Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

… gradually, and then suddenly.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

Accountability, motherfuckers.

Let me file that under fuck it.

Dear media: perhaps we ought to let Donald Trump speak for himself!

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

Giving in to doom is how we fail to fight for ourselves & one another.

Let the trolls come, and then ignore them. that’s the worst thing you can do to a troll.

Republicans in disarray!

These are not very smart people, and things got out of hand.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

No one could have predicted…

People are weird.

Every decision we make has lots of baggage with it, known or unknown.

Tide comes in. Tide goes out. You can’t explain that.

I like political parties that aren’t owned by foreign adversaries.

Consistently wrong since 2002

Rupert, come get your orange boy, you petrified old dinosaur turd.

Since we are repeating ourselves, let me just say fuck that.

The fight for our country is always worth it. ~Kamala Harris

SCOTUS: It’s not “bribery” unless it comes from the Bribery region of France. Otherwise, it’s merely “sparkling malfeasance”.

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” was supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

The arc of the moral universe does not bend itself. it is up to us to bend it.

Dogs- Smarter Than Trump Voters

And better, too:

“Donald was not a dog fan,” Ivana Trump wrote in her 2017 memoir, Raising Trump, recounted his resistance to her bringing a poodle named Chappy home. “It’s me and Chappy or no one!” she said to him.

The poodle, however, soon showed that the feeling of dislike was mutual. When the real estate developer went near her closet, “Chappy would bark at him territorially,” Ivana Trump wrote.

Would Donald Trump ever do something selfless like this:

This dog saw his friend drowning in the pool, so he jumped in and saved his life! pic.twitter.com/ip4yq0lVfN

Democrats cautious about judging one of their own amid misconduct allegations

Democrats have found themselves once again in the uncomfortable position of trying to determine how to judge one of their own accused of misdeeds.

For now, at least, Rep. Keith Ellison’s fellow Democrats have taken a wait-and-see approach following allegations he was abusive toward a now-former girlfriend, an accusation that went public just days before he won the party’s nomination for Minnesota attorney general in November.

Ellison, a prominent supporter of Sen. Bernie Sanders’s 2016 presidential bid, also serves as deputy chairman of the Democratic National Committee, the organization that has said it is reviewing the allegations.

“I know that the DNC is investigating it, so we’ll see and let that run its course,” Sen. Kamala D. Harris (D-Calif.) said Wednesday as the Senate returned from a two-week recess.

“I think that’s appropriate to look into it,” Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) said.

“I support a strong process. I think the process needs to be shored up,” said Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.).

The tone was far different late last year when their Senate colleague Al Franken faced accusations of groping women and other inappropriate sexual advances. Within an hour of the first accusation, Harris and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) forcefully called for the Senate Ethics Committee to investigate, making clear they would not spare the Minnesota senator just because he was a leading liberal.

I was still on the fence about his resignation, but I certainly understand how it could be a bridge too far for a lot of people, especially since we are the party that is against sexual harassment. Republicans are for sexual harassment. Of course they get away with it more easily.

Reading an article on The Guardian about how Omarosa released a new mix tape about supposedly being paid off. I got to this part and basically started laughing:

Manigault Newman, a former Apprentice contestant who was once the most prominent African American in the Trump administration, told MSNBC she saw the offer as “an attempt to buy my silence, censor me and pay me off – $15,000 a month”.

@gene108: It’s an odd story. I first heard about the accusations against Ellison over the weekend. From what I gather, Ellison’s ex-girlfriend’s son claims there’s video of Ellison being physically abusive, but they haven’t produced it. Minneapolis Public Radio says the ex provided them with hundreds of text messages between herself and Ellison. The MPR folks say that while there are angry words, there’s nothing they’d characterize as abusive or suggestive of any physical abuse. Maybe it’s just an ugly-ass breakup rather than political shenanigans.

Adam (and others, I’m sure) called it: Omarosa has released the tape of Lara Trump offering her 15k/month for her silence. To the Twitters, Orangmandias! You know you want to.

Also, this is kinda bold: Revoke My Clearance Too, Mr. President*

IC & military have had enough:

    Dear Mr. President:

Former CIA director John Brennan, whose security clearance you revoked on Wednesday, is one of the finest public servants I have ever known. Few Americans have done more to protect this country than John. He is a man of unparalleled integrity, whose honesty and character have never been in question, except by those who don’t know him.

Therefore, I would consider it an honor if you would revoke my security clearance as well, so I can add my name to the list of men and women who have spoken up against your presidency.

