I posted this last night and there were several requests for a re-up since it got stepped on a bit
***********************
Unlikely that Republicans can get Duncan Hunter off the ballot, which makes for a good pick-up opportunity. Democrats have a great candidate in Ammar Campa-Najjar. Let’s do this.
******************
Also getting a lot of requests to raise money for Beto so here you go.

Doug! A wee whoopsie on the title there.
“Do I have to come right flat out and tell you everything?”
Millard Filmore
I see two links to the same thermometer. They should be different, yes?
https://secure.actblue.com/donate/bjca50?refcode=thermometer
Doug!
@captnkurt:
Fixed it I
captnkurt
@captnkurt: Am I concussed or did you just this second fix the title?
Doug!
Fixed it all I think
Amir Khalid
Will you take pound notes, loose change, bad cheques, anything?
Gin & Tonic
@Amir Khalid: I think Duncan Hunter can help with the bad checks.
psycholinguist
Anybody see the preview of Trump’s interview with Fox and Friends? He’s admitting to paying Cohen off for both women, from his personal funds. I can’t believe that just happened.
Scott
Much as I like Beto and will be voting for him, he is doing great in the fund raising business. Recommend donating to less well known or popular candidates.
guachi
I’d have preferred the other guy, the Navy SEAL, as the candidate. He seemed a better fit for the district and could run Hunter’s “f*** the Navy” quote into the ground and on to victory.
However, nothing prevents Ammar Campa-Najjar from using it or having the Navy SEAL appear with him to drive the point home, either.
guachi
Regarding the TX Senate race, something I didn’t know about until a few minutes ago is that Beto O’Rourke voted for Tim Ryan against Nancy Pelosi for Democratic House Leader.
John Revolta
@guachi: Good point. Dems have to get better at closing ranks for the general. And in general.
Miss Bianca
@psycholinguist: I know, right? And we’ve come to the point in thru’-the-looking-glass land where he sees that as a *defense*. “I didn’t pay my mistresses off with campaign money! I paid my mistresses off with my OWN money!” Well, all righty then…that makes everything hunky-dory!
?BillinGlendaleCA
@guachi: Well, if he wins the Senate race, he won’t do that again.
Yutsano
@guachi: Meh. Moot point for the Senate.
Mnemosyne
@Scott:
Midnight Lurker has three links at the bottom of the previous thread for House races. Hopefully he can come up here and repeat them.
MattF
OT. Note that the NYT redesign has ‘fixed’ the ‘Maggie Haberman is on the byline’ problem by removing all bylines. Hmm.
The Moar You Know
@guachi: It’s Texas, ace. I’d take anyone..shit, I’d take that bastard Lieberman again, hell, I’d take Hannity running as a Dem so long as they vote with the caucus. We gotta fucking win this thing. We can go on a purity crusade once we have a solid majority.
jacy
@psycholinguist:
Because he doesn’t understand how anything works, he thinks that the problem is that people would think he used campaign money to pay off his mistresses, instead of understanding that the money he paid to the mistresses was a campaign contribution. He just can’t hold complex thoughts. And it probably doesn’t help that people just lie to him to placate him so that he won’t wish them into the cornfield. It’s all fantasy and delusion that self-perpetuates.
MattF
@MattF: Note, though, that there are bylines on the articles themselves.
Gravenstone
@jacy: Wondering if someone told him that claiming to use his own money would make it akin to other candidates loaning their campaigns money from their personal accounts?
??? Goku (aka Amerikan Baka) ??
@jacy:
Welp, Trump having god-like powers is a terrifying thought
tobie
@guachi: Well, Tim Ryan’s an arse and I don’t know why anyone would vote for him for House leader but I’ll follow Pelosi’s lead here and say we’ve got to do everything we can to vote the autocrats out or they’ll destroy the country. I’m bummed that Nate Silver says my Congressional district has a 1 in 100 chance of going blue. I hope we can prove him wrong but it’s tough odds.
I'll be Frank
I know some banker is just crying his eyes out to be losing Rep. Duncan as a client. Over $5,000 a year in overdraft charges for 7 years. All that sweet fee income, gone, poof.
Doug R
@Amir Khalid: Just tell your wife you’re buying balls.
Amir Khalid
@MattF:
It’s unthinkable not to have bylines on stories.
jacy
@Gravenstone:
Whether somebody told him that or not, that’s what he heard. Narcissists like that filter whatever they hear so that it fits what they want to hear. And they believe that’s what they heard. And they will insist that’s what they were told and if you believe anything else, YOU are the crazy one……..
saving private equity
Is it true that if I post a comment from my phone the wonders of the mobile site will return?
saving private equity
@saving private equity: Sadly, no.
