Fingers Crossed, Merging on Thursday Morning

Hey everybody,

If all goes as planned, merging of the 3 Balloon Juice iterations will be happening – sequentially – on Thursday 7/21.

When I wrote a little while ago to let the front-pagers know, there was a typo.  At least I hope that’s all it was!  I wrote:

“As such, I am making reparations for merging.”

That was supposed to be PREPARATIONS, and I dearly hope that there will be no need for reparations related to the merging of all the iterations of Balloon Juice we had after the fire.

We plan, god laughs.  That said, here’s the tentative plan.

First, I will define some terms.

20-year Balloon Juice – Jan 2002 – May 14, 2022

Jackal Action – Home Away from Home (from 5/20 – 5/29)

new-old Balloon Juice – 5/29 onward, just shy of 2 months

Tentative Plan  (insert “with any luck” in front of each item below!)

Our original Balloon Juice will be the mother ship.

First we will bring in our 16 days of Home Away from Home.  While that happens, we will all be happily commenting here.

If all goes well with the first mini-merge, sometime between 9 am and 10 am we will all lose access to new-old Balloon Juice, and we will not yet have access to any BJ iteration at all.  There will be no commenting anywhere Balloon Juice for what might be maybe an hour or two?  Or three or four.

When that commences, a message will appear on balloon-juice.com, instead of the website.  (Note to self, write calm, reassuring message.)

Then the merging of our last 2 months begins.  (imagine the cartoon with the ? on the blackboard “and then a miracle occurs”)

When the merging is done, John and I will have access and I will be (hopefully) verifying that all is well!

We then go live with the merged sites.

As I said, insert “with any luck” or “if all goes well” in front of each item on the list.

    fingers crossed that we get merged successfully prior to the J6. I am curious to witness how far the tendrils between white nationalist fascist domestic terrorism and the GOP actually are. Good wishes to Chairman Thompson for a complete recovery.

    Happily, I then remembered that tomorrow’s hearings are in prime time, by which time (Inshallah and alevei) the Compleat Balloon Juice will be working.

    That was my first thought, too!

    But the site hosts caught the blog father when he was doing 3 other things and he said “sure, Thursday is fine” without thinking to ask me (!!!) – you know, the person who is doing the preparations on our end and trying to make backups of Home Away from Home and our “new-old Balloon Juice” before the merger!

    Or without thinking about our Super Bowl Jan 6 Hearing which is on Thursday evening.

    Luckily, John is good at apologizing, and I am not a grudge holder, so all is forgiven.

    Idle question:  Should we expect the site to be dragged to its knees sluggish as Google crawls it again?  Or will their existing crawl automagically work?  (e.g. “site:install.local general stuck”).

    I want to be prepared with fresh FYWP rants.  I’ve learned here that one should always be pre-disappointed.  ;-)

    We have been watching old Mentalist episodes. I have to laugh. Their 20 year old flip phones look just like my current one. No butt dialing there or now. Good reception. No accidentally sending e-mails when you meant to text and vice versa.

    Hive mind: my airconditioner drain pipe is borked. Dripping in the basement. That isn’t a problem (basement has a drain) . Don’t want to bork the whole system by ignoring this. Last time ever I trust my construction connected husband to handle stuff. He “knew” people. I should have checked those pipes every time I changed a filter, but the men in my life didn’t want to trouble my tiny female brain.  URK. Checking homelife details is what women do, because men don’t seem capable of those small details.

    Small issue compared to what west coast went through last year, but 90+ this week. We have a a backup generator. And we missed this detail? Spouse sneered at annual checks.

    Men are mostly idiots. They expect us to defer, but they can barely get a properly cooked meal on the table.

    You really think that they are doing any of the stuff you can’t see better than their weekly taking out the garbage? ( with nagging.)

    My actor/writer/producer/singer cousin, Tom “Quiche” Kiesche, recorded this podcast interview with Animal Talk recently. He’s a long time volunteer, currently working with the North Central LA animal shelter. He walks dogs. Sounds simple… but what Tom does with and for the doggos (and the cats, and the bunnies…!) is pretty amazing. Have a listen and see if he doesn’t make you smile!
