Mark Halperin hailed reports that Donald Trump sexually harassed women because they bolstered "Donald Trump's brand" https://t.co/VVcgwwRlJf pic.twitter.com/v3jDvjiie6

You know, I always suspected Mark Halperin was every bit as great a human being as he was a journalist.

— Kevin M. Kruse (@KevinMKruse) October 26, 2017

TBH, I just figured Halperin was a celebritysexual — someone who’d hump whatever figure gave him “ACCESS” and helicopter rides. Male celebresexuals are known for publicly deploring that women — at least the young, cute ones — have unfair advantages when it comes to charming powerful older men…

I always thought he was a garbage human being and a garbage journalist, and thus it feels vindicating to have all this come out. But I’m mostly just glad he’s finally seeing actual consequences. Schadenfreude is one of the few things getting me through this administration (alongside late-night comedy).

@Steeplejack: I’m predicting Cillizza within a month. Between his creepy conduct towards Megyn Kelly & Ivanka Trump and his flagrantly misogynistic treatment of Clinton, that dude has blatantly obvious deep-seated issues with women & I’d place the odds that he’s had some kind of misconduct in his past at about the same as the odds that Donald Trump has paid a Russian sex worker to urinate on a bed.

In lighter news, it turns out Samwise wasn’t eating his dry food because an earwig had crawled into his water fountain reservoir and died, and without fresh water he didn’t want any dry food. He was getting dehydrated too, I could tell from his fur. Didn’t know about the earwig until I opened it up—it was in one of the parts you can’t see from the outside—but now he’s fed and shiny as new.

Yay for Samwise! Earwigs, yuck. A while back, one crawled up into the steam nozzle of my espresso machine. I am not going to tell you how I found it.

On topic: I’ve been seeing these endless “oh my goodness, we totes just discovered men (not me, other men) are harrassing pigs!” stories by male writers and my eyes just roll back into my head. At 56, I’ve had about 46 years of experience of grab-assing, crude remarks, penis-rubbing, crotch-grabbing, catcalling, unwelcome advances, inability to hear “no,” bizarre come-ons, frottage, quid-pro-quo proposals, bald propositions, threats, aggrieved or hostile “it was just a compliment” reactions, and every other form of verbal, attitudinal, and physical harassment, in the workplace, on the street, and in every country and city I’ve ever visited – LIKE EVERY OTHER FEMALE I KNOW. Where the fuck have these guys been, that this is news to them? Is there some vast epidemic of blindness, deafness, and social imperviousness that has uniquely afflicted journalists, pundits, and commentators that somehow had no other symptoms when women were not involved? WTF?

So fucking done with the moralizing hypocrites. Burn in hell.

Reminds me (yet again) that I need to replace the pump that died in the housecat’s fountain. I have been refilling it (and another bowl of water in the bedroom) manually, but she much preferred the prancing fluids of the active fountain. And I liked the subtle background sound.

    @?BillinGlendaleCA:

I was a little skeptical when I bought it, because the housecat has that common feline syndrome of not liking and ignoring anything that I buy specifically for her. (“But I loved the box it came in!”)

But she took to the fountain right away and drank from it a lot. She still drinks from it and from the other bowl, but I wonder if her consumption has gone down. Anyway, I need to replace the pump as part of fixing all the things (on which I am dreadfully behind).

Current fantasy, though w/o realistic hope:
If only the women who were harassed by Clarance Thomas* had protection, support and desire to speak out, and then (fantasy into overdrive) that SC seat opened just before certain people were removed from office…

*I think I remember that two women (or one) were waiting nearby to testify immediately after Anita Hill, but were never called (decision by Biden, possibly). Probably there are many others.

I remember reading Game Change after the 08 election and the thing that stood out, how mean they were to Elizabeth Edwards. Its been 8 years since I read it, but that is the one thing I remember about reading that book.
Subsequently, after all the stuff came out about John Edwards, I always thought about that. How they missed everything to pile onto the wife.

    You’re absolutely right.

Of all political spouses, she certainly ended up in that “select” group who was extremely unfairly treated by her spouse and by the press. She and HRC probably could have a very strong 2-person support group, but she died in 2010 (cancer).

    RIP.

Fucking finally, is what I have to say about Halperin. Every opportunity he’s losing is good news. I hope it’s not too much to hope that he won’t be rehabilitated right back into his influencer role, but I’ll take the giant dent in his credibility.

According to a poster on Jezebel who says she worked at ABC News years ago, this is another one of those “open secrets.” Halperin’s harrassment wasn’t really news to the newspeople, in other words.

There’s a good article at Vox today: “Why Harvey Weinstein is disgraced but Donald Trump is president“.

It’s enraging, frustrating, and insane that the amount of power this shitty president has will continue to protect him, no matter how despicable he is or what he has done.

first, fuck halperin, i hope he loses everything.

we recently got a cat-it water fountain, the one with the cute little flower on top. we love it, it’s so much quieter than the drinkwell we bought a few years ago, that we stopped using because it was too loud. one of our cats loves the cat-it, haven’t seen the other 2 drink from it though. (there are still water bowls for them to drink from.)

interesting about the earwig making the water unappetizing, i wouldn’t have even considered that. glad you found it.