HeleninEire
@psycholinguist: How great is that? Bestest greatest. It wasn’t reported to the FEC. An illegal campaign donation, even if paid back, still needs to be reported; both when the donation was made and when it was paid back.
One more crime admitted to on Twitter.
MAJOR FAIL. Again. Life is great. For us.
Doug!
@Scott:
I did Beto by special request! I can see it either way: if he’s the next Obama, it’s money well spent, otherwise, it’s better to spend on less marquee races.
Doug!
@saving private equity:
I hope so.
jacy
@??? Goku (aka Amerikan Baka) ??:
From the very beginning, I’ve said that the closest literary equivalent to Trump is Anthony from Bixby’s “It’s a GOOD Life.” But what I’ve come to understand is that to elected Republicans it’s not Trump who will wish them into the cornfield, but his crazy “base.” The Children of the Cornfield. Trump’s just the head of the monster, and even when they are rid of Trump, they’ll still have to deal with the pool of crazy they filled up for all those people to swim in.
Served
@MattF: Can’t stand her, but also don’t know what this is referencing. Was there a boycott campaign going or something?
Jeffro
Beto, go for it baby – knock the Senate’s biggest jerkwad out of office and off to wingnut welfare where he belongs.
Btw as a service to BJ I would just like to offer the following, per an exchange I had with my Fox-Bubble-Is-Cracking RWNJ dad, who – you guessed it – wants to talk about ‘those criminal Clintons’ today. Clintons what now?!?! We’ve got the…
…RICO/Russia Combo Plate…
…in the WH, and you wanna ‘whatabout’ me with the Clintons? Get the heck outta here, you scamp! LOL
“RICO/Russia Combo Plate”. I try not to fall in love with my own material too quickly, but I do like this one.
Gin & Tonic
@Amir Khalid: The Economist on Line 1, Mr Khalid.
gene108
Andy Kim is looking to unseat independently wealthy former insurance company CEO and two term Congressman Tom MacArthur in NJ-3. They are currently tied in recent polling.
Did I mention Tom’s rich? He spent $5 mil of his own money to win this seat in 2014. Republican PACs are already airing attack ads on Andy.
We are in the Philadelphia media market, which is expensive.
If you want to donate, a few bucks go to the first link (Andy Kim) that I posted and chip in.
chris
Damn those evil Democrats! LOL
Josie
@Scott:
Cruz is being supported in a very big way by Pacs who are shoveling money to him. Beto needs all the financial help he can get to get his message out to an expensive media market.
Jeffro
@Jeffro: Ok, here is a pretty funny exchange (‘funny’ in the sense of, ‘you have to laugh or you’ll cry and disown your own family’)
So my pops throws the usual Clinton nonsense out there even though Trumpov & Co are pretty obviously in deep shit.
Me:
*btw I stole that from someone here on BJ and thank you, I totally love it!
Pops in full retreat, still throwing lame shit out there:
Me, already laughing and having fun at this point:
sigh…
…ok Beto, here’s another $50 because sparring with wingers, even ones in your own family, is fun but money talks and close-misses walk…
Amir Khalid
@Gin & Tonic:
The Economist is a magazine that styles itself a “newspaper”, one of many eccentricities alongside its no-bylines policy. When you’re 175 years old, you do tend to get eccentric.
MattF
@Served: The NYT site’s front page has been redesigned. No more bylines on the front page. However, there are bylines once you click inside.
Amir Khalid
@chris:
And what do these people say, when you point out that the DOJ officials they’re griping about are Republicans?
Calouste
@chris: Projection again. That what Hunter would do, and hopes the shitgibbon will do, using the DoJ to go after political enemies.
JPL
New poll shows Beto 45 percent and Cruz at 49. The margin of error is 3.8 percent. He’s moving in the right direction.
fritz
Hello all– longtime reader, first-time commenter. If you’re interested, my good friend Kelly is raising some money for Beto with her “VOTE” shirts which you can see and purchase here:
https://www.zazzle.com/trumpquotesgear
All proceeds will go to the Beto campaign.
Hope this doesn’t step on any toes here. And thanks!!
Stuart Frasier
Today, my boss added “Identify candidates for individual donations” to my taslkist at work. He’s very wealthy, very pissed pissed, and ready to donate some money. He’s already given a healthy amount to the DCCC. Where should I point him?
Stuart Frasier
@Stuart Frasier:
Er, very pissed off, that is.
bad Jim
Just dispatched a hundred bucks to Ammar Campa-Najjar. Who? Not sure that anyone with a name like that could win, even in California, even up against such an egregious sleazeball as Duncan Hunter.
It just so happens that my one right-wing nephew lives in the district, and I am tired of the right-wing uncle meme. My boomer siblings are mostly of the hippie persuasion, and the rest of my kith and kin are similarly inclined. It is a puzzlement that one of us could be one of them.
