In just a couple of minutes, the Waukesha PD will be holding a 9 PM CST update regarding the vehicular incident this afternoon at the Waukesha Christmas Parade. Here’s KARE 11 live feed:

    It has been reported that the driver and passengers were black. So this isn’t the typical MAGA road rage thing.

    Until evidence to the contrary I would assume this is just a garden variety accident due to some sort of negligence by the driver (messing with his phone, speeding, drunk, high on meth, etc.).

    It might well have been an intentional act, but I don’t think we know that yet.

    The disinformation and agitprop started surging shortly after the news broke on this this afternoon. From the usual suspects like Jim Hoft of gateway pundit to the bots and trolls to the white supremacists, neo-fascists, and neo-NAZIs. That’s why I wanted to put up a live feed for the 9 PM CST update. Unfortunately the only real official update is the next update is tomorrow. At this point take everything being reported with a mountain of salt.

    A few things to add –

    Children’s Hospital Milwaukee has reportedly received 15 individuals from the attack with no fatalities to report.

    One or more death(s) have been indicated from the reporting I’ve seen, but no details given while they notify next of kin. ?

    The person of interest is apparently in custody, along with the vehicle.

    If you’re in the Milwaukee area, blood donations are needed.

    Though I’d argue that blood donation is always beneficial to the community (if you’re able to donate), it doesn’t appear to be an urgent need at this time.

    Saw plenty of vids and this really looked like some sort of chase.  Could have hit a lot more people if that was the intent.  Some attempts to miss, some drive by where it would have been easy to hit people, but also a blatant disregard for life when there was no people filled gap to drive through.  Multiple reports on suspect in custody and, if details are correct, Jim Hoft is going to be a very happy man, simply based on the rumored race of the suspect in custody.

    Terrible, terrible, terrible.  These folks were just out having fun, dancing in the streets.

    Wow.  I went to Divino Gelato on Main Street in Waukesha at 2:00 o’clock.  I left Waukesha at 3:30.  Seeing the videos now is freaky.  One view from an apartment shows the SUV hitting a person right in front of Divino.

    Thread includes additional details on what groups in the parade may have been impacted based on the parade lineup. Some groups (including a high school marching band and Catholic church groups) have confirmed that they have affected (eg injured/hit) members.

    For those that are religious, there are some Catholic services planned for tomorrow morning, and some online rosary praying – though I’m not sure if that’s still on going at the link.

    Not sure if I’ll have much more to add tonight (almost bedtime here), but it sounds like another press conference is planned for 1pm central tomorrow. (2pm blog time) Here’s hoping that those affected get the care and medical support they need to pull through. ???

    Main Street gets narrow heading west past Barstow Street.  At 2:00 there were people setting up chairs and reserving spots for the parade.  Waukesha Memorial Hospital has about 50 covid patients taking up beds.  WMH is not far, but Froedtert and Children’s are the higher level trauma center.  The local news just showed a red SUV near Carroll University with a badly damaged front end.

    @Mary G: I have a 3-quart Instant Pot Ultra – lots of interesting things it can do, but really too small to be useful.  There are several 6-quart models at good sale prices.

    @Chetan Murthy: I have the same model, and use it pretty regularly. Most recipes scale down for ‘ cooking for one’ without too much hassle, but I’ve run across some which are problematic in the 6 qt machine; liquid levels not high enough to submerge things, stuff like that. Usually fixable with some tweaking, but something to keep in mind.

    @Mary G: We use a 3-qt in our trailer when we’re traveling, and it’s good enough to make meals for two, sometimes with leftovers. We have the 6-qt at home. IMHO the only reason to go smaller is if you’re short of storage space for appliances.

    Having trouble finding a pre-diabetic diet I can cook. My doctor suggested a meal delivery service, so I signed up for Hello Fresh, which sent the first delivery Thursday evening. I procrastinated Friday, then yesterday I ground my teeth and opened the first bag and the first things that came out were a large onion and two huge poblano peppers, with instructions to slice them into very thin straps. Bitch, if I could do that I wouldn’t be paying you a fortune for these meals!

    Also I was unable to cancel getting the same meals on Saturday as they had told me I could, because Thursday is Thanksgiving and so my delivery will be on Tuesday instead and I would have to have canceled within the four hours I had on Thursday night after delivery. Good luck getting me to pay for them.

    @Mary G: 6 quart user here too – duo evo plus – cooking for one (often with multiple meals in mind). I believe that anything smaller that 6 quarts would have been too small for some of the recipes that I’ve cooked.

    WAUKESHA, Wis., Nov 21 (Reuters) – A speeding SUV plowed through a Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin, on Sunday, killing five people and injuring more than 40, including a group of young dancers waving pompoms.

    Waukesha Police Chief Dan Thompson said a person of interest was in custody and a vehicle had been recovered after the incident in the town, about 20 miles (32 km) west of Milwaukee.

    “At this time, we can confirm that 5 people are deceased and over 40 are injured,” the Waukesha Police Department said on its Facebook page. “However, these numbers may change as we collect additional information. Many people have self-transported to area hospitals.”

    @Mary G: there was a recall on onions in Hello Fresh and another meal delivery place due to concerns about salmonella. Also, the diabetic cooking – if you can, get a dietitian referral from your doctor. Even if you get only one session with a dietitian, you’ll learn a lot and probably be able to adjust your regular meals to meet your  needs.
