    So, voting by mail. I think it is actually feasible in Massachusetts, if done with care.

    I requested mail ballots for both the state primary and the general election. There’s a website where you can track your ballot through the system: according to it, the primary ballot was mailed out August 12th and I received it today, August 17th. That’s a bit slower than normal but I think it’s fast enough that I was OK with mailing it back.

    The key thing to understand is that the website will tell you when they received it, and if they haven’t received it by election day (September 1, in this case), you can go vote in person. That eliminates most of the uncertainty involved.

    For the general election, I may well skip mailing it back entirely and hand-deliver the ballot to the city clerk’s office at City Hall, where they can apparently be dropped off. This is the earliest possible way to vote.

    I’ve done a ton of boating in my life and have owned a whole series of boats.  When we finally get the kids through college we are probably going to retire to a cabin cruiser and spend half or retirement cruising between Puget Sound and Southeast Alaska and the other half in Chile.

    Based on my long experience with boaters, I think it is safe to say that there is no greater MAGA contingent than old white powerboat owners cruising the ICW in Florida.   It is the Mar a Lago crowd.  Actual working people and POC in Florida tend not to cruise the ICW off Palm Beach in powerboats.  It’s basically the floating version of Hilton Head or the Villages.

    EDIT: and by whole thing, I man the whole convention. Eva Longoria was a wonderful host and so many of the stories were uplifting and compelling.

    One reason I was less than terrified by Trump’s goon squad is that they were in Portland, where the police violence never stopped.  They were hiding under the cover of police who were already tear gassing protestors daily.  The Portland police must be the scum of the scum.
