Mr Stagger Lee
Well my take on the College Football Playoffs, I think it was a good choice despite my like for Ohio State. Alabama is a scary team and will make for good ratings in a rematch against Clemson, Hell the matchups are good, Still I prefer and eight team playoff.
WaterGirl
If someone told Trump he would get the highest TV ratings, ever, for any event, he would do it in a heartbeat.

Major Major Major Major
@Baud: Where are you going?
Baud
@Major Major Major Major: South America.
The Dangerman
@Mr Stagger Lee:
It’s going to have to go to an 8 Team Field; each of the Power 5 Champions get in and 3 Wildcards. If you run the table and NOT in the P5 (see UCF), you’re a wildcard automatically. If 3 teams qualify as Wildcards in that latter scenario and Alabama gets shut out, well, tough shit. Don’t ask me what happens if more than 3 teams run the table in their Non-P5 conferences.
ETA: I wouldn’t pay a dime to watch Trump get interrrogated by Mueller. I would pay a lot for him to just resign and go quietly into retirement (and take his asshole spawn and spouses of spawn with him).
ETA2: 2 teams from the same conference can’t be Wildcards. We’d call this the “Fuck The SEC” rule (Alabama and Auburn can bitch at each other for who would get in this year).
Corner Stone
Man, what I wouldn’t have given for Paulie Walnuts to have stabbed him in the throat with a pen about forty times after he blew up on him like that one time.

So I guess the new thing is that the wingnuts are mad Mueller fired a guy for having clear anti-Trump bias? Because it proves that some people on his team might have anti-Trump bias, even though what it really shows is that they get fired for it?
debbie
@Mr Stagger Lee:
Also, Alabama only lost one game, compared to Ohio State’s two.

Mr Stagger Lee
@The Dangerman: I agree, I wonder if the Pac-12 coaches are going to rebel against their commissioner for some of the crazy TV scheduling of their elite teams. The Washington coach was particularly upset about that, but it was a down year for the Pac-12.

The Dangerman
@Mr Stagger Lee:
Hope so. This year was ridiculous. I think you called it, Washington got hurt the worst.
Only downside to an 8 Team playoff is a team like Bama would get rewarded for losing their final game (i.e., Auburn, this year). If they are almost a lock for a wildcard, they could practically take a dive and have an extra week of rest for the Tourney.

DH is watching the Panthers (sad!) but at least we are getting our money’s worth out of the subscription charges we have to pay over here to get the NFL. Sadly there is no amount of money that will allow us to get college games as he would have loved to have seen the Oregon v. Oregon game. Never mind at least this game was on at 9pm our time. The last one started at 1am and went on until 4:30 a.m. He did a lot of snoozing that day. I have been having fun searching for recipes for the few things that DH loves that we can’t get over here. Already made and canned (jarred) a huge batch of Apple Butter (he loves it with his French Toast) thanks to my Mum’s gigantic slow cooker. Also found recipes for Ranch Style dressing (easy) and Spicy Ranch Dressing (little more complicated but doable and now made and bottled in the fridge). Next up home made A1 Steak Sauce. Got a recipe, so I will just have to see how it goes. Anything to save the horrendous shipping costs from the US. Having fun.

Cranked out a stupendous loaf of dark pumpernickel last night in the super duper bread machine.

Oh BTW just got back from a three-day “superbreak” to Edinburgh, round trip first class rail tickets on Virgin Rail plus two nights bed and breakfast in a beautiful Georgian B&B. 77 pounds per person (basically the cost of the rail fair the hotel was free). Had a wonderful time, Virgin First Class is a bit like a Virgin flight, they have stewardesses and stewards that come through and give you drinks and food and stuff. Found a brilliant pub for dinner and thanks to a girl at the B&B cottoned on to all day tickets to Edinburgh buses for 4 pounds each. We wandered all over the city and saw all the sights and thanks to the buses it didn’t cost us a thing (and saved my feet somewhat). My favourite bit was St. Giles Cathedral on The Royal Mile, absolutely stunning stained glass in a building that dates back to the 14th Century. I fell in love with St. Giles as soon as I heard that he saved his tame deer from a hunter’s arrow by sticking his hand out. He is now almost always portrayed with an arrow through his hand and a deer by his side. My kind of Saint! I haven’t been to Edinburgh for 30 years and I honestly had forgotten how much I love the city. Can’t wait to go back.

So, question: has anybody told Trump, or otherwise let him know, that as soon as he lifts his signing pen from a “Tax Reform”[3] bill on his signing desk, the rest of the Republican party will have very little use for him, and in fact will start going through the processes (some not obvious/overt) of removing him from power?
They still need a signature on a bill to continue the operations of the US government, yes, so he would still have that leverage. But his days as POTUS are numbered (a small fraction of 1000) once he delivers tax cuts for the rich[1]. (A transfer of money from from the poor to the rich, in combination with debt to be paid by everyone working and especially by the young. Also a real-estate crash (perhaps only regional[2]) and some children-eating in the form of actively discouraging seekers of advanced degrees through 200-300 percent tax increases. And that includes STEM degrees.
[1] Rude pundit, good read An All-Encompassing Terrible Bill: GOP Not Even Hiding the Class Warfare Anymore
[2] I expect a significant tax increase (blue state, mortgage), and a reduction in property value, 5-10%, much much more if a recession is triggered by whatever bill (if any!) gets through committee.
[3] Re “Tax Reform”, shame on the media for continuing to use the Republican framing.

As I indicated during the primaries, when we were covering the debates, if one of the other candidates had simply stood up to him he’d have folded like a cheap suit. Jeb had the best reason to do so given that the President went after his father, his brother, and his mother. Had I been advising Jeb! I’d have told him to get in his face, both literally and figuratively. To the point where he needed to be prepared for and to actually punch him in the mouth. If just one of these guys had done this, he’d have folded like a cheap suit and his campaign would have been over. And whoever had done it would have locked up the nomination. If had been advising Fiorina, I’d have recommended she walk up to him at the first debate after he made the crack about her looks and slapped him hard.

Taking all the “take this job and shove it” that goes along with any grunt work job, and having Limbaugh et al turn it into a moral crusade is a horrible thing to watch.
