Been a sedate but football filled weekend here, and I just watched MSU shit the bed against Wisconsin. Why was anyone withing 40 yards of the punter? Watching Boss on demand and chilling with the pets. You?

Punter did a great acting job, but yeah, no one should have been near him in that situation.
David Fud
Savoring OSU’s epic victory over OU. I think someone will have to pinch me. Just wow.
Corner Stone
I’m wondering why there’s not a part 40 in the ongoing CF that is ABL vs. Naomi No-one-cares-about.
Corner Stone
@Linnaeus: Dude got stroked.
Corner Stone
@David Fud: OSU has an epic offense this year. If they had taken care of biz they’d be playing LSU for the NC this year.
flukebucket
Clemson / WVU should be a good one. LSU has one incredible football team but Oklahoma State ought to get a shot at them. Alabama had their chance at home and muffed it.
Sir Nose'D
UW (PhD class of 2000)–you bet I was a-watchin’ the game. Agreed–big MSU mistake on the punt.
+5 (like a good UW alumni)

@Linnaeus: Nortman did get hit; he then did a great job of making sure that the refs did not miss that fact.
Ron
Yeah, that was a terrible mistake by MSU. I can’t believe people are whining about that call or the reversal of the MSU catch earlier.
MoeLarryAndJesus
I have hated Kelsey Grammer since “Cheers,” but I can’t deny that he’s doing a great job with “Boss.”

Force of habit. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
Oklahoma State looked like they were putting on a show for the poll voters, challenging every criticism raised of them so far. Leaky defense? Not tonight. Can’t run the ball? They did tonight. They looked like they went out on every drive with a mission to highlight a different part of their arsenal, like a bodybuilder running through poses for the judges. Remarkable to watch.
Don’t think it’ll be enough — I’m convinced that plenty of poll voters deliberately watch nothing but SEC games — but it’d be a more entertaining end to the season.
Does Boise State now get an at-large bid after VA Tech got royally shat upon by Clemson?
John Cole
@MoeLarryAndJesus: Grammer should win an Emmy for his performance. He’s fucking amazing.

I just finished my 20th Elmore Leonard novel.
Yeah, I like him.

I was going to ask.

I’m chilling tonight after partying last night with my cousin after we went and saw Poi Dog Pondering in Chicago.

As a Balloon Juicer, and Spartan, I can only say WHAT THE MOTHER FUCKING HELL WAS THAT?!
Omnes Omnibus
@Hal: Wouldn’t drinking way too much have a similar effect while affording the opportunity for fun in the meantime?
The Dangerman
@pseudonymous in nc:
Not so sure; I suspect the TV people have no interest in Bama/LSU (ratings outside the South would suck; all SEC, the 9-6 yawner, etc).
Feel for the MSU guy, but both calls late were right (well, the overturn was right; WTF was the sideline judge smoking). I wouldn’t have punted on 4th and a half dozen with only a few minutes to play, but … YMMV).
Yutsano
Ate Chinese food that was surprisingly healthier than I intended. I may make up for that tomorrow.

I’ve been trying to play a bass line to string quartet NIN all night.

Took my kid to the Nutcracker and then grocery shopping. I was done in for hours afterward. Fatigue sucks. She liked the Nutcracker, though.

Plus, the hillbilly girl in Shooter has a nice rack.

Somebody had to say it.

@Corner Stone:
Kate Mara? Hot and football connected (Mara Family owns the Giants).
In the category of “I watch so you don’t have to”, I watched the post-game after the Fox Debate; Romney was getting actively fluffed on “how well he did on a No Child Left Behind and an NLRB question”. Apparently, there are still some important people that either want him to win the Nom or to at least make it a horse race.
Ron
@Skalite: A stupid mistake by the guy rushing the punter.
Corner Stone
@eemom: You bore me. You’re boring.

Willard has no core principles and no real constituency he’s constantly trying to win over. If he does get the White House, he’ll pretty much pass anything the Republicans can get to his desk. Plus he’s very much a 1%er and they want one of those in charge. He’ll be very sympathetic to the raping of the middle class and the enrichment at the top. It’s a business decision, nothing personal.
Villago Delenda Est
@Yutsano:
“The gallows here? It’s a business decision, Mr. Romney. Nothing personal. You’re being rightsized.”

Just returned from the Michigan State/Wisconsin game. Very festive and a nice time.
$20 per ticket and $10 to park. That’s Indianapolis for you.
And really a beautiful stadium. Very very nice.

@Omnes Omnibus: I demand tumbrels. Or go with the ancient invention of my people and give the Marie Antoinette treatment. I think someone should build a working one just for shits and giggles.
Omnes Omnibus
@Yutsano: Hey, they are my people too. Well, they are related to some of my people – the ones who came to Canada between 1608-ish and 1715.

