Paul Constant reminds us that Repubican primaries are still, technically, happening:
This is as good a place as any to officially announce that we will not be live-Slogging the primaries tonight. Even if Gingrich were to win Delaware—which I doubt, but I suppose it could happen—nothing would change. If there’s any news at all about the primary, I’ll be sure to post it here on Slog, but Romney winning all the states in tonight’s Republican primary is the opposite of news.
Apart from the warm glow of schadenfreude, what’s on the agenda for the evening?

I’m reading some excerpts from Romney speech tonight and I’m already pissed at how easy the media will make it for R-Money and the R-Money millionaires to “pivot” to the center.
I’m glad the the Obama campaign stategy will include holding R-Money in the corner he boxed himself in during the primary.

If you are looking for your first dSLR, the T3 is a worthy candidate that will offer you superior performance and image quality compared to your point-n-shoot, along with a broad range of exposure options that will help you further your photography skills. With a MSRP of just $599.99 US for the EOS Rebel T3 and EF-S 18-55mm IS II kit lens, the T3 is hard to beat in your are looking for an extremely affordable dSLR. Tip for those thinking of buying a DSLR: Consider picking up a 50/1.8 lens as well. They’re cheap, especially if you buy them used, and they’re a great way of getting that nice “subject in focus, background blurred out” look. Good for portraits and stuff like that.

Yeah, Adobe can really get you on an upgrade treadmill; if you get a camera that’s substantially newer than your version of Photoshop, you will probably have to upgrade PS to get raw conversion to work. You might want to try an open source RAW converter like RawTherapee as an alternative. The workflow isn’t necessarily as nice, since you have to export from RawTherapee and then load into Photoshop, but it should work.

Also, too, re: camera selection, best not to get too fixated on specs. Pretty much any camera one can buy these days will be perfectly capable from a technical standpoint; lots of megapixels, good high-ISO sensitivity, fine video capability, etc. The important thing from the point of view of the user is the ergonomics. How does the thing sit in your hand? Does the weight and balance feel right to you? Can you easily reach the important controls like the shutter trigger and whatever control wheels are there?
Go down to a Best Buy or whatever, and spend a few minutes handling the models that you are thinking about. Make sure that they’re comfortable to hold and manipulate.

“The book, a fascinating amalgam of seafaring adventure, personal philosophy, and marine biology, recounts in journal form Steinbeck’s specimen-collecting voyage on a sardine boat around the Baja Peninsula into the Gulf of California (once upon a time called the Sea of Cortez). He was accompanied on this expedition by, among others, Edward Ricketts, the model for Doc, the beer- and women- loving, conformity-hating marine biologist in Steinbeck’s Cannery Row and Sweet Thursday. It is Ricketts’s original journal that forms the basis of much of Sea of Cortez. “

Funny story about Cannery Row. My son, in 7th or 8th grade at the time, was into Steinbeck after reading Of Mice and Men. He was discussing the book report he was writing with me and I said something about the women working at Dora’s being hookers. He got this look of horror and said, “They were? Yes, it does. The largest (spring) tides are at the full and new moon and the weakest (neap) are at the first and third quarters. That’s because at the full and new moon, the lunar and solar components of the tide add constructively, while at the quarters they add destructively.
