End of Day 4
WaterGirl
To me it looks like Ranger is trying to photobomb the photo of Scout.

Lots of cocker spaniels today! I am taking the message in order of arrival, so that’s just random.
Ruckus, I cried when I saw the photo of Bud. I know how hard it was for you to give him up.
Rebelsdad (fka texasboyshaun)
@WaterGirl: I was thinking the same thing!
WaterGirl
@Rebelsdad (fka texasboyshaun): It’s the angle of his head and the top part of the body that makes it look like that to me.
UncleEbeneezer
Kemba is quite the dignified elder doggy :)

These pet pics are such a bright spot this week. Thank you, WaterGirl for doing this. And thanks to all the jackals who are sending pics of their favorite pets. So much love in these pics. ❤️
raven
I guess posting the picture of Bohdi and Raven was not the same as submitting it?
WaterGirl
@raven: Correct! It’s not too late to send me pics.
mrmoshpotato
Haha!
Butch
We came close to calling them Mischief and Mayhem, but that’s my pups Ranger and Scout. Thank you for posting that picture, WaterGirl!

@Butch:
Because they’re the best-behaved pups ever?

Is “Russian street dog “ a recognized breed?

The Amazing Rhythm Aces “I’m A Dog”
Butch
@mrmoshpotato: They are affectionate and energetic and stubborn and independent. We live on a farm; I’ll never forget the day they wandered out into the cornfield and found a really big mud puddle.
WaterGirl
@raven: Hard not to dance to that song!
beckya57
The second picture is from me, and the kitties are Rocky (grey half Maine Coon) and Scribbles (ginger Manx). I stupidly forgot to give @WaterGirl the info. They are best buds. I post pictures of them cuddling during Pride Month identifying them as “the gay couple that lives at my house” (they’re males).

@Scout211:
Enthusiastically seconded. Both the pet pics and the kudos to WaterGirl.
raven
@WaterGirl: I saw them at the Thunderbird Theater over by Krannert in the 70’s. They were an incredible band.

Amazing Rhythm Aces The End Is Not In Sight Live
WaterGirl
@beckya57: I’m not a monster. :-) I wrote to you, guessing that you were beckya and asking for the names of the kitties, hoping you would get back to me before the post went up
Updated now!
WaterGirl
@raven: This is a great song.
You’ve gotta have some balls to put the word Amazing in your name! :-)
The Amazing Subaru Diane could pull it off, though.
WaterGirl
@raven: That was a great place for music.

Thanks for these wonderful photos! They make me smile and laugh and cry, sometimes all at once.
I have to admit, I am not a Xmas person. This time of year is usually my most depressed time. I feel that a lot of the warm and fuzzy feelings are forced on people by Madison Ave and Hallmark. Sometimes I feel that because I’m single with no kids (plenty of nieces and nephews and grands of the former. I love them all!) I’m a non person, at this time of the year.
I am a big fan of Chinese food on Xmas Day.
I’m not against people enjoying this time of year. Please, enjoy all you can. Just remember all people don’t idealize it and choose not to participate.
These pet photo posts keep me smiling. Keep up the good work, WG!

I love looking at all the jackals pets. They are each perfection.

@Anotherlurker: I worked with a woman who always said “Christmas is a season, not an obligation.”
It doesn’t always feel like that, though, does it?
Anyway, I thought some pet pics might just help slow things down, for a few minutes anyway, long enough for us to all catch our breath.
Anotherlurker
@WaterGirl: You do wonderful work for all your Jackels! I can’t thank you enough!
I live in the Bay Area now so family gatherings are very rare for me. My family are all on L.I.
I’m currently housesitting/dogsitting for my friends while they are visiting family back East. My charges are Jack, Lucy and Ollie. Jack and Lucy are littermates, born June 12. Puppy Madness is a hoot and, for me, it brings me out of myself .

Ah Bud. 🌈
Hugs for all. Thank you for sharing.

