I honestly am so disgusted with McCain and Palin right now that I don’t even want to watch the debate. All I want to do is vote.

my god, who would HAVE EVER guessed the republicans would hack up two candidates MORE DISGUSTING than Bush/Cheney?
i wouldn’t blame Obama if walked out on stage and punched McCain in the nuts.

13 more days until we can vote here in Texas.

John: We all know this is a front and you’re going to vote for McCain anyway.
Don’t play…

Totally in agreement with you. So who’s kitty is that?

While personally I couldn’t blame him, I really think we need to let the opposition look like the ones who are out of control and in need of intervention.

I’m going to mix my disgust for these rancid assholes with a healthy portion of schadenfreude. And with any luck, Mccain will drop his drawers tonight and lay a fucking big ass white egg on national Teevee.
Comrade Jake
I’d prefer he throw McCain a People’s Elbow. CAN YOU SMELL WHAT BARACK IS COOKING?!?!?

I’m sitting (or sittin’ as the bashful Barracuda would say) this one out also. If I hear old man McCain say "my friends" one more time I’m going to go fucking apeshit.

I am a polite person.
But, I fucking loathe contemporary Republicans.
I remember the good old days when I could hate the wingers, but like the moderates. Now that the wingers have driven all the moderates away … and, well, I hate those sonsabitches.
I can’t wait to vote against them! I am kinda sick to my stomach though that the polls aren’t right, and that somehow they’ll steal the election. Again. Ok, off to donate to somebody blue, just to feel like I’m doing something to keep that from happening!

Nice kitty! I live in Ohio and we have early voting. I took my MIL to register and vote yesterday (Oct. 6 was the last day to register here) but the line was so long we decided to register her and come back in a couple days to vote. She wasn’t going to vote but she is now excited to vote for Obama.

All I want to do is vote.
The first day of early voting, I’m so there. I can only vote once, so I’m just going to do it as quickly and forcefully as I can.

I love Siamese kittehs! Beautiful cat there but we need to be balanced so can someone put up a picture of a cat taking a dump on a McCain/Palin shirt?
Gotta be fair!

I’m gonna vote for Obama so hard I might break the machine.

At the risk of being accused of not using Google…
Why, in the US, do people register as a member of a political party? I am from Canada, and if we ever had a form that asked us our political affiliation, there’s be a revolt – a very polite revolt – but a revolt nonetheless.
Just askin’. * wink *

I know you all hate photos in the threads. I think we all need to remember this tonight (thanks to whoever here I got this from originally):

You know how some people can’t watch suspense or horror movies? I’m not one of them, but then again, it’s not real life. I’ve been so miserable watching the last two debates (until I found out how the focus groups and polls were going, anyway) that I’m going to skip it tonight. The boyfriend’s coming over, we’re having a nice supper, and maybe, after this is all over, we’ll watch Stewart and Colbert, who won’t be able to report on tonight.
And Elliott is gorgeous. I used to have a blue point that looked a lot like him.

@Michael Demmons: Depending on the state, you have to register for a party in order to participate in the primary for that party.

John, like you, I am kind of disgusted. It makes me laugh when I think of Bill Maher mocking McCain with "McCain, the celebrity cologne made of flop sweat, creamed corn, and Preparation H" or when I think of McCain getting on television, with a serious demeanor, announcing that he was suspending his campaign. McCain’s acting like a goddamn child, and while it’s very funny, it’s also pretty damn scary. For those of us who aren’t on the fringes of society but rather in the rather large middle, like you and men, it’s sad and unnerving that a major political party appears to be dying a sad, pathetic death before our eyes.
But it looks like Obama is going to win. In a few short months, all of this will be behind us, and while it won’t go away, it won’t be smacking us in the face every day. Keep that in mind.
The only thing I wonder is, are McCain’s internal numbers even worse than most of the public polling? He’s essentially calling Obama a terrorist. We knew it was going to get nasty, but to me, it suggests a possibility things look really, really bad inside the McCain campaign.

I can’t watch situation comedies. For some reason, the stupid problems the characters get themselves into drive me into an anxious panic. For some reason, I have the same problem watching political speeches and debates.

I wonder if the mic will pick up the sound of Maverick McLumps grinding his teeth. But even that might be drowned out by the sound of plummeting poll numbers.

Hey, I thought the candidates weren’t supposed to move really close to the questioners and stand directly in front of them and address them?
Huh? is McCain allowed to do this (first question he’s answering)? WTF?

Obama: Tax cuts for the middle class.
McCain: No tax increases for anyone.

Follow up to first question:
McCain: HP’s failure of a CEO is my idol.
Obama: Help the middle class, economy is not sound.

