From commentor IrishGirrrl:
I have fallen on hard times and am having to move from a very large house to a tiny apartment. I cannot take my cat, Dusty with me and I feel absolutely horrible about it. I have been looking for someone to adopt her for weeks but have had no luck. I am moving next Sunday and am running out of time…
Dusty is a spayed and declawed approximately 12 year old cat who I originally adopted from The Humane Society about 6 years ago. She has had some dental problems and has had teeth removed but she can still eat dry food just fine. She has a touch of arthritis in her hips but overall is pretty healthy. She is not up on her shots since I have been lucky to feed myself and my kids, much less afford vet bills. I would be happy to give whoever adopts her some money towards initial vet bills. I probably should have taken her back to the Humane Society when I could no longer afford the vet, but I was so worried that no one would adopt her and they would euthanize her.
Dusty is a very sweet and vocal cat. Her hair is medium length, gray, white and brown striped, and she appears to be a mixture of breeds with some oriental because she has blue eyes and vocalizes so much. She has been known to say “Mama” when looking for me. While extremely affectionate she is not fond of small children as they are too rough for her tastes. She is okay around other cats but tends to want to be dominate kitty with respect to male cats. Female kitties she basically ignores or occasionally communes with, but she is all about her human. I don’t know how she might behave around dogs. She would make an awesome companion for a couple or an older person. She will love you silly. It breaks my heart to have to give her away but she deserves so much better than she is getting now and would get if taken back to the Humane Society.
I am willing to drive as far south as Tucson or as far north as Flagstaff to deliver her to a new home.
If anybody can offer help — perhaps a local no-kill group that might have a space for Dusty? — and you don’t want to put personal information here, send me an email at AnneLaurie @ verizon.net (click on my name to the right).

What a beautiful kitty! I hope we can find her a nice home.
[and that is a nice thought, eric.]

@eric: I don’t have a lot of money, but I could chip in $25 towards initial bills as well; I will email Anne Laurie too. I have my hands full with the two cats I already have and don’t live near Phoenix or even in Arizona, but I wish I could do more than that.
IrishGirrrl, my heart is breaking for you as I hear yours breaking for losing your beloved pet. Dusty looks like a sweetheart and I hope you can find her the home she deserves.

If she wants to be chased a lot, we could introduce her to our 2 greyhounds….

if there is a way i can help you keep the kitty please let me know

I passed it on to Renato, he’s a AZ guy. He said he’ll do his best.

I’ve been donating to Arizona RESCUE as my mom’s Christmas gift for the last couple of years. I don’t think they have actual shelter space right now, but they may be able to help matchmake.
My parents are getting ready to snowbird back to Illinois in the next few weeks, or else I’d try to sell my mom on taking her. :-(

I live far away, and my dogs don’t do cats, but I’ll chip in some bucks if it will help.

Hello,
Lovely cat. I have three myself. I live in San Diego and probably cannot have a fourth cat, but I can help with some expenses if needed. Please let me know. God bless.

I’m in S. NV, with 3 really really territorial cats (from one litter), and a hyper Pomeranian. Probably not a good fit, but I will gladly help with any transport or other costs.

I’m so sorry you are having to make this heartbreaking decision. I am unable to help except with $$ – I would like to know if Ruckus has had any luck with finding a home for his dog as well – I would like to see BJ start up a fundraiser for him and for you for those of us who cannot adopt but want to help in some other way.
She looks so sweet and playful, just like mine. I just want to cry.
I wish you the best of luck in finding a good home for her and I hope we can contribute in some way to some of the costs.
Okay, I have to go to another thread or I will cry. I will be checking to see if we start a fundraiser of some kind. So many good people need help these days and we must try to help each other if we can.

@the fugitive uterus: That is such an excellent idea, and I’m in with that.
I’ve found if you call the shelters, they might not have room, but they might have leads; people who have stated they want an older lovebug, for instance.

Also, too, don’t forget that a lot of shelters (including the Humane Society) have “Seniors for Seniors” programs now — you can call them and see if they have anyone waiting for a senior kitty. It’s a long shot, but it’s a possibility.

What about Best Friends, in UT?

A friend of mine is currently on a road trip from Seattle to take two kittens with front leg deformities to Best Friends in Kenab, UT.
I’m not sure if this link will work without Facebook access: Kanga and Roo.

@eric: Thank you so much for the thought but I just can’t because of the place I have signed a lease with.

I am in the Ca Sierras, no way I can Help, but I so feel your pain. I will love my kitties all the more for your loss. Great Luck ahead.

suzanne, who posts here, is in Phoenix. Maybe she has some contacts. Good luck. It must be so sad to have to leave your kitty.
Rome Again
IrishGirl, Thymezone and I are in Phoenix. We’ve got one cat already and are expecting to add another cat soon (she currently lives with his ex), but let me talk to TZ and see if he can figure out something or someone who can help. Good luck if we can’t do anything, but I’m going to try.
Rome Again
We are going to discuss it in the morning after I get off work. We are considering taking her. I’ll keep you posted.
Oh, and if we do take her, you can schedule times to come see her. I would like to help with keeping her connection to you in some form. I always worry that something may happen to me one day and I fear that my cat would be devastated. I don’t want to see that happen to her.

What a cute girl. Hope someone out there can take her on.

Just an update…the Humane Society said she’s too old and wouldn’t be put up for adoption (i.e., they would euthanize her) which made me start crying and I am at work! Lady said the Senior for Seniors program was more on the Adoption side of things (although if they don’t take older animals, not sure how there would be any senior animals to adopt). Then lady said that I probably wouldn’t have any luck with the private no-kill shelters because they work directly with other orgs. Told me to rely on family and friends. My family is very far away and never to be relied on and my friends are all online. This sucks so bad.
IrishGirl
@Rome Again: OMG, just read this! Thank you so much for even considering it. I will keep calling the no-kill shelters recommended until and unless I hear from you.
Rome Again
IrishGirl, just updating you. Thymezone just woke up (we keep weird hours) and we haven’t discussed it yet, but we will after he is more awake.
I hope we can work this out. I’ll check back in a while.
Rome Again
IrishGirl, Thymezone and I have decided we’re going to take Dusty. We’re going to need to figure out how to contact each other offline. I’m offering permission here for one of the admins to forward my email address to you. If that doesn’t work, I’ll contact one of them and see if we can figure out how to exchange personal information. I have John Cole on my Facebook. I’ll send him a message also. :)
IrishGirl
@Rome Again: Thank you so much…I am so relieved. Crying tears of happiness in my cubicle. Anne Laurie has my personal email address too. I just can’t thank you enough.
Rome Again
I’ve emailed AnneLaurie with my address and permission to send it to you. :)

You’re welcome. :) Looking forward to having her with us.

Rome Again sainthood for you and your partner.
This news made me so very happy. Needed happy news today.
Irish Girl, may your new life be full of blessings. May new opportunities abound.

I love happy endings. :) Hats off to Rome Again and Thymezone!
Rome Again
That’s so sweet. Thanks. We just felt that this cat was close by and needed a home and I really think Dusty will be good for Stormy (my cat – according to the personality notes, they seem to be very similar in temperament. :)
Thymezone
Meow.
Add: My last all-mine cat was mine from age 4 months until age 20. Beebs from Thebes, Cat Extraordinaire was her name. I tend to get attached to them.
Rome Again
She’s a beautiful cat. We are very happy to have her with us. :) Thank you IrishGirl. Please feel free to keep in touch with me if you would like to arrange a visit in a few weeks time. Okay? :)
