Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

If America since Jan 2025 hasn’t broken your heart, you haven’t loved her enough.

Democracy cannot function without a free press.

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

The unpunished coup was a training exercise.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

Today in our ongoing national embarrassment…

Donald Trump found guilty as fuck – May 30, 2024!

I am pretty sure these ‘journalists’ were not always such a bootlicking sycophants.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

An almost top 10,000 blog!

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

Museums are not America’s attic for its racist shit.

Beware of advice from anyone for whom Democrats are “they” and not “we.”

How any woman could possibly vote for this smug smarmy piece of misogynistic crap is beyond understanding.

75% of people clapping liked the show!

“Loving your country does not mean lying about its history.”

Republican also-rans: four mules fighting over a turnip.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

The good news for Trump is that everyone is going to stay in the race.

Does he come out warm and fuzzy with victory or does he still throw jabs at Cruz and Rubio?

Cruz will be pushing for Rubio to drop out.

The only major state Trump lost is Texas with 155 delegates, as of now Cruz will get ~104 and Trump ~51 and the rest of the pack zippo-nada. Trump is at the moment headed to totally win MA with 42 delegates and AL with 50. The other states are hard to figure with the 20% floor for each Congressional District.

I’m watching results streaming on my iPad, and the most accessible/reliable feed is ABC, so that is where I’ve mostly been hanging. Since I don’t normally watch TV, I have no idea who any of the anchors are, but right now there is one really nice-looking black dude with dreads who has, honestly THE most gorgeous deep speaking voice I think I’ve ever heard. Why doesn’t ABC run chyrons saying who their people are? I am melting here.

    Christie is getting trashed

“Well, now we know the stuff of what Chris Christie is made: opportunism laced with RINO tendencies.” ~ John Fund, National Review

“What a cynical hack Mr. ‘straight shooter’ Chris Christie turned out to be. I hope he sleeps well tonight selling out what’s left of him.” ~ Meghan McCain

“Chris Christie’s endorsement of Donald Trump is an astonishing display of political opportunism. Donald Trump is unfit to be president. He is a dishonest demagogue who plays to our worst fears … The governor is mistaken if he believes he can count, now count on my support, and I call on Christie’s donors and supporters to reject the Governor and Donald Trump outright.” ~ Meg Whitman, former co-chair for Christie for President

“Watching Christie kiss the Donald’s ring this weekend—and make excuses for the man Christie himself had said was unfit for the presidency—demonstrated how wrong we were,” he wrote. “Rather than standing up to the bully, Christie bent his knee. In doing so, he rejected the very principles of his campaign that attracted our support.” ~ Manchester Union Leader

Six New Jersey newspapers issued a joint editorial Tuesday calling on Gov. Chris Christie to resign in the wake of his failed presidential campaign and his subsequent endorsement of rival Donald Trump.

HEH! Remember back before Bridgegate who the media loved the monster.

Trump is performing slightly below his poll numbers, but it’s really not a big difference. All in all the primary polls are not way off in most places. People had this idea that the polls might be massively understating Trump’s support because of a shy-Trumpster effect, but they’re not.

Hillary is overperforming in most of the South. Sanders is winning by more than predicted in OK (though some of that might be that the urban districts where Hillary does better have fewer precincts in). He’s keeping it really close in MA.

Looking at delegates on the (D) side, Sanders is getting hammered. Using the estimates that the NYTimes put up, Clinton right now has a ~200 pledged delegate lead. Probably will shrink somewhat once MN and CO are counted, but that’s a really big lead. Obama’s delegate lead after sweeping the caucuses in Feb 2008 wasn’t that big (something like 100-150, if memory serves).

I think he knows which GOP dogmas must be embraced and which can be flouted (in the right way, of course). I think Trump has gambled that it is a topic where he can keep enough GOP voters who will respect him for standing strong in his views, even if hey disagree with him.

I can’t figure out what Trump’s views on PP are. Does he know that federal funds are not used for PP abortion programs? Or is he saying he will force PP to abandon abortions to retain its funding? Or is he going to discover the Hype Amendment and just forget about the issue? From what he’s said, it could be anything.
