Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

“Why isn’t this Snickers bar only a nickle?”

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. let’s win this.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

Bark louder, little dog.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

Let’s finish the job.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

Take your GOP plan out of the witness protection program.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Republicans can’t even be trusted with their own money.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

We still have time to mess this up!

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

Conservatism: there are some people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

🎶 Those boots were made for mockin’ 🎵

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

It’s time for the GOP to dust off that post-2012 autopsy, completely ignore it, and light the party on fire again.

Joe Lieberman disappointingly reemerged to remind us that he’s still alive.

This fight is for everything.

The words do not have to be perfect.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

    Keeps him of the cold hard floors so I guess its a win-win!

    Our cats like to sleep on our heated floors, which I get, but also on the radiators, which I don’t get. I can’t imagine how you get comfortable laying across rows of metal ridges.

    @Schlemizel: The cats we had when I was a kid did that too. I guess the warmth won out over the whole ridges of metal thing.

    @dmsilev: Cats just sort of mold themselves to whatever it is they want to sleep in or on, though.

    Back-door implementation of Ryan’s Medicare Voucher plan is progressing apace. ALEC has taken up the formula for Health Care Compacts between the states and will be passing it along to Repub legislators, too. I just discovered Texas to be one of several to have already passed hers. Utah is in the news.

    They await a Republican dominated Senate/House to be implemented.

    @Schlemizel: We use supplemental circulating oil heaters. A permanent perch whenever they are turned on. The cat barely moves to even eat.

    @Schlemizel: We have a short, wide bench height radiator in the living room with a body pillow on it. There is always at least one cat and sometimes a dog sleeping on it in the winter.

    We remodeled 10 years ago & put in-floor heat in the bathroom, kitchen and entryways. Its a tough call but I think the cats enjoy them more than even I do. Very comforting to get up on a cold night, walk into the bathroom & have nice warm feet!

    @debit:
    We put a folder blanket on one radiator to soften it up for them but they don’t seem to use it more than the uncovered ones.
    @R-Jud:
    Yeah, and they can look so at ease and comfortable in some odd configurations. I wish my body could form like that.

    Anyone have a Bunn drip coffeemaker with thermal carafe? If so, what are pros and cons? We have a french press which yields richer flavor but we drink a lot of coffee so usually use our 10 cup Cuisinart (after the Krup died) for convenience.

    I read once that coffee brewed in a french press or percolator can raise bad cholesterol levels due to terpene oils not being filtered out. That’s a bummer, if true. I adore coffee made in a french press.

    Good morning BJ.

    Any predictions for Michigan tonight? My gut says Romney is gonna pull this one out on Santorum, and being from the land of voodoo, I usually go with my gut. But if Santorum does pull it out, then I’d will def enjoy the chaos that enuses.

    Just got wind of this story. If there ever was a reason for any LGBT individual to voter for POTUS, Liberal or conservative, this pictures says a thousand words.

    @lamh34:
    I read that there is an expectation that 20% of the R vote will come from Dems & independents. I expect the largest share of that will go to Paul but if even 5% follow the desires of GOS (and Ol Frothy’s robo call requests) Michigan will be smeared with Santorum and the Republican Party will be begging for either Christie or Daniels to be the new great white hope.

    @Schlemizel:

    Yeah, but be careful what you wish for. Daniels and/or Christie might look acceptable to “independent” (aka low information) voters.

    Once again, Malaysia’s Hypersensitive Guardians of Islam have come to rescue the faith from the Evil West: Erykah Badu’s gig permit got pulled because of a temporary tattoo she wore in a photo. She, her band and crew get to stew in their hotel rooms instead of doing the gig. Then, when they go back to America, they can tell everyone what a bunch of narrow-minded assholes Malaysians are.

    Win!

    Oh, I was not wishing for that. I think Tweedle dumber stands no chance as there are a huge number of those low-info types that would never vote for anyone as fat as he is. The pale upma-lumpa from Indiana though, that guy could fool a lot of people just long enough.

    Damn you, whoever posted that Reynolds Girls song “I’d Rather Jack” in the ear worms thread the other night. It has become my latest ear worm. I like the song–can’t believe I somehow missed it in the ’80s, which I actually lived through and don’t mind remembering (unlike the ’70s)–but, damn, it is gobbling up CPU cycles.

    @bemused: Anyone have a Bunn drip coffeemaker with thermal carafe? If so, what are pros and cons?

    I don’t have a Bunn one but I have the Mr. Coffee version. It says it makes 8 cups, my mug calls it 3. Pros, no burny taste or forgotten burned-dry glass carafe, you can pour a cup while it is going and it will wait for you. Cons, it’s hard to twist the top all the way onto the carafe sometimes, and there is the possibility of overflowing if you take the carafe away too long. The 1st cup is hot, the 2nd cup acceptable, 3rd cup will need a little reheating in microwave. This all over the course of 3 hours.

    And I don’t know if other drip units have this, but mine has “overflow” holes in the back of the machine so you can’t overfill. I need to push the unit forwards and backwards on the counter to get the water in, but if I push it back quickly a wave forms and goes out the holes, as Full level is barely below the overflow. I kept bitching about water all over the counter and who does that, and it turned out to be me making a mini tidal wave. oops

    @khead:

    I got something kind of like this one at PetCo on the clearance rack. Our shy kitty Annie LOVES IT. As soon as I put it together, she claimed it as her own, which I totally did not expect.