    It gets better from there…

Worker dies after falling into vat at plant that recycles Disney World food waste

A man died early Wednesday after falling into a vat of oil and grease at a plant near Walt Disney World that recycles the resort’s food waste, authorities said.

The industrial accident occurred shortly after midnight Tuesday at Harvest Power, a Central Florida facility that converts food waste into renewable energy and fertilizers.

There, two men were emptying oil and grease from a semi-truck into a vat when one of the workers — identified as 61-year-old John Korody — slipped on a grate and fell into the vat, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Korody’s co-worker tried to pull him to safety, but fumes from the oil and grease byproduct overwhelmed both of them, and Korody slipped further into the vat, the sheriff’s office said.

    Please proceed governor…

“We’re not going to make America great again — it was never that great,” said Cuomo, who is running for a third term this November. “We have not reached greatness. We will reach greatness when every American is fully engaged.”

Well I suppose he had a point, but that was an incredibly dumb way of expressing it. Still, anything that Cuomo says to disqualify himself from higher office, and damage his re-election chances, is fine by me.

And to pour gasoline on the fire…

A spokesperson for Cuomo later backtracked on the governor’s comments in a statement seeking to clarify the point he was making.

“The governor believes America is great and that her full greatness will be fully realized when every man, woman, and child has full equality,” Cuomo press secretary Dani Lever said.

Okay, I’ve crossed over some kind of line.

I just watched the whole interview with Omarosa on MSNBC from an hour ago, where they play clips of Lara Trump offering her $180,000 a year to be on the campaign, right after Maggie Haberman published a story in the NYT about how Omarosa might just have some stories to tell on the administration that had just fired her ass for … wait for it … integrity issues.

So I’m sitting here hoping to hell that Omarosa gets herself on tv every couple of days from now until that orange a-hole shuffles out of sight for good. Because she really does seem to have the goods on them.

Just go watch it and listen to stupid Lara telling her that the money will come from small donors. Listen to Lara explaining that she won’t have to do much to earn it. Listen to Lara working out (with a calculator!) that 12 x 15 is 180, which is just about exactly what O was “earning” in her job at the White House.

And then they play for O a tape that the RNC is running in which she repeatedly praises Trump, as if that’s going to persuade us all that Lara did not say what she said.

It’s freaking amazing. Also, O was clearly one of Maggie’s inside sources. And she just seems to be completely out of effs to give.

California now says coffee doesn’t need cancer warnings

In every cup of coffee, there is a chemical linked to cancer.

That undisputed fact led a Los Angeles judge to rule this spring that coffee companies must provide cancer warnings to coffee drinkers. The ruling cast a shadow on a daily and often essential rite for more than 100 million Americans.

But now, the state of California has intervened, telling coffee drinkers not to worry. An agency has proposed a rule declaring that not only does coffee pose no significant risk of cancer, it may actually have health benefits.

@jl: Nah. It was more about achieving the pinnacle of what you want. I do not want to be President. I fact I have a life saying; ready? Here we go:

“Of all the things I don’t want to be #1 is cancer patient, #2 is Famous. And there is that very special version of famous; famous for fucking someone famous.”

Not interested. Anyone want my 15 minutes? I’ll give to you for free.

@trollhattan: Mitt’s gaffes combined with superhuman financial operator competence made him a somewhat sympathetic cyborg. Strapping the dog to the rooftop for a cross-country car has to be set aside, or put under ‘cyborgs gone wrong’.

She knew it would be a shitshow and she could make bank documenting it from the inside

Exactly. What’s mind-boggling is how utterly stupid the corruption is. The president’s daughter-in-law phoned up a senior adviser who had been fired for integrity issues (!!) and offered her an immediate job on the next campaign, with the understanding that she’d have to shut up about anything that wasn’t “positive.”

I picture Omarosa hanging up after that call, playing the recording back to herself, and laughing out loud. It’s like the Trump family members cannot conceive that their money-based power might have limits, or that people will take the bigger payoff if they can.

@hitchhiker: ust go watch it and listen to stupid Lara telling her that the money will come from small donors. Listen to Lara explaining that she won’t have to do much to earn it.

Other people’s money. She may be an in-law, but she’s a true trump

Listen to Lara working out (with a calculator!) that 12 x 15 is 180,

and she may yet be the smartest trump of that generation– I’m withholding final judgment till we find out, if we ever find out, how much Jared, and maybe even his wife, gave Mueller and in return for what

No, no. It isn’t the folks who don’t like dogs. it’s the folks who dogs hate… see the difference?

Really, you’re quite correct. People who don’t like dogs, and whom dogs don’t like, are almost universally wretched monsters rather than actual people.
