Four Directions Nevada – Angel Match +

A Balloon Juice Angel stepped up today and offered a $1,000 match for Four Directions Nevada.  So we’re back to a 6x match up to $50 per person when you post a comment with your donation amount.

We are at $17,000, with $8,000 to go.

Or, to put it another way, when we include the double-match Four Directions found us, we are at $51,000, with $24,000 left raise for Nevada.

Since we have a new BJ Angel, everyone is eligible to be matched up to $50 per person, even if you have given previously.

Here’s where the + comes in.

UncleEb asked in the comments if there was some good information that would make it easy for him to share a link – about Four Directions fundraising for Nevada – on Facebook or Twitter.  So I put together a page (not a post, so it won’t have any comments) that you can easily share.

It includes a blurb from the Four Directions website, a short summary of what of how the Native vote they turned out for AZ in 2020 and in GA for the runoff was greater than the margin of victory.  I also mention the external double-match, which means that all donations are multiplied by 3.  And the thermometer, of course!

    In a few days I leave Denver on a mad quest to vote for Abrams and Warnock this Nov. I have nothing located or arranged, tho I know Ft. Gordon and Augusta from 1969. I am told the deadline to register is the Monday before five weeks before Nov 11, so early Oct. First I need a short-term lease as evidence of residence, could be anywhere in the state. Later I should look for something very cheap to buy out in the country. I have not slept in a house for six years, so when I say rustic that’s what I mean.

    WG, I hope you will clarify something, for me and possibly for others.

    With a match “up to $50,” it’s my understanding that if you give $25, the Angel will match $25. If you give $50, the Angel will match $50.

    If you give $200 in one chunk, the Angel will match only $50 of that  BUT, if you make four separate donations of $50 each, the Angel will match each one.

    Do I have that right? And if so, doesn’t it make sense for everyone, including the deeper-pocketed among us, to donate in smallish increments instead of larger sums whenever there’s an active Angel match?

    My dad went to the same high school as Paul Anderson in Toccoa.

    When I was a kid, dad would usually take us up to Amicalola Falls for picnics and such in the summer. Zooming around the curvy, hilly, country roads in his ’55 Chevy was one of the joys of his life. It took me a while to stop getting car-sick on the drive back home. ;-)

    @SiubhanDuinne: WaterGirl can confirm, but I believe the Angel matches $50 per individual.  If someone prefers to make four smaller donations rather than one larger one, they need to time it so a different Angel match is going on each time.

    @SiubhanDuinne:  You are absolutely correct in one sense.

    There are lots of ways to look at it, lots of ways to play it.

    You are correct in that if you know you have a certain amount to give – let’s use your $200 example –  your best bang for your buck would be to donate $50 for 4 different angel matches.

    Is there a guarantee that there will be 4 Balloon Juice angels?  No.

    Is there a guarantee that if there are 4 BJ angels, you will be around to donate while each of those matches is ongoing?  Not really, some of them go really fast.  (But others don’t.)

    Some people may reason that donating more than $50 up front helps the fundraising move more quickly, and it’s true that donations seem to engender more donations.  So raising the thermometer faster helps fundraising go better.

    Some folks with more discretionary money might prefer to donate more than $50 at once and leave more matching money for folks who have fewer dollars to give.  I know money was tight and I had $15 to give, I would most definitely want to have the 6x match money available.

    There are other ways to look at it, too, and other consideration, but you get the idea..

    @Dadadadadadada: As we were finishing up the $2,000 angel match… we were technically $150 short of $2,000 when I called it done – because I knew this would surely come of for at least a couple of people.

    So yes, you can consider that $50 as having a 6x match.  Now, if 3 more people come forward with the same situation, the last one is out of luck.

    I don’t want to do this on the respite thread above, but I think I’m gonna stroke out if I see one more “Biden SUCKS because he’s only cancelling $10K in debt! Why even bother!” tweet.

    If you don’t want $10K in cancellation, I’m pretty sure Joe can arrange that by just skipping this this whole exercise in dyspeptic, self absorbed politics. WTF is wrong with people?

    And yes. I do know that student debt is a terrible overhang and a serious problem. And that incrementalism is hard to swallow. But for fuck’s sake there isn’t a constituency right now that has the power to make him do more.

    FIX THAT. More organizing, less caterwauling.

    @RaflW: The complainers must not have seen the (well-supported) theory that incremental loan forgiveness will get a whole lot more done, with a whole lot less argle-bargle and pushback, than one big effort to do it all at once.

    The donation site isn’t working for me.  The donation buttons just come up as grey blinking rectangles on chrome, firefox and edge.  Anyone else able to access it this morning?
