Hilarious. They’re paying people to do what Dem volunteers are doing for free. And why do they need to pay to lodge Trump staff in Georgia when Dem volunteers from across the country are doing those calls from their couch? I mean, Trump Tower Atlanta was foreclosed on years ago https://t.co/IZimDRK2kF

Interesting. So Georgia is…. what, needs about a 65% Biden Win Rate in the remaining ballots to go Biden.

About the same as in PA. Given the trends, we probably got both of them but who the fuck knows.

I hope this means that DougJ is going to put up three fresh ActBlue thermometers: one for each candidate, and one combined for a Flip Georgia in the Senate. I’ve already donated small amounts to Warnock and Ossoff; will do much more in the coming two months.

Then in PA, take it out of the inner BS ‘security envelope’, check signature, for some states check if name on list of valid excuses. If someone knows, please post an authoritative comment on it.

Anyway, this is why well functioning state governments arrange to start mail ballot processing well ahead of the election. There are many ways to reliably ensure that no one knows the counts before election day.

@Roger Moore: Thanks. I forgot that. Most ballots are machine readable. So one way, I think NV uses, is within a day that ballots arrive, to validate and prepare the ballots for reading, and load them into hoppers, stack hoppers in secure area in clerk’s office. Then election day morning, just load the hoppers with the mail ballots into the counting machine, press button, let machine count, and repeat, all day.

So delay is for ballots that arrived too late to do that, and provisional ballots.

I got anything wrong for NV, let me know.

No mail-in ballots, but each precinct (“bureau de vote”) is small enough that a mayor or other public official, some government workers, and volunteers, can perform the tabulation process right onsite: the ballots are never moved, and the whole thing happens with great transparency.

I explained to him that some parts of our country worked hard to make such things impossible, but didn’t actually know why even now, with all the ballots collected in central locations, it’s taking so long.

Now I do  Thank you both!

I think the point of the inner security envelope is that the ballot isn’t taken out of it until after it’s passed all the checks.  The point of the security envelope is to keep the ballot secret while it’s undergoing those checks.  Otherwise, a biased checker could decide how much scrutiny to give each ballot based on whether they liked the way it voted.

Anyway, this is why well functioning state governments arrange to start mail ballot processing well ahead of the election. There are many ways to reliably ensure that no one knows the counts before election day.

It occurs to me that one plus with this current process of counting them after the election is that it removes some of the ability to rat-fuck by invalidating ballots for signature mismatch.  Those folks in PA, GA, and AZ are going balls to the wall and have lots of eyes on them.  That isn’t the case for say FL officials who were invalidating tens of thousands of Black and Hispanic ballots for signature “issues” two weeks ago.

    I don’t think it’s just military ballots.

There are a shitload of rejected mail-in ballots that can still be cured by voters up until tomorrow evening.  Those will mostly be Dem because Dems mostly voted by mail.

And I’m guessing a ton of provisional ballots from people who were wrongly stripped off the voting rolls.   Didn’t Georgia do a big voter purge of mostly Black voters and force a lot of people to vote by provisional ballot?

@Baud: It won’t just be military ballots deciding it.  Also provisional ballots too.  I can’t find any statewide numbers, but this article from yesterday said 882 provisional ballots in Cobb County alone.  https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/04/us/politics/in-georgia-about-100000-votes-separate-candidates.html I think Georgia purged a lot of Black voters off the rolls so a lot of those provisionals might be Black voters who were purged and voted provisional.

” Biden got more votes in GA from a Trump county! ”

Yes, the rural (edit: sorry I assumed you referred to a rural county, but I don’t know that) movement toward Trump in places will be interesting to look into. As I noted, a number of rural areas in NV that I thought would be 100 percent Trump split 50-50 or went to Biden.

One of Leantossup’s insights and serious problems was that they picked this up in many districts, but then overgeneralized to produce forecasts that were far too optimistic (given what we know about the results so far, but I think that judgment will stand after all the votes are counted).

Just because there things other than the election happening:

Roughly 113K new Covid cases today and 1,100 deaths. I am noticing that taking 1% of new cases gives you the death total. And those deaths will keep rising. IL, which had been doing so well, had just under 10K new cases and 97 new deaths reported today.

The state is recommending that all election judges, such as myself should get a Covid test in the next 5-7 days.  On the plus side, not a single voter came in without a mask and I was masked, shielded and gloved, so odds are probably in my favor.

The Dakotas are really scary right now.  North Dakota topped 2,000 positives per million population, the first time that has happened anywhere in the US.  South Dakota had a 58% positive test rate (1360 positives from 2340 tests).  That’s approaching the levels New York had in March, and it surely means they’re missing many cases for each one they catch.

    Could be missing signature

@patroclus:  Back in the bad old days the Diversey (sp?) Y on the near north side of Chicago was a major cruising location, as were Y’s all over the country.  The fire escape on the north side was a place of assignation.  The residential towers for half a mile  had many telescopes in the windows facing toward the Y.  Note: You could see half a dozen stars in the Chicago night sky.

Another note: This was a time when it was risky to have a guy over to your apartment or have a regular boyfriend and no wife or girlfriend.  A lot of guys went home to their wives in the burbs after making out.  Quite a few wouldn’t kiss because they “weren’t gay”.
