I ran across this the other day, and attention plant people, you are not allowed to buy plants online anywhere other than Botany Tropicals. This is why:
I think these may be the last true souls on planet earth, and they are here in West by God Virginia, and they must be protected at all cost. Every time I watch this video I smile because they are just so kind.
Here is there website again.
Jay
Thank you John.

I love them! Their enthusiasm for their plants and people is heartwarming.
moonbat
OMG, they are adorable! I’m now looking for an open space on the sill so I can buy a plant from them.

OMG I need Plant 911 so badly! Our (possibly) 100-year-old lilac’s leaves have turned brown and are falling off and it’s too early in the year. I have to find out if something weird is going on.
ETA: All my other disasters are from neglect, natch.

Also check out their greeting cards. I love that they’re from the Homo Card Co. Great name.

Oh they are so sweet!!!! Bookmarked

They are adorable! Where in WV is Hinton located? (Off to ask the ever-helpful Mister Google.)
Kristine
I sub’d to their newsletter!

@SiubhanDuinne: Southern West Virginia. The accents take me right back…
Alison Rose
John, how come you don’t have that adorable accent?
I love these darlings and I want nothing but good things for them always. Definitely gonna order something, although even they could not turn me into someone who does not kill a plant within weeks of bringing it into my home. I have the blackest of black thumbs. But that’s okay because I am 99% sure my cat would either knock it over, eat it, pee in it, or all three.

The plant my colleagues sent me after my mother’s death 6 years ago lasted all this time. It was my first indoor plant, which my mom would have loved since she grew things in and out of doors. But this week it succumbed very quickly to some kind of fungal condition, and I need to replace it since Plant 911 is not yet operational and this one is, no doubt about it, a goner. Now I know where I’m going to find the new one. Thanks, JC.

Pillars of the community. My little town wouldn’t be worth living in if not for the gay bakers, makers, community volunteers, activists,?stylists, real estate agents, shop owners and photojournalists— but our state reps and congresscritter wage endless psycho-vangelical war on The Ghey Menace. It makes me boil.

Love this. I have been looking for succulents and these guys have some amazing ones.
Kristine
Nominated. If I can manage it on my phone.

Awww. I love the “No Hate In My Holler” shirt!

They’re adorable and have some things I want to order, as soon as I get my monthly “moochers on the government teat” deposit.
In the meantime, after disappearing during the last two heatwave days, latest porch kitty and presumed Bitchleen sibling was captured this morning and is safely ensconced in the isolation bedroom, awaiting transport for a neuter tomorrow. Girl kitty is out of heat and back to acting like a feral nutcase, so once I capture her from under the furniture in the same room and she goes to be spayed, we’re going to try a different foster to expose her to other people. If she never comes out of her shell she may be unadoptable and she’ll come back to me, because she wouldn’t survive as a barn cat or released as a true feral. Everyone light a candle she decides other people are cool.

Bought their last two “Your cornbread ain’t quite done in the middle” cards. I cannot wait to send them!
Thank you, John. That made my morning.

I heard about another West Virginia plant operation; this one grows Chinquapin trees for sale. These small nut trees were well known to country folk growing up in central Virginia but are now scarce. I don’t know the grower’s name, but he lives not too far from Monterey, Virginia where he sells his trees at the biannual Maple Syrup Festivals. A friend plans to buy a few there this Fall.

Sending this link to my gay uncles in the DC area, tout de suite. They know a shite-ton of people, and are very supportive of small businesses esp those of the homo variety. Both uncles had trouble in the early times (pre-AIDS) holding down jobs with corporate ‘Merica (like “You’re fired because so and so told us you’re gay, buh-bye”), and so went out on their own and have developed a business savvy that has them sitting pretty now.

OMG, they are adorable. I love that they have a “metaphysical section” in their plant store! And that they serve as a community meeting space! Even tho’ I have a grey thumb I may just have to dial up their website and look through it for “hardest to kill houseplants!”
currawong
Well, they look awesome.

@frosty: I’m in WMass & a neighbor just had to cut down his decades old Lilac because of a disease of some sort (long covid brain forgetfulness as to what it was). Our two also suddenly look bad so I’m hoping it’s just the incredibly nasty summer weather we’ve had. I did find this link that might help

@john – thank you for the link! They are delightful & I’ll order a plant or several when we get back from vacation
