Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

Let there be snark.

Accountability, motherfuckers.

Come on, man.

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

No one could have predicted…

Someone should tell Republicans that violence is the last refuge of the incompetent, or possibly the first.

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

Jack Smith: “Why did you start campaigning in the middle of my investigation?!”

She burned that motherfucker down, and I am so here for it. Thank you, Caroline Kennedy.

Every decision we make has lots of baggage with it, known or unknown.

“I was told there would be no fact checking.”

You passed on an opportunity to be offended? What are you even doing here?

Not rolling over. fuck you, make me.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

If you voted for Trump, you don’t get to speak about ethics, morals, or rule of law.

“When somebody takes the time to draw up a playbook, they’re gonna use it.”

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

America is going up in flames. The NYTimes fawns over MAGA celebrities. No longer a real newspaper.

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

May be nothing more important right now than impeaching Barr. He needs to be taken out for many reasons, maybe none more significant than he’s about the only person around Trump who’s as malevolent &btraitorous who’s also somewhat competent

— Dana Houle (@DanaHoule) July 4, 2019

IMO, this is not a bad idea — Barr’s extremely skittery about having to explain his legal ‘reasoning’ beyond ‘If the President does it, it is not illegal, that’s for sure’. There’s plenty of skeletons we know about in Barr’s closet(s), going back to his participation in the Great Clenis Hunt if not earlier…

But that’s the thing; there actually isn’t a deep pool of people who are traitorous, willing to work for a mercurial narcissistic asshole, and who are competent. https://t.co/44BYKJx7Lo

— Dana Houle (@DanaHoule) July 4, 2019

And imagine Barr in a hearing; he’s such an insufferable ass that there would be few who would find him sympathetic. And it’s plausible that if it’s causing bad press for Trump that he’d do what he always does: throw Barr under the bus.

We need to a conflict btwn Barr & Javanka

— Dana Houle (@DanaHoule) July 4, 2019

With him it’s less about removing him than about rattling the crap out of the administration, and maybe prompting Trump to push out Barr. (And don’t say Trump won’t do that, his entire life he’s tossed people overboard for being an inconvenience to him) https://t.co/BtunxJTp36

I’ve been saying this on Twitter every so often since we got the Mueller report partly released.

The Barr impeachment would take up a lot of TV time. We all know how Dolt45 feels about not being paid attention to. The House needs to do this not only because they need to restore their integrity as a co-equal branch, it drive the Occupier NUTS. He’ll toss Barr like a bone from an eaten chicken leg.

Didn’t the traitorous partisan fucker arrogantly blow the dems off during their last ‘hearing’?

The ‘establishment’ dems are not that great in doing these hearings on teevee. Bring on the yung’uns, who are not afraid to ask tough questions.

    Just an FYI.

In the case of a trial in the Senate following an impeachment other than that of a president or vice-president, the vice-president presides over the trial, not the Chief Justice.

Not implying anything one way or another, merely providing a point of information. I do agree it is evident he has breached his oath of office and deserves impeachment.

That said, should it come to pass that Barr is removed from office, there is virtually nothing preventing Dolt 45 from immediately appointing him as Acting AG (an unthinkable action for any president except this one).

@NotMax: Perhaps not:Per Wikipedia (from the Constitution)

Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States

Notwithstanding, I can’t see the Senate voting to convict.

I’ve thought for a while that Barr needs to have his ass impeached. I really can’t see Trump’s base working themselves up to do much about Barr. They seem to revere Trump for reasons I can’t begin to fathom. But their loyalty doesn’t seem to reach too far beyond Il Douche.

Barrons: Attorney General William Barr sold millions of dollars in AT&T stock in April, a recent disclosure shows.

Barr sold a total of between $1.75 million and $6.52 million of AT&T stock (ticker: T) from April 15 through 26, according to a form he filed with the U.S. Office of Government Ethics. Specific figures aren’t required for disclosure, only ranges.

Barr used stock options to purchase AT&T shares on April 24, 25, and 26 and sold the shares immediately, the form stated. Buying stock through the options cost a total of between $601,003 and $1.27 million.

He filed the disclosure to the OGE office on May 9, but it didn’t receive its third and final approval until July 2. After then, it was publicly posted to the OGE site.

Barr’s office didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on the AT&T stock sales. Barr served on Time Warner’s board from July 2009 until it was acquired by AT&T last year.

As a nominee for attorney general, Barr had disclosed in a regulatory form in December that he owned between $500,001 and $1 million worth of AT&T stock, and $250,001 to $500,000 in AT&T stock options. He also disclosed millions of dollars in other investments, including Dominion Energy (D), Merck (MRK), and Pfizer (PFE).

Barr was confirmed as attorney general in February and sold a slew of assets in March, including the Dominion, Merck, and Pfizer stock. It wasn’t immediately clear Wednesday why he retained his AT&T stock and options until April.

This is a wonderful idea! But I am starting to have the discouraging feeling that Nancy Pelosi is having trouble holding the House Democratic coalition together, so it may not be done.

    @Chetan Murthy

One could (tenuously) argue that serving in an acting capacity is not identical to actually holding the office.

Also too, Alcee Hastings ran for Congress and won (still is a Congressman), after being impeached, convicted and removed as a federal judge.

Yeah, but it was after they voted contempt that Barr started to deal on access to the full Mueller Report, so I think there something to the argument that he can be skittish.

He should be impeached and indicted for conspiracy to obstruct justice based soley upon what we know — and probably indicted again for what we don’t know about what he’s doing to Mueller’s spinoff investigations.

Neither will happen, at least for now — but I’m rooting for ex-prosecutor Harris to indict in 2021. Which brings to mind just how desperate they will be to win in 2020.

(WaPo) National Park Service officials remain concerned that the deployment of tanks on the Lincoln Memorial’s grounds could damage its curbs and sidewalks, which are not designed to hold the weight of a vehicle weighing more than 60 tons. The federal government spent $30.7 million to refurbish the memorial under the Obama administration, including its sidewalks, and the Trump inaugural committee still hasn’t reimbursed the agency for damage it inflicted to the memorial during its setup in January 2017.

Is he intent on purposely damaging the Lincoln Memorial because of the last administration, or just indifferent?

Shorter whiny-ass Twitter Dems: “We can’t possibly do anything about the liar and criminal in the AG’s office, the Senate wouldn’t let us convict and the even bigger criminal in the White House would just appoint another one!”

Any legislator who seriously believes that should resign – they’re admitting they can’t do their job, and aren’t interested in even trying.