I agree. I CAN’T WAIT TO VOTE.
Comrade Tax Analyst
Me too. Until I can do that I’ve been satisfying my desire to see McCain & Company ground into little mint jelly patties by checking the State-by-State polls over at 538. Their method seems reasonably credible and after some disheartening rear guard movement after the Repugnican Convention the trends all started moving towards Obama. I’m seeing Obama’s Electoral Vote projections advancing in places that "Conventional Party Wisdom" (read: Any other Democratic Party nominee, and especially an HRC Candidacy) would have written off up front. I’ve been of the opinion for a while now…starting shortly after Obama’s Primary campaign and win in Iowa…that this General Election was going to be a watershed event.
OK…so now I’m on a roll, so WTF, I’ll just go with it and let those willing to wade through this comment decide if I make any sense or just need to have my meds adjusted. If so, well, just chalk it up to a few moments of contra-lucidity mixed with delusions of grandeur from a Court Jester momentarily aspiring to high-profundity whilst spiraling downward towards the rocks of ridicule. Anyway, back to the point…did I have one? Oh, yeah…it just seemed to me that just about every current out there was pushing towards a point of convergence, and that the main obstacle would be getting people to a point where they get past their fears and prejudices and consider whether this man might be capable of steering us out of the dangerously nonsensical, certifiably loony, Red-Queen world that one moment only seemed to exist within the twisted, cynical, power-hungry minds of a relatively small, but determined cabal of ass-hat neoconists that saw a complacent and inattentive public more interested in celebrity peccadilloes and faux pas and a mass media that found it easier and more profitable to cater to, and finally actively promote this infantile mind-set, than to actually confront and expose the bullying creeps behind the FearWall Putsch that grew out of 9/11.* It was much easier to play along and be co-opted – especially when realizing the alternative would subject you to a soul-shaking dose of virulent vilification funneled through the organized cacophony of the Right-Wing echo chamber.
At any rate, this ramble has managed to keep me occupied with something other than viewing the “Debate”, which would surely inflame my already over-stoked sense of anger and disgust with Johnny McDrama and his Traveling Wincestrel Show.
I guess that’s about enough. I don’t want to use up all my absurd allegories in one comment thread.
* Quite a sentence there, eh?

Here in CA, early voting has started and I just got my sample ballot. I could vote tomorrow, but in addition to President, I have to vote for Congresscritter (ht Molly Ivens), State Senator, State Assembly, Superior Court Judge, High School District Board Member, Union School District Board Member (No kids, but I gotta be sure no stealth creationists slip in. ), County Supervisor, 12 state propositions, one county proposition, three transit district propositions, and four city propositions. Sometimes I just look at the ballot arguments and see who uses the most inappropriate capital letters and vote the other way.

John, et al, I can only say that it was with great pleasure that I walked into the Curry Bldg here in Bloomington, Indiana, yesterday, and voted early (using a paper ballot that can not only be scanned but READ BY A HUMAN BEING). Early voting started Monday, 10/6.
Voting this time was pretty easy. I identified the little oval by the number for voting a straight Democratic ticket, triple checked I had the right little oval, then let my pencil speak for me.
The only other races you had to vote individually were school board and State Supreme Court. For the court races, your only options are ‘Retain in Office: Yes or No?’. It was my pleasure to vote NO, throw the bums out, for the Republican members of the bench.
The sad part is a good friend of mine is on the ballot for an empty judge slot here in Bloomington… as a Republican. I had lunch with him a couple months ago, and had to explain as best I could without hurting his feelings that although I did not categorize him with Bush/Rove/Cheney Republicanism, my conscious right now would never let me vote Republican again for any office, for any reason, as long as the Republican party remains what it has become, the opposite of conservative, and trending in fact towards full-scale corporate fascism with overtones of Stalinist communism.
One final note from the probably the most liberal spot on the map in the middle of the state of Indiana, Bloomington. After voting I dropped by the barber shop to get a hair cut. Now this is a traditional men’s barber shop, not a trendy salon with women smelling of hairspray and dryers. I am actually amazed sometimes that they do not still have pictures of bulldogs playing cards on the walls, which I remember so fondly from my youth in the barbershops in rural Alabama where I grew up.
At any rate, once I mentioned I had just voted, and decided to test the waters by mentioning it had been a straight ticket for the first time in years (our council rep was a decent Republican), I was flabbergasted that both barbers and the other customers all took turns chiming in and denouncing McCain and especially Sarah Palin, who I think scares the bejeezus out of any sane American. It was unanimous.
FWIW, while chatting with the guy who guts my hair regularly, we continued our chat on politics, and I outlined the whole sorry history of Leo Strauss and his philosophy of the straw man popular man of the people president who is elected by the elite corporate and intellectuals so they can manipulate him to their ends; PNAC (Project for the the New American Century) and Cheney and that whole effort; and the Neo-Con takeover of the party with the goal of implementing these goals, and how that has led to the current disaster. As I was getting ready to leave, he had me write down the key words so he could goggle the topics and read up on them.
Maybe we will survive the madness and horror that Bush/Cheney and the crews outlined above have plunged us into in just eight years.
Maybe.
