an amateur Chimpy in that way. He is the master of turning everything that he touches into shit. She does too, but now she wants the same chance Chimpy had.

To fuck up on a national and international scale. Please, not again. Never.

    Hmmm, this sounds familiar.

What was to be Ms. Palin’s Mr. Bush’s legacy has turned into a financial mess that continues to plague Wasilla the United States.

Fill in the details as needed.

This “God’s will” stuff is just offensive in the political sphere. For the life of me, I can’t figure out why belief that a supernatural force is directing your every move is actually considered a _positive_ attribute in this country! It should be a _disqualification_ from being anywhere near the nuclear launch codes. Honestly, if you have unprotected sex and get pregnant (at 16 or at 43), it’s not “God’s will”, it’s the expected outcome. Blaming your carelessness on God is just irresponsible. This is a woman who, even as she rose through the ranks as an elected official, chose not to stay informed or form opinions about Iraq, because she trusted Bush to make it all work out right. That’s dereliction of duty as a citizen, much less as the top elected official in one of the states of the union. Leave it to the republicans to find someone even scarier than Bush to put a heartbeat from the presidency.

Someone in the comments had it exactly right. Obama is underperforming the generic democrat, so… the McCain campaign is trying their damnedest to link him to generic democrats. It’s almost like Obama saw this coming, and was just hoping that McCain would use the “he’s not real change, he’s just like any other Democrat!” defense.

In other words….she invaded with no plans for the occupation, leading to a quagmire that continues to drain resources with no end in sight.

This can all be blamed on lawyers. In a perfect free market possession of the land would constitute ten-tenths of the law, and the City Council’s seizure would pass unremarked. Unless, that is, the original owners had defended their claim with AK-47s, howitzers, and landmines, as they obviously should have done to begin with if they really wanted the property.

    Great analogy! It works.