@Shana: yeah I’m wondering if Jess adopted the dog. Moscow is full of street dogs. They’re heartbreaking.
The Moar You Know
Ruckus, I have some pictures of the last day with my wife’s dog. I find them absolutely heartbreaking to look at to this day. It’s been nine years.

@WaterGirl: yeah. i really like the pet threads.
also just sent you two better pictures of our fur-babies (you know, with them facing the camera.)
these are just wonderful respite threads, and i dig them.
thanks for all your work and i hope you have a great holiday season.

Since this is a pet thread – I just wanted folks to know that we lost our dear Trixie yesterday. Her mom had left 3 hours before to go to India and she gave me her dog. (we adopted it together years back) She faded quickly – and even my ex-wife knew that there was a possibility she won’t survive prior – there was a incident the day before. Pup died in my arms just around the time my ex-wife’s plane had wheels off the run way. She died on winter solstice – time of renewal. So if there was a good day to cross the rainbow bridge – what better time than Solstice?
She called me today, heartbroken – she isn’t sad that she passed on, it was her time, but that she couldn’t hold her one last time. She was diagnosed with heart disease and through her own formulated organic dog food – she lived 3 years past what the vet said she could. She was a very good girl. She’s been in every Balloon-Juice calendar including this year.
RIP Trixie – the sweetest Pom/Chihuahua mix you could ever meet. A happy dancing dog that had a big mischievous side. A small dog with a big personality. :)
I never had a pet die personally, my last cat died in the kennel in her sleep. I never got to hold her till after she died. I guess the universe gave me an opportunity to do jus that.
Tinare
Adorbs all.

@cain: Sincere condolences and thank you for the sweet remembrance of Trixie.

@Anotherlurker:
I’m envious. (And of Bay Area weather too right now.)
mrmoshpotato
@cain: My condolences, cain.
WaterGirl
@cain: Sad for all of you and for Trixie. Sounds like Trixie had a good run, but it’s still too soon. It’s always too soon.
eddie blake
@cain: i’m sorry, that’s rough. my condolences.
Jess
@Shana: The official Embark term is “Eastern European Village Dog.” They’re the original landrace dog, the link between wolves and breed dogs. The “base model” dog, if you will! More like coyotes than fully domesticated dogs.
Jess
@zhena gogolia: Yes, I did adopt Cody from Russia. They’re okay living on the street, as far as I can tell from the sources I’ve found; in Moscow, they’ve even learned to use the subway system to commute in from the suburbs to beg for food in the city. They’re well adapted to the life. What sucks for them is that the government will make periodic sweeps and dump them into doggie “gulags” that are just miserable and very stressful.
Cody was in one of these. The rescue group that pulls the more adoptable dogs out (i.e. puppies) was not going to take him initially, but he jumped into their car of his own volition and basically demanded to be rescued. I found him on Petfinder about 1.5 years ago, the day my previous dog died of cancer, and decided to go for it even though I wasn’t quite ready for another dog so soon. But Cody was just my dog. I could tell. We had to do a lot of work together to help him get over the all the traumatic changes in his life, and to teach him to be a pet, but he’s super smart, determined, and basically a loving soul, and he’s become a happy and delightful companion. We did a coast-to-coast road trip together last May that really cemented the bond and brought him out of his shell.
Jess
I’m totally enjoying all these wonderful pets! This series is making me very happy. So much love…
WaterGirl
@Jess: I love a story with a happy ending.

Della looks so sweet!

I love how Baby Cat and your Lucy are color coordinated.

I am putting pics in posts based on when they arrived, so not to worry if you haven’t seen your pics yet. If it helps give you an idea of when to look for your guys, It looks like the beginning of the Tuesday email pics will go up on Day 7.

Thanks everyone for the condolences. It was her time. It’s sad but we move on and keep these creatures in our heart. They live on in our memories.
Also passing on Winter Solstice – like a boss. On a day of renewal.
Jess
@WaterGirl: :-)
Me too. I’m so glad I’m able to give him a joyful life. Made a difference for one dog, at least…
