Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

Second rate reporter says what?

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

Today’s GOP: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

It’s time for the GOP to dust off that post-2012 autopsy, completely ignore it, and light the party on fire again.

White supremacy is terrorism.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

You cannot shame the shameless.

Not all heroes wear capes.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

    Amongst?

Speak American, dammit. It’s “among” for baseball. Amongst is for cricket, and ideally only for Test cricket, which is the only true form of the game. One-day is a waste of a perfectly good day, and T20 is baseball minus defense and strategy.

@David ?▶️Bad Hombres▶️? Koch: He’s got Cleveland, because he was madder at them.

Here are the worst quotes from the Joe Buck article:

    About people saying he sucks:

Vin Scully and Curt Gowdy have talked about it, this is an ongoing phenomenon that’s only gotten louder because of social media.

SACRILEGE: You are not fit to lick their boots.

About some interview show he does (never even heard of it):

It’s kind of like Inside the Actor’s Studio, but instead of Sean Penn it’s Lynn Swann.

Don’t think you can lick James Lipton’s boots, either. He comes up with fascinating facts. You don’t.

    The hairplugs thing:

But it was a joke, it’s not like I’m freebasing hair plugs at parties. It’s painful as hell and I hate every minute of it, but I felt like it was a necessary evil. And as I joked, and I think I’m being honest, I think it’s more for ego than for TV. I don’t think men like losing their hair, I don’t think that’s a newsflash. When you see people, start from Donald Trump and go down, you realize people will do anything to have some coverage up there.

What is going on with that situation with Trump’s hair, as someone who knows?

I’m fascinated. As someone who has a good radar for hair plugs, and they are everywhere, way more than people realize, his just stun me. I have no earthly idea. When Fallon messed it up, I thought… I don’t know? It is ear hair that’s combed way over? It’s really intriguing.

He said it’s not a joke. This is what he wants to know about the Republican candidate for President.

The “great” games are ones in which there are bad managerial decisions, bullpen meltdowns, etc. But these “failings” are what create the drama. You’re counting down the remaining outs and then something goes awry (or, if you were trailing, something great happens).

A lot of fun to watch. Not sure I would have survived it had my team been playing.

Sold on the Major League Baseball website, Phiten ropes claim to “stabilize your electric current inside the body” by “allowing the flow of energy.” All Phiten’s products have been treated with metal that has been dissolved in water – what they call aqua titanium.

@Davebo: True. 5-2 is a good record. But they’ve shown dramatic weaknesses these past 2 weeks, both losses: No offensive line. Injuries. Bradford is harassed constantly and no QB save a scrambling genius can succeed being heavily rushed all the time.

And with the opposition offense able to control the ball more, the defense gets worn down and then beaten. This was by far the best defense in football for the first month, but Chicago made them look bad.

I expect the Vikings to lose most of the rest of their games.
