Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

A dilettante blog from the great progressive state of West Virginia.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

People are complicated. Love is not.

T R E 4 5 O N

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

John Fetterman: Too Manly for Pennsylvania.  Paid for by the Oz for Senator campaign.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

One day I’ll figure out how to make a GIF outta this, and maybe “Boston Terrier Noir” will outstrip “Dramatic Chipmunk” as the go-to meme for mock shock.

I can see why Geico uses a BT in its commercials on texting while driving.  Totally can see Badger as a member of the dog police.

open thread: people are tweeting about whether or not Renée, in the last season of the Americans, was a spy– not really a spoiler for a show that went off the air two years ago. Matthew Rhys (Phillip) has weighed in to say “yes”, to which I say: for which side?

And I still can’t believe he won an Emmy and Keri Russell didn’t.

    @Rob:
I’ve been informed by a possibly unreliable narrator that this entire timeline was edited to add a snake(s) to the badgers and mushrooms. (One or more of those mushrooms might have been involved, but probably not.) TBH, I didn’t really know of this meme until recently.

    Nice pic!

    Badger is adorable.
The good news is that both Howards End and Sanditon are very good, each in their own way. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Julia Ormond act as well as she does in HE.

Spent the morning cleaning. After dinner, Scout HAD to have something at the bottom of the dog toy box.  She managed to pull every toy out and they are now strewn across the room. At least she was entertained.

    @TaMara (HFG):

the heart wants what the heart wants. Casey fell in love with her bone pillow. When it died, she was heartbroken, briefly.

Thing was, when I first noticed how much in love with it she was, I went back to the pet store, bought the three they had in stock, and ordered 4 more. For 15 years, her bone pillow kept magically coming back to life.

@WaterGirl: gif files started out being static images… It’s been the last 20 years or that they’ve “upgraded” to adding frames for animation / or converting movie clips to gif format.

@Eljai: That’s funny, because those kind of songs — Sinatra, Nat King Cole — seem to be playing (invisibly) in the background each morning he’s out for a walk, thrilled by every sign and clue he picks up about this wonderful world.
