Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

šŸŽ¶ Those boots were made for mockin’ šŸŽµ

Good lord, these people are nuts.

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

I’m sure you banged some questionable people yourself.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

It’s time for the GOP to dust off that post-2012 autopsy, completely ignore it, and light the party on fire again.

I did not have this on my fuck 2022 bingo card.

Just because you believe it, that doesn’t make it true.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

White supremacy is terrorism.

Balloon Juice has never been a refuge for the linguistically delicate.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

Everybody saw this coming.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Battle won, war still ongoing.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

“woke” is the new caravan.

American History and Black History Cannot Be Separated

When someone says they ā€œlove freedomā€, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

How can republicans represent us when they don’t trust women?

So Romney Won

Saw on MSNBC that Romney won NH, with Paul and Huntsman trailing. Little Ricky and Newt nosedived, and Perry got 1%. Romney is starting to take on the air of invulnerability, and I expect a hiccup in SC but then for the sheep to fall in line the rest of the way. Watched the coverage at MSNBC long enough to hear John Sununu call Obama a “completely incompetent President who wrecked the economy, and the four hosts of our “left-leaning” MSNBC said nothing. Way to go, Larry O’D, Big head Ed, Chrissy, and Rachel. I will say it is nice seeing older Republicans like Sununu spew bullshit, as it reinforces the notion in this new Democrat that there never really were respectable Republicans, it’s just some myth I’ve latched on to as a coping mechanism for my own stupidity.

BTW- just wtf is Larry O’Donnell trying to accomplish with those hipster specs? Christ, he looks like such a douchebag I wouldn’t be surprised to see him writing at Reason.

I have to wonder if TPTB at MSNBC is telling their personalities not to argue with the “guests” on election / primary programming?

I remember once that Olbermann was arguing with a republican during one of these election broadcasts and rumor has it he was told never to do that again.

Rick Perry got 1%? How symbolically appropriate.

Does anyone else wonder whether his handlers have invested in some sort of electronic leash – because if ever there was a candidate born to bound up to voters and sniff their crotches while slobbering joyfully, it was Ricky Texas.

We can observe that the Obama Administration is pleased by the news of the Romney win. The theory is that Obama will deflect any criticism of his unpopular health care plan by pointing out that his simply mirrors the plan Romney established while governor. Now, those who ask bold questions in an effort to ascertain Truth, must wonder: how do we know that Romney is the opponent that the Obama Administration wants?

The answer can be found by viewing the behavior of the Obama Administration staff. In a celebration observed in Chicago just today, 14 people were shot. It is a good thing that Democrats possess very bad marksmanship skills, or else somebody might eventually lose an eye.

I’m listening to Ron Paul right now and the guy is an idiot.
Second place in New Hampshire might be important if Romney were third. But a third in Iowa followed by a distant second to Zopilote Romney in NH is good for nothing.

Paul is acting like his second place showing is a huge win for his insane views on the Fed and other issues, but it’s nothing of the kind. He is a distant fourth in SC polling and even further back in Florida. He’s a non-factor and I don’t see the lunatic mainstream of the GOP paying any attention to him or his whacked-out ideology. They’ve got their own insane platform; they don’t need or want his.

Wow. Only 36% and Paul gets 25! Romney is in real trouble if this is the best he can do. Paul isn’t going to go away, he’ll keep sniping well after SC and probably to the end. Hell he should he got 1/4 of the vote in NH. I’d wager that at least two of the other Four Horsemen will be gone after SC. Super Tuesday could end up with only four left. Romney is going to stagger into the convention the nominee but he will be badly damaged.

Mitt has to be the weakest GOP candidate in history. I don’t see how Romney gets more electoral votes than McCain. A lot of states need to turn red for Romney to get 270.

New Hampshire is a big win for Rick Perry. After Iowa, Perry said he was going to pray for guidance about what to do next. Obviously, staying in the race was the right thing to do. Perry is just short of 1% at the moment, proving that NH will be the ideal launching pad for a huge loss in SC.

There’s no one in this pack of losers that can challenge the Zopilote for the nomination. We’ve got to hope that Gingrich doesn’t let the inevitability of a Romney win keep him from spending every dime he has to savage the big phony. Romney is about to SERIOUSLY test the efficacy of the Citizens United decision, and the effectiveness of the 1%’s attempted subversion of our democracy.

David Corn has an interesting take on the Gingrich revenge story:

if Gingrich’s allies spend millions of dollars on a Bain assault in South Carolina, the Obama reelection crew will have a wonderful opportunity to study the effect of such a campaign. It will be able to conduct focus groups and polls to determine if this line of attack is effective—or how to make it work in the general election, should Romney be the nominee. Gingrich, the erstwhile historian, will be providing valuable research to the metrics-fixated Obama campaign.

Cruising the winger sites has been like walking past a conservative sandwich shop with large plate glass windows in the front. Gazing through the front, I’ve been watching people sitting at tables and munching on their Mitt sandwiches, telling each other “This sandwich isn’t that bad” while wearing sickly smiles on their faces, chunks of Mitt stuck in the spaces between their teeth.

    @Tractarian:

As I have called him, DougJ, Professor of Spoof. I love to watch him suck people into his web of deceit. He’s caught me a couple of times but I usually catch on quickly as DougJ has a certain style to his spoof.

The guy is good, no doubt about it.

You guys know Veritas is DougJ, right?

No shit. Yeah, pretty fucking obvious to anyone with a pulse. Been there and done that.

Romney is almost up to 40%, which makes this the biggest win in the history of the universe.

Somewhere way back in the rear view mirror is that crazy old man Paul, who believes that getting 15% has clinched his own personal victory for “liberty.” Yep, if Paul hadn’t run this campaign liberty would have died, but spewing a bunch of libertarian nonsense is a bigger win than WWII. It’s good he’s no longer practicing medicine — who wants a delusional doctor?

    …who wrecked the economy.

That line might backfire big time if the economy keeps picking up, and/or the left runs ads reminding us what happened the last time the GOP grifters took (literally) the Presidency.
