Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Ah, the different things are different argument.

Conservatism: there are some people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

You are so fucked. Still, I wish you the best of luck.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

We’ll be taking my thoughts and prayers to the ballot box.

This fight is for everything.

Despite his magical powers, I don’t think Trump is thinking this through, to be honest.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

🎶 Those boots were made for mockin’ 🎵

In short, I come down firmly on all sides of the issue.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

Bad news for Ron DeSantis is great news for America.

You cannot shame the shameless.

No Justins, No Peace

Balloon Juice has never been a refuge for the linguistically delicate.

After roe, women are no longer free.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

Republicans can’t even be trusted with their own money.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Joe Lieberman disappointingly reemerged to remind us that he’s still alive.

Afternoon Nap Open Thread

Before you ask, Lily is underneath the covers right next to Lovey and Thurston, Ginger is underneath the bed (her choice, I think because it gives her space from the pups):

naptime

I’m just mostly impressed I managed to get a picture of Rosie without her throwing shade. I’m going to miss the piglets when they go, but I am ready to get back to some normalcy. I’m tired of being tired, and while it is nice at naptime when everyone is on the same schedule, six personalities is just too much to handle.

If you are going to let them go, the piglets should definitely go to a home with cats. After their experience with Steve, they’re probably going to think cats are just the best thing ever.

They are sweet but puppies can be exhausting.

Flora is now 16 weeks and she has behaviors I’ve not seen in dogs before. When she’s tired, she just runs about getting more & more crazed until I kennel her for a nap; then she will sleep. My kids had been known to do this but the other dogs I’ve owned have been happy to drop down wherever & sleep when tired.

She has just finished turning the electric bill into confetti (I have no idea how she got it) so out comes the dreaded vacuum cleaner again. But there’s that face!

Guess What? Yet Another Christie Scandal …

….there’s a new story brewing in Trenton involving the governor’s office and allegations of improper influence.

… Campbell [who first filed the suit] accused Gov. Chris Christie’s office of muscling into the case to reach a settlement more favorable to Exxon at the expense of the state’s taxpayers. “Former colleagues of mine in state government, where I served as commissioner of environmental protection from 2002 to 2006, have told me that Mr. Christie’s chief counsel inserted himself into the case, elbowed aside the attorney general and career employees who had developed and prosecuted the litigation, and cut the deal favorable to Exxon.”

@gelfling545: Awww. Pug faces are irresistible. My son’s pug was like that and I had a little pen for her. I would put her in the pen on a schedule so she would take regular naps. Otherwise she would run herself ragged trying to stay awake, sort of like a two year old.

Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale
a tale of a fateful trip,
that started from this little house,
when a naked blond guy slipped

His mate was a mighty fightin’ man,
    their destiny was mapped
when all in the house set sail that day,
    for a three hour nap,
    a three hour nap!

    The nightmares started getting rough,
    the tiny brains were tossed.
If not for the odor of a boiling stew
    the dinner would be lost.
    The dinner would be lost!

So this is the tale of our castaways,
they’re here for a long, long time.
They’ll have to make the best of things,
    it’s an uphill climb.

Weird. That part didn’t need rewriting at all.

That’s in my old ‘hood near Santa Monica Airport (though I was on the LA/Mar Vista side). It’s a small-planes-only airport in the middle of a densely populated area, so there have been some scary incidents:

    http://laist.com/2011/08/30/santa_monica_small_plane_crash_stud.php

Not until the next day (it happened on a Sunday). Started dead center of my chin and confined itself — if “confine” is the right word for a rampaging magma – to the right hand side of my head. The dermatologist gave me a course of both antibiotics and antivirals, which in some ways were almost worse than the shingles.

On March 6, 2005 I landed in Chicago with a US work visa to kick off a long immigration process, “Welcome to USA!”. There was a lot of fun and joy, and pain and sorrow on the way to the citizenship oath ceremony. Ten years later, today, I got out of my bed, looking forward to read about JC and his piglets over my morning cuppa. This is how I fulfill my American Dream!!

Thank you JC, Tunch, Rosie, Lilly, Steve and now Ginger, Lovely and Thurston. I could not have imagined it would work out this way.