@Shinobi:
Skyrim rocks.
A couple of months ago, I dusted off Oblivion and tried to replay it but didn’t get very far. The leveling system in that game is insanely complicated, I couldn’t remember how in the hell to enchant things, the main quest is mostly tedious, etc. Skyrim is a huge improvement in all of those departments.
It’s still a little buggy, and you never know when some simple sounding quest will turn out to be some horribly long awful dungeon, but it’s the best game I’ve played in a loooong time.
The Dangerman
@Yutsano:
I’m more modern and my method of “rightsizing” would be the Loreena Bobbitt treatment (as the MA treatment only causes pain for a fraction of a second).
Omnes Omnibus
@The Dangerman: Duuuude.
Yutsano
@Omnes Omnibus: I guess since mine left around the same time it’s tough for me to claim. Or not. They thought they were still part of France for quite some time. At least until the damn Anglos came.
@The Dangerman: That’s cold dude. I like the cut of your jib however.
Omnes Omnibus
@Yutsano: Mom’s side has the Froggo-Canucks and Dad’s has Anglo-Puritans. Since Dad his into genealogy and a good researcher, he has found instances where ancestors on each side were were in battles against one another. OTOH, this might not mean much as they have been “happily” married for almost 48 years.
Joel
Kelsey Granmar is good in Boss, but the show makes no fucking sense. A lot of loose ends and other nonsense.
Omnes Omnibus
@Joel: Why do you expect TV to make sense?
Suffern ACE
@Yutsano: Bah. We asked them a few times, in our very polite way of asking, whether they were happy about being French speaking Englishmen, and every time they told us to take our guns and go home. They don’t get to claim any French achievements after 1763.

@The Dangerman:
But they don’t get the veto. And the human polls have consistently been lower for OSU than the computer rankings, which is why I think they treated the game against the Sooners like an audition for the poll-fillers, in the hope that east coast coaches stayed awake past 8pm.
(Speaking of TV people, the FOX coverage of Wis/MSU was… iffy. And they get all the BCS games. But I’ve only been watching ESPN and CBS this year, so perhaps it was just the change of personnel that seemed off.)
The prophet Nostradumbass
I’m just mad that the Sharks laid a turd in the Tank tonight against Florida. GAH.

Iffy? It was fucking horrible. I want announcers that inform and don’t get all shouty and over-excited.

Waking from wine nap at 7 pm, savoring Ducks crunching Bruins still, wondering if summer has been put off for good in Australia, wife cooking steak and sausage (? who cares; yay!), soon watching Snowtown. Life is almost too good.
LT
The numbers on LSU are hard to contemplate. 5/13 passing for 30 yards. 202 yards rushing – good, but not outstanding, and not making up for 30 freaking yards passing.
JGabriel
@Omnes Omnibus:
So you’re saying that Fox’s sports coverage is just like it’s political coverage?
Quel surprise.

Let me get this off my chest:
Ross Douthat, fuck you. Fuck you, you fucking asshole douchebag.

@JGabriel: Waitaminute…Chunky Bobo says that OWS sucks, but narrow interest protests suck more, so they should all just shut up? Or am I reading this wrong?

I like Leonard too. Haven’t read any of his most recent ones, but I went on a kick years back where I read almost all his stuff up to about the early ’90s. He had a great run around Stick, Cat Chaser, LaBrava.
Maxwel
Big-time flop, you would have thought that Flopsie Zeller was punting.
Brother Shotgun of Sweet Reason
@sb: Elmore Leonard? Finished at about midnight? That’s about right. I finally learned never to pick up one of his novels after 9:00 PM. I invariably keep turning pages until the book drops out of my hands.
Ron
@Maxwel: Are you saying there was no contact? I suggest you watch the replays then. There was contact, which is all that is required for the running into the kicker penalty.
befuggled
@Ron: Yeah, he didn’t need the acting job. Sometimes it makes the difference between 5 and 15 yards, but in that situation any penalty killed the Spartans.
@LT: They could have been down 21-7 at the half, too. That’s the impressive thing about them, though. They were outplayed the first half and were unable to throw the ball, but still won 42-10.
Omnes Omnibus
@befuggled:
He made damn sure the refs saw what happened.
befuggled
@Omnes Omnibus: Eh, I think they call that even without the acting job. It was a pretty clear penalty. Of course the punter should do it anyway.

An hour until kickoff for the NCAA championship in women’s soccer. Let’s Go Devils! Feed that damn tree into a chipper.
burnspbesq
VaTech was overrated all year, and Clemson finally exposed all the Hokies’ weaknesses. That is, after all, a team that was within one play of losing to Duke.
burnspbesq
UCLA successfully petitioned the NCAA for a waiver, so the Broonz are bowl-eligible. Wonder which bowl will get stuck with a mediocre team playing for an interim coach, whose fans don’t travel.
Maxwel
@Ron:
I said it was a flop, moron, which it was. The Big 10 championship was decided by a flop.
