Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The press swings at every pitch, we don’t have to.

Republican also-rans: four mules fighting over a turnip.

They punch you in the face and then start crying because their fist hurts.

Live so that if you miss a day of work people aren’t hoping you’re dead.

People are weird.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

In my day, never was longer.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

Many life forms that would benefit from greater intelligence, sadly, do not have it.

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

We can’t confuse what’s necessary to win elections with the policies that we want to implement when we do.

Radicalized white males who support Trump are pitching a tent in the abyss.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

Strong-man wannabe Donald Trump is allegedly refusing to appear at Thursday’s debate because scary gotcha-monster Megyn Kelly refuses to provide the treatment The Donald prefers, i.e., she doesn’t fawn over him as if she aspires to become trophy wife # 4.

Also, mooch-rancher urchin Ammon Bundy has reportedly been arrested. About motherfucking time!

    Yay to both. Trump is acting like a sissy and Ammon Bundy needed arresting a long time ago. Tactical considerations, I understand. And it can still get ugly.

    I say, let ’em crash!

    Let’s see what a non-Trump debate looks like, and what the ratings are really going to be like without him.

    Who knows what Trump will do. Maybe a surprise appearance if Baud 2016 doesn’t jump in.

    Looks like Bundy Gang leadership was on the way to a meeting in Grant County. Where they were apparently, maybe, might have gotten public support from Grant County sheriff Palmer? That part was a little unclear in the article. Arrests were while leaders travelling to Grant County.

    Maybe that was too much for the other law enforcement agencies and they felt they had to step in?

    Also, too, how can we expect Donald Trump to stand up to the hordes of Muslo-Mexicans if he’s afraid of Megyn Kelley?

    As an Oregonian, thanks to all the Police, State Troopers and Sheriffs and FBI for this. Put Bundy and Boys in the Fed Prison out there with some large horny men…. Humility bitches, learn some.

    ALSO Portland Police arrested 2 homeless scum 4 blocks from my place monday, for previous warrants, stolen car, and [after they got a Search Warrant for their tent – WHAT? ] 5 rifles, SHIT GOT REAL FOR ME. I could have had my head blown off any day walking to the library. This is not the Country I signed up for 57 years ago. We need to ban all guns now. Are you listening Hillary. You can win on this alone. Those folks won’t vote for you anyway. But if you inspire us with one powerful idea, we will swamp the polls to give you a huge mandate.

    @I’mNotSureWhoIWantToBeYet: And maybe he’s envious of Trump’s ability to look less creepy than Nixon on TV.

    (I realize that is a low bar. When I want someone who refreshingly doesn’t look like a pol “made for TV” I always liked Paul Simon, whom Al Franken is growing to resemble somewhat.)

    This is the beginning of an out for Trump. I still have a hard time believing he wants the Presidency. He wants the trappings and attention, but not the work. This is how he can set the stage for a departure on his terms with the highest possible favourable ratings. Win-Win for Trump.

    For the West Coasters, a repeat: “Hamilton” starts its national tour in San Francisco and then comes to LA.

    However, I am now officially jealous of Chicago, because they’re getting a “sit down” (open-ended) run of “Hamilton,” which means it’s going to run until people stop buying tickets, while we only get a limited run. Jerks.

    I can go there in the summer. If G is right and it’s the same theater where we entered the lottery for “Book of Mormon,” it’s right across the street from the Palmer House.

    In my little dream of what is good and right, Megyn Kelly gets to go all Womano-a-Mano with Trump, and asks him if he has what it takes to be “Leader of The Free World”. Because with his bullying protesters at his rallies, and his henchmen and toady sychophants backing him up – and the possum on his head – isn’t he really Farkus from A Christmas Story? “Please answer, Mr. Trump – I double-dog dare you…”

    @Mnemosyne:

    Don’t try to park anything bigger than a Fiat at the Palmer House, though. That way lies madness.

    The rooms are somewhat similar in their “small-i-tude” – at least the one that I stayed in. I could probably touch most pieces of furniture from the bed, but I have pretty long arms. That said, it was one of the loveliest spaces that I ever had the chance to inhabit, and I remember thinking that I was ready to move right in and establish residence.

    In contrast, The Drake Hotel in Chicago is nothing but palatial vastness. I felt like a tiny thing in that giant room with high, high ceilings. My room at the Palmer House would have fit into the hallway space between the rooms at the Drake. I count myself fortunate that I traveled for companies whose owners believed in staying in nice hotels.

    @Omnes Omnibus:

    The Drake has the best afternoon tea in the country, and they’ll serve you a cocktail with your tiny sandwiches if you prefer that. It’s not at all twee (served in the Palm Court) so it’s dude friendly. We make an annual trip there when with G’s family.

    @Mnemosyne: If afternoon tea is your thang, get yourself to The Empress Hotel in Victoria, BC. Hubby and I spent our honeymoon there. It’s one of the grand old CP hotels – right on the water…also the old Canadian CP Hotels (now operated by Fairmont) have the BEST bathrooms. Very 1920’s practical luxury.

    @Mnemosyne: I don’t really like the Palm Court. I prefer the bar below stairs. Don’t recall the name. But the cool thing with the Drake is it is so old and tolerant that one can do what ever, if one asks first and slips someone something. OTOH the fuckers let a bunch of people into my room because they said they knew me when I was staying there for a wedding in the late 90s. I complained and I was compensated. I like the place.

    @seaboogie:

    If we ever find ourselves in BC, we will definitely check it out. G likes going for tea (and, yes, he’s definitely straight). We’re already debating where to go for tea when his brother comes out to visit next month — back to the Peninsula Beverly Hills or over to the Langham Pasadena (FKA the Ritz-Carlton Pasadena).

    Tea out here in Cali has a distinct Asian influence, which is quite fun. The Drake’s afternoon tea sticks with the classics.

    @Omnes Omnibus: If you can too – get yo’self to The Empress in Victoria, BC. Instead of the Palm Court, they have the Bengal Lounge. Very Raj. I think you’d enjoy it – especially in summer. The whole dealio at The Empress is that it is veddy, veddy English, but in coastal BC – so actually much less stuffy, and there are seals and such in the adjacent harbor.

    @seaboogie:

    Other nice afternoon teas I’ve had here in the West:

    The food at the Phoenician (in Phoenix, AZ, of course) was great and they just keep bringing giant plates of it. They didn’t have cozies for the teapots, though, so one’s tea started to go cold long before you were done eating.

    We’ve also had tea at the Four Seasons in Santa Barbara (Montecito, technically). That was pretty nice, but I wasn’t sure how I felt about the wicker furniture — it was supposed to be tropical vacation, but it felt a little Grandma’s sun porch. Plus we didn’t get very good seats.
